The IHA was considering names in July? Names of previous emperors? That seems to suggest foreknowledge of a boy. Hmmm...

I hope that little Hisahito has a long life, and that Akishino and Kiko's wishes are respected and he is able to live a carefree and less restricted life, but that's probably not going to happen :[

Well, they could have looked at names for a possible boy...

But! As for the talk about hte father choosing, one article said that the father was given a list of three names to choose from. Isn't that really kind of the IHA? But I think its a nice name.. Hopefuly, he can bring peace to that family...

Something tells me that this child won't be living freely and easily if recent history is any guide.

No surprise there, of course. However, it could just be that they were choosing names for a boy in the event that it was a boy whereas if it had been another mere girl it would have been a personal decision of the parents. Wonder what the Kanji for "another bitter disappointment" looks like.

Aiko looks happy and healthy in all her pictures. She can actually live a full life.
At first i was so disappointed that PKiko had given birth to a baby boy, but i've had a few weeks to think it over and i agree with you. The pressure is now of PM & PAiko can hopefully have a normal life.

For those of you who have been saying that the pregnancy may possibly have been orchestrated by the IHA - well i agree. I wouldn't put it pass them. I also agree with those of you who are saying that this situation may crop up again in the future. They really need to look at their constitution and change it.

It would be awful for another princess to go thru what PMasako did.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PKIKO AND HER NEW SON

I don't envy him at all - he will be a 'puppet' in the hands of the IHA - what a future life eh? Maybe PAiko has had a luck escape!!!

My congratulations to the Imperial Family, especially to Princess Kiko, and may Prince Hisahito be healthy!

IVF-PGD-ET or no such alphabet soup, he is a most welcome addition into the most ancient Imperial House on Earth. :)

I don't think it will happen again. After what happened with Masako, I doubt any woman will want to do the same thing, ever. I'm all pro male primogeniture, but only having female heirs is still better than pushing yet another princess into depression. It's okay with female monarchs, but male still should stand before female in the order of succession.

Congratulations, Japan, for your prince Hisahito!

I saw a video at youtube called "Akishino's Family Sixteen Years Special video". =

The video is in three parts and approximately 5 minutes each.

I have posted an inquiry at youtube for information on how I could get a copy of the video myself. In the meantime I thought I would try here at the forum to see if anyone has information on this video and how to acquire a copy.

Thank you for your help.

Congratulations to Japan and the Imperial Family for the newborn Prince Hisahito. I was a litle bit upset that the baby is boy. But then I think if this is the best for them, why should we go againts it? Maybe I don't really understand about the Japan's constitution but I just hope that CP Naruhito's family, Prince Akishino's family, and all of the IF will live a better and happier life now on. though personally I'd like to see Princess Aiko to be an Empress, I also want her to have a happy and normal life without any pressures on her shoulder. So whoever the next heir, I hope he/she will be a great leader that will lead the IF and Japan's people to live their live in peace and harmony, and whatever happened to CP's family (esp. Princess Aiko) I will still love and support them.

New prince not end to succession crisis--Japan palace chief
Japan's imperial palace chief has warned that last week's birth of the first male heir to the Chrysanthemum Throne in four decades still does not resolve
the imperial family's looming succession crisis, an official said Wednesday....Imperial Household Agency Grand Steward Shingo Haketa said the royal family's future is still shaky.
"Even though the prince is born, that does not take away the problem over the stability of imperial succession," he was quoted as saying by Imperial Household Agency spokesman Yasuo Moriyama on Wednesday....

Prince named Hisahito in hopes of calm, long life
...Fumihito and Kiko took care to choose a character that had not been used in the imperial family before, and spent the summer considering several possible names--both for a girl and a boy.
The couple sought advice from the emperor and empress as well as scholars of Japanese and Chinese literature before coming to a decision the day before the actual naming ceremony, according to the agency....

TV Timer: Shows tie catfish to birth of prince
...But much of the TV coverage showed joy around the nation, including dances, cheers, people parading with lit paper lanterns, and children hoisting carp streamers to celebrate the birth.

Speaking of fish, a restaurant that serves catfish and an aquarium were also featured on the programs. Prince Fumihito and Princess Kiko had visited those two places for dates before their marriage. Fumihito is known for his interest in catfish and now has an academic interest in poultry. Anything associated with the family of the new prince was aired, including the type of teddy bear once cherished by Princess Mako, one of the new prince's two sisters. The teddy bear is being resold with a baby cap and a bib to mark the birth of the baby boy....

Prince Hisahito will be leaving the hospital on Sept. 15, 2006.

Actually, the only thing you can do is contact the person, who posted these clips on Youtube, and ask him or her to send them to you. The easiest thing to do is to save those clips as favorites at Youtube and watch them whenever you want on the internet.

Again, I'm new to the Japanese imperial family, so I don't get it. Why is Prince Akishino sometimes called Fumihito? Does he have two names?

I still don't understand. Is Akishino his informal name and Fumihito his formal name?

When he was born back in 1965, he received the name of Fumihito and a parsonal title to be used when he was young which is Aya no miya.
This parsonal title is only received by children of a crown prince or the Emperor.
Aya no miya acts sort of like his last name.
for eg. when he attended school his full name would be Aya no miya Fumihito with the Japanese tradition of last names being placed before the first
When he got married with Kiko and establihed his own family, the Emperor granted them a new family branch name Akishino no miya.
This family branch name would then sort of act like his last name.
His full name after marriage would be Akishino no miya Fumihito or in english Prince Fumihito of Akishino. Since he is the head of the family, he is usually called Prince Akishino. We can also call Kiko, Princess Akishino because she is the female head of the family, and she also belongs in that family branch. Her full name would then be Princess Kiko of Akishino.

Little prince has a nice name Hisahito-virtuous, I like its meaning. Good luck to a little one. I can't wait to see his pictures. Any news when we can expect first pics?

So the title 'Prince Akishino' is sort of like when the children of British monarchs get titles, for example, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, who is Duke of York. And their children use the 'Akishino' as part of their title, just like Beatrice and Eugenie. So Mako, Kako and Hisahito of Akishino and then Beatrice and Eugenie of York. Is that about right?

Yeah, Morhange, I think so. Thanks for explaining that, Mandyy! Now I finally get why the prince is both called Fumihito and Akishino. Fumihito is his actual first name, and Akishino is more like a title.

Congratulations, Japan, for your prince Hisahito!
I'm not specially pro-male nor pro-female succesion. I think we must be respectuous of other countries laws. I was qite clear about it in other posts: if Japanese people wants to change the succesory laws returninb back to ancient laws allowing females to rule, that's good. If they doesn't want it, that's good too. It's not our bussiness.

It was okay the world like it was, with excellent Queens and Empress like Queen Elizabeth I of England, Queen Vctoria of Great Britain,Queen Isabel I of Spain,Empress Catherine of Russia and so on...but I also like Kings and Emperors! The thing that puts me over my nerves is the hyper-feminism that is getting al us a little hysterical. If there are people who things that men are better than women (false!) there are others who things the opposite: women are better than men (fake too!). It's also noticeable that many people today (most vengative women) wanted that royal wifes should overshadow their husband..but they become furious if husbands overshadows wifes! Life is a path to walk in couple. Men are useless without women; women are useles without men.For we are sons and daughters, for we are fathers and mothers, for we were created different and partners by God.

Well, by the way: WELCOME, PRINCE HISAHITO!!!

Vanesa.
