On February 16th, Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko, and Princess Mako attended a special preview of Life Goes On. The movie follows the lives of people from Miyagi Prefecture and was filmed for 10 months beginning in July 2016. The trio also spoke to the cast; Prince Akishino understood the flow over 10 months well and Princess Mako wished to visit the park in Ishinomaki that was featured in the movie. Life Goes On will be released across Japan on March 3rd.

On February 26th, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko attended the send off ceremony for the Japanese team to the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic Games. Including 38 athletes, Team Japan totals 86 people.

On April 11th, Princess Kiko attended the 50th Imperial Gift Foundation Boshi-Aiiku-Kai convention at Meiji Memorial Hall in Minato, Tokyo. 500 people attended the event. Princess Kiko has been President of Boshi-Aiiku-Kai since October 2010; she visited Okayama Prefecture to review activities of the prefecture's members last November.

Princess Kiko will visit the Netherlands in October to attend the 49th Union World Conference on Lung Health. It will be her first solo visit aboard. She has been president of the Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association for over 20 years.

On May 9th, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko visited the Shinjuku Kodomo En nursery school in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The visit marks Children's Day (May 5) in Japan. The couple interacted with 4-5 year olds' making animals from cardboard; Princess Kiko participated in a folk dance.

Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko will attend the "Meiji Restoration 150th Anniversary" ceremony in Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture on May 25th. They will also visit the prefectural museum. The couple last visited Kagoshima 21 years ago.

Prince Akishino will visit Kagoshima earlier, May 17-18, to attend the general meeting of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums. He will also visit Senganen Garden.

On May 12th, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko attended the Midori Thankgiving ceremony at Iino Hall in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Before the ceremony, they met winners of the Midori Cultural awards for their contribution to nature and environmental activities. April 15 - May 14 is Midori month.

The Akishino couple will visit Hawaii June 4-9 for the 150th anniversary of Japanese migration and other events.
