TOKYO — Prince Akishino and his
wife Princess Kiko on Tuesday will host an annual duck hunting event in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture, for ambassadors and their wives from eight countries including Belgium, Cuba and Botswana.The Imperial Household Agency decided, however, to forgo the ceremonial releasing of ducks into the air out of consideration for bird flu, which can spread among poultry and wild birds. The event is held every year during the duck-hunting season between November and February, often with such guests as lawmakers and Supreme Court justices, in addition to ambassadors...

Bird flu fears marred a traditional duck hunt hosted by a Japanese prince, with authorities cancelling part of the ceremony at which guests were to release ducks into the air.
