I am not sure how I feel about the Princess's hair...it looks a bit dry and damaged. But someone did a bang up job on her makeup..she looks great!

As posted by Catherine on the Benelux Royals MB:

princess Astrid quits her job as chairwoman of Red Cross Belgium.

The princess's mandate ends 31st December 2007 and court has announced she will not be a candidate for the next term.

She will continue to support the projects and organisations she already got engaged in. She will also continue to support the Red Cross, but she's also intrested in new initiatives of other organisations who make efforts for humanitarian purposes in Belgium and abroad.

The princess has expressed her gatitude towards the 25,000 volunteers of the RC in Belgium: "Their continuous voluntary work has always been a source of inspiration and encouragement to me."

In March 2007 it became clear that there were disputes and tensions between the Flemish and the Walloon wing of the RC. Astrid is the national chairwoman. She's in favour of a unified RC, while both wings want more autonomy.

Astrid was chairwoman of the RC since 1994.

Because of the increased tensions between the Flemish and Walloon side of the RC, it had become impossible for Astrid to have a real input in the organisation: each word she said was being scrutinized by both sides to see if she didn't favour the other.

Beginning November 2007 Astrid sent a letter with 3 questions, adding that if there woudn't be an agreement on both sides, she could no longer be chairwoman of the organisation:
1. In which measure has an agreement been reached on the new structure of the red cross?
2. What's the role of the federal belgian organ?
3. Are there enough garantees for financial transparancy?

The princess found the Flemish and the Walloon answers to be too far apart. That's why she anounced yesterday she will not be a candidate for the next mandate (of 4 years).

And from Expatica:

Princess Astrid to quit Red Cross

The Royal Palace has announced that Princess Astrid will not be standing for a new term as Chairwoman of the Belgian Red Cross.

I agree. Her hair does look dry. I do like the color and style though. I think she usually looks elegant.

The princess is beginning to resemble her mother Paola, which isn't altogether a bad thing as they are both beautiful woman but I really think she should of reconsidered that coat she was wearing.

18 april 2008, Princess Astrid visited the city of Koksijde, in West Flanders.

A picture from the local newspaper here.

Before the visit there was some controversy about a statue of Delphine Boël that was taken away by the city for this visit. The court denied that they requested the city to take the statue away btw.

The princess visited Koksijde because the Queen Elisabeth Institute (KEI) celebrated its 50th anniversairy with a meeting in the local casino.

I think she looks very pretty and much younger then picture I saw last year. Whoever is doing her hair and make-up have done a great job. She does look a lot like her mother.
Are there any picture of her and Prince Lorenz from their marriage or early years?

Well, that certainly is a ' creative' necklace ;). The Princess looks cheerful though, as usual.
