The foundation of Prince Laurent, Global Sustainable Development Trust, is rewarded 38 million Euro in damages, to be paid by the Government of Libya.

In 2008 the Libyan Government engaged the Trust of Prince Laurent for an ambitious project of re-foresting barren land between the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi and Al Baida, to stop the spread of the desert. The Trust hired a lot of engineers, specialists and local workforce to prepare the immense project. In 2010 however, the Libyans unilaterally ended the project, leaving their Belgian partners with big losses.

The Trust of Prince Laurent started a juridical procedure and, after earlier lawsuits, now the Civic Tribunal of the Brussels Court of Justice has -in appeal- definitively set the damages on 38 million Euro.

Earlier this month, prince Laurent and his family were in Lourdes as volunteers. 'my children have too know that there are people around who have difficulties in their lives, that some are suffering and some are in need'.

The family was accompanied by father Gilbert, the 'rock priest' who married L&C and who Princess Astrid asked to come from France when the prince was in the hospital.

I really think they are right to show their children another side to life.....

The prince is apparently using part of his dotation that is meant to cover work costs for his personal expenses.

Het Nieuwsblad mentions that the prince is in collision course with the palace: the king distances himself from Laurent and thinks this is the personal responsibility of the prince. Laurent at his turn is livid at the palace.

The NVA wants the dotations to Astrid and Laurent to stop within 5 years.

Things seemed to have settled down with Laurent for a while. I knew it was too good to last:sad:.

Laurent wants to be a kept man for life and doesn't save money or work on anything of note that can bring income to his family smh.

I doubt Philippe will let him or his family starve but he really needs to get his stuff together, can't behave like a teenager when he's a middle aged man.

Laurent thinks that because he was the King's son and now his brother should not do anything else in his life and that the state or the family should live it. Very immature.

Prince Laurent did the most stupid thing you can imagine.

This is new ,King Albert II , Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent has to give to the "Cour des Comptes/Hofrekening) the amount they put from their Dotation.
King Albert II , Princess Astrid did it correcly but Prince Laurent mixed amoung his dotations coasts, private coasts such as food , school coast etc....

This is a childish behaviour , he should at least ask help from the Royal Palace or pay a competent comptable.

Now he is ill. But the consequences will be heavy ! Again a gift for the anti-monarchits

Well he does it again! I knew this prolonged period of no news from Laurent was too good to be true.

At the end of the day, surely this is fraud? Claiming as expenses the family's private outgoings? Its a bit similar to the scandal engulfing Infanta Cristina of Spain.

I feel so sorry for the rest of the RF that time and time again Laurent has to ruin things, I feel especially sorry for Astrid as she seems to do the right thing all the time but her brother goes and ruins things meaning her own allowance has been called into question again.

If the dotations are stopped, does it mean that Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant, is expected to pick up the slack? The Belgian government is parsimonious. Prime Minister should have streamlined the royal family in the Spanish way.

I would say that the younger siblings themselves will expected to get a job. Jut as Astrid's children are doing. Astrid an Laurent are for now the only European royal siblings that receive a dotation. I am sure that the court will find some sort of arrangement with the younger children of the king, as is done in all other courts.

In the mean time it seems that the Belgians are getting tired of Laurents antics. He used to be fairly popular, despite the dramas. Even last year he was the 3r most popular member of the RF (after Mathilde and Albert). But the financial mess seemed to have changed things. In a poll conducted on Flemish people he only scored a 4.4 out of 10.

Bart de Wever, leader of the Flemish seperatist party, called the prince 'a tragic figure'. He says that the prince has to improve his role as a prince.

When King Baudouin died (1993) the then Prime Minister Mr Jean Luc De Haene, said he had to refuse King Albert II's request to give a dotation for Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent.

And no surprise where the Sunday to the celebrations for the King's Day Laurent be absent.

I am not sure. On November 15th
King Albert II, Queen Paola, Princess Astrid , Prince Lorenz, Prince Laurent and Princess Claire have to attend both Events at the Cathedral and at the Parlement.
