I think if a girl Victoria will incorporate her mothers name, if a boy, her father's name, and part of Daniels name.

Daniel´s sister is now called Anna Westling Söderström, she got re-married last August. According to Daniel´s biography at the royal court website his parents are Ewa Kristina Westling och Olle Gunnar Westling.
H.K.H. Prins Daniel - Sveriges Kungahus [NS4 version]
Another thing the royal court website got wrong :whistling:, his mother's full name is Anna Kristina EVA Westling, née Westring.

Christina or Carl Oscar/Carl Johan.
And I'd be extremely surprised if CP Frederik of Denmark and CP Haakon of Norway wasn't amongst the godparents.

CP Frederik
CP Haakon
The Prince of Orange
CPss Mathilde
CPss Mette-Marit
Pss Madeleine
Caroline Dinkelspiel
Anna Westling Blom

Does anyone know how long after the birth of members of the Swedish Royal Family are christened?

Also, are all the members of Swedish Royal Family christened in the chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm?

In Denmark, it is about three months in the current generation(i.e. all the Queen Margrethe II's grandchildren).

:flowers:

1. Crown Princess Victoria was born on 14:th july and christened on 27:th spetember. Prince Carl Philip was born on 13:th may and christened 31:th august. Princess Madeleine was born on 10:th june and also christened on 31:th august. Our King was born on 30:th april and christened 7:th june.

2. Yes most of them are christened at the royal palace chapel in Stockholm. King Gustaf VI Adolf and King Oscar II was christened in "Vita Havet Ballroom" at the royal palace in Stockholm.

I don´t think there will be a lot of godparents. Maybe 5 but not more than 8. If they follow the same procedure as when they choosed Victorias godparents, they will be Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, one of W-A or Maxima from Netherlands, Prince Carl Philip and Daniels sister Mrs Anna Westling Söderström (she has remarried so her name is not Blom anymore).
I would be surprised if no one from Denmark was asked too as they are both close friends and close relatives.
I´m sure that there will be someone from Netherlands too. Victoria is godmother to Catharina-Amalia, Beatrix is godmother to Victoria and Juliana was godmother to our King so there is a close connection.

I´m guessing at 5 godparents
1. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway
2. One of Willem-Alexander or Maxima from Netherlands
3. One of Frederik or Mary from Denmark
4. Prince Carl Philip of Sweden
5. Mrs Anna Westling Söderström

Many people is guessing that a girl would have Christina as a first name. It´s nice but i´m not sure it would be a first name. It´s not a modern name for new born kids in sweden as a first name. More middle aged ladies has Christina as first name. Same situation with Lilian, Ingrid, Birgitta and Margareta. Desiree is a very uncommon name in Sweden in every ages and very unlikely to be used as a first name.
As a first name i think they will choose a royal name with atleast one historic connection and that also is a modern name today. And then we have for a girl Louise, Lovisa, Sofia, Josefine/Josefina, Anna, Maria for ex. I personally would love the name Eleonora even though it´s not a common name.
For a boy Carl, Gustaf, Johan, Oscar, Fredrik, Magnus, Erik.
I prefer Carl Johan to honour "the father of all the royal bernadottes".

^Eleonora may be an uncommon name but I agree with you that it is beautiful.

It's pretty nice that they're announcing it that soon, it's just a pain in the ... to wait 3-5 months to hear the name.

For a girl I'm pretty sure of either Margareta or Christina (it would be funny though if she named her kid Christina, then Sweden would have a future Queen Christina and Denmark would have a future King Christian), for a boy I think it will be a little Carl ~something~ like his uncle and grandfather.

I quite like that we have some extra months to guess the name. :D

I don't think the baby will have Christina as the first name, for that reason exactly. Maybe a younger child, but not this one.

But I don't think their daughter (if it's a girl) will be named Eleonora; Spain will have the Queen with this name (Leonor is a Spanish equivalent of Eleonora), and there are two more European princesses with this name (in Belgium and Netherlands)

Really? I thought Christina was somewhat popular in Sweden, like for instance here in Denmark, I know a lot of girls my age (17) with the name.
I don't really think popularity is that important when naming a future King/Queen though, Christian was not extremely popular in Denmark when our Prince was born, but obviously he was going to be named it because of traditions. But I don't know, what you say seems logical :flowers:

I quite like that we have some extra months to guess the name. :D

But then again, we've had like 6-7 months to guess in before the birth and then 2-4 months extra until the christening is just so boring :p

Christina is a common name in Sweden but not as a 1:st name to new born girls. I also know some younger girls who has Christina as their 1:st name but to the younger generation it is more common as a 2:nd or 3:rd name from a statistical viewpoint.

We haven´t the tradition here in Sweden to name our first born prince either one name or an another like you have in Denmark. That´s a nice tradition i like. But Gustaf has become somewhat of a tradition in the "Bernadotte Dynasty". We have had four first born princes in a row with the name Gustaf. King Gustaf V, King Gustaf VI Adolf, Prince Gustaf Adolf and King Carl XVI Gustaf. The line was broken with Prince Carl Philip.

Ofcourse it is more important what the parents prefer than what is popular but for Victoria it is extremly important that it has a good historic connection and that the people like it. So i think we can expect a name that is not "totally out of date".

But time will tell :flowers:

I would be very surprised if William or Kate would be choosen as godparents, I don't know if they have met Victora and Daniel more than at the British wedding. If any British royal would be choosen it would be one of the Wessex, as they have met eachothers quite often, Sophie would be an excellent choice for a second or third child.

I agree, if any British royal is chosen it should be Edward or Sophie, more so Sophie, as they have known Victoria for several years. They are the only ones to attend European Royal gatherings, so they have socialised with Victoria more than William. I would love to see Sophie chosen, though I doubt it would be for their firstborn as Sophie is not going to be Queen.

I can see Haakon or Mette-Marit being selected, along with Mary or Phillipe. It will no doubt consist of many heirs-to-thrones in the line-up, which is why Sophie would never be chosen. She would make a lovely godmother though, I don't think she is godmother to any Royals. I know Edward is Prince Nikolai's godfather. (Side note, I didn't know til recently that Princess Anne is Prince Haakon's godmother.)

I can't wait for this birth, I am so excited to know names and godparents.

I would be on the Prince of Orange.

:previous:
I also think that one of godparents would be W-A,Prince of Orange.
They seems that have tradition :)
Queen Juliana is godparent to King Carl Gustaf,Queen Beatrix to CP Victoria, CP Victoria to P Catharina-Amalia and next is CP Willem-Alexander to new Swedish royal baby ;)

For a boy I would like Fredrik to honour a former Swedish dinasty. For a girl Karolina would be lovely. It would remind the last Vasa Princess.

If you by Karolina mean Carola of Wasa, queen of Saxony, she didn't belong to the Wasa dynasty, she belonged to the Holstein-Gottorp dynasty. The Holstein-Gottorp dynasty was related to the Wasa dynasty through a daughter of Karl IX of Sweden and today's Bernadotte dynasty is related to the Holstein-Gottorp dynasty through a daughter of Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden, so both Victoria and Madeleine are as much Wasa princesses as Carola was. The "Prince of Wasa" title her father had was given to him by the Austrian emperor Franz II.

The last princess of the Wasa dynasty was queen Christina of Sweden.

If I could guess princess Marie if denmark's baby's gender correctly then for Victoria it's going to be a BABY GIRL and as for the name IDK.

Well, we'll see. I guessed a correct gender for Marie's baby girl, but I think Victoria will give birth to a boy.

I think Victoria is having a boy and from the most recent photos her stomach is very low so the baby might make an appearance in the next few weeks - IMO I think the baby will be born in February :)

Agree - the way she has carried it seems to be a boy - or twins. ;)

I still hope that it is a boy and I hope that they will not put Carl to his first name.

Girl

Alexandrine
Emily
Alice
Margaret
Elizabeth

For a boy it seems to be a custom to use two first names like Carl Gustaf and Carl Philip.
What do you think, would it go with a girl as well?
"Anna" would make classic beautiful name combinations like

Anna Lovisa (e.g. Anna-Lovisa Silvia Christina)
Anna Sophia (e.g. Anna-Sophia Silvia Victoria)
Anna Katarina (e.g. Anna Katarina Silvia Lilian Lovisa)
Anna Karolina (e.g. Anna Karolina Frederika Silvia Lovisa)
etc.

^i like the name Anna too, its very classical and never gets old. for boy i dislike so much Oscar, for my taste is horrible, so i would pick the name Johan, but i doubt it since is a name for other children they might have, not for the first-born.

i have a question, what sex the Swedes have preference for the first-child/heir? im sure that by now, some polls were issued right? i just want to know the general opinion.

I haven't seen any polls about which sex is preferred as regardless of the sex the child will one day inherit the throne. The polls I've seen have only been about whether it will be a boy or a girl, and the three polls I found by searching Google all had less than 100 people voting, so there doesn't seem to be much interest regarding the sex of the child.
