Karin Mamma Andersson, the designer of GEN-PEP's "Årets Peppare" -prize, tells at GEN-PEP's press release how prince Daniel asked her to design the prize, what she thought about it and why the prize is like it is.
- The first thought was probably why a sculpture, I'm painter? I was surprised both by Prince Daniel's question but also of my answer, which was a hesitant yes, says Karin Mamma Andersson.
GEN-PEP chose to work with Swedish artist Karin Mamma Andersson.
Karin Mamma Andersson began her career on the sculpture line at the Art Academy in Stockholm, but switched to fine art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Her paintings are highly praised and she is now one of Sweden's most acclaimed artists internationally.
- I was thinking about the prizes I have received. They've been qualified but pretty boring. Most often totally abstract. I saw in my mind a colorful figure with a fruit or vegetable on the head. Thought that health is something we should always bear with us, to move in daily life and eating good food. Since I am not a sculptor, I realized very quickly that I needed advice and practical help to do this.
So I decided instead to make a pretty big pear, I thought, be painted in many different colors. The woman / girl was just something I mocking me on the side, because I still thought about the idea. When Thomas Karlsson (sculptor) came to pick the pear for casting, he saw the woman / girl and said; that's much more fun!
I agreed with but felt that I was not quite ready, but said "okay, take it, it will be good." Thomas did cast it in a run, and after the New Year, I got it to the studio for the painting.
The beautiful statuette was received at the Sports Gala by a happy Cecilia Andrén Nyström, founder of Futebol dá Força.
- Somehow I was probably psyched to start work in three dimensions. The strange thing is that I all these years, have sometimes picked up sculptures motifs in my paintings. So you never know, it might live a longing for it, Karin Mamma Andersson answer to the question if she is inspired to continue sculpting.

What attracted you to Generation PEP?
What attracted us with Generation PEP is primarily that GEN-PEP synchronizes directly with our motto. All young people should have the right to find the joy and the possibility of exercise, regardless of the conditions they have.
What do you hope that we will accomplish together?
We'll get more children and young people with developmental disabilities to play sports, and to use sport as a means to create a change of attitude towards persons with developmental disabilities.
