Generation Pep wants the whole society to understand the seriousness of the pandemic we have just left, is not the only pandemic we are in. The pandemic of sedentary has at least as serious consequences as sedentary leads to such serious diseases, increased risk of mental illness and in the long run death. Generation Pep has worked for over five years to increase awareness, spread knowledge and create commitment to the issue of children and young people's physical health. The interest in the issue is high, but we need to get even more people who are committed to creating change.

Östergötland's first Pep Park
Hyresbostäder will build a so-called Pep Park on Skärblacka. Tenants, Skärblacka residents and students from Parksskolan have during the spring been involved in designing the park and its contents. Parkskolan has worked in the subjects image and technology to produce the best proposal.
A basic requirement has been to use as much material as possible from nature and reuse the environment for a sustainable park. The park is expected to be completed in December and an inauguration is planned in connection with that.
Pep Park is a concept developed by Generation Pep that works for that all children and young people in Sweden should have the opportunity and desire to live an active and healthy life. The first Pep Park was opened in Solna in 2019. The parks provide children, young people and adults with the conditions for play, movement and everyday exercise together.
Carolina Klüft, operations manager in Generation Pep says: We developed the concept Pep Park to inspire more people to create activity areas to promote the joy of movement in children and young people. We know that only a fraction of children and young people move to the extent they need, so building more surfaces that invite play and movement is something we see as incredibly positive.

Daniel had today a meeting with the steering group of Generation Pep.

Carolina Klüft, operations manager for Generation Pep and Klas Bergling, Avicii's father, at a philanthropy seminar.
Giving Tuesday takes place on November 30 and traditionally Private Banking invites to a philanthropy seminar.
This year's theme is the health of children and young people - and the importance of us all paying attention and taking responsibility for their physical and mental well-being. How can we create long-term sustainable improvement and what can we do together?
In a panel discussion, Carolina Klüft, who after a successful athletics career is operations manager for Generation Pep, talks about how she works with the joy of movement for children and how it affects the conditions for health throughout life.
Klas Bergling, founder of the Tim Bergling Foundation, talks about his vision and concrete initiatives to support children and young people who feel bad and about the importance of cooperation to reach and include everyone.

Promoting good health for children and young people is one of the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation's focus areas. The purpose of today's seminar was to inspire and touch on issues about the connection between the brain, emotions and how music and movement can have a positive impact on young people's well-being.
Victoria said at her speech that she hopes that today's seminar will contribute to increased knowledge and new ideas about how we can strengthen young people's mental well-being, and how music and movement can be used in that work.
Artist Sarah Dawn Finer was the moderator and the participants included chief physician Anders Hansen and professor Eva Bojner Horwitz. Invited guests were representatives from the business community, the music industry, non-profit organizations and young people.
The seminar was arranged by the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation in collaboration with the Tim Bergling Foundation (created in the memory of Avicii by his parents), MIND and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and with support from Crown Princess Victoria's Foundation for Scientific Research and Training.

Victoria's speech, she said also: "However, the library's collections also contain a large number of musicals. Among other things, 6000 printed and handwritten notes, as well as my great-great-grandfather King Gustaf V's record collection.
Music has always had a place here in the palace. Just as it has a large and important place in the lives of many people.
I am very happy for the opportunity to arrange today's seminar together with the Tim Bergling Foundation, Mind and Royal Academy of Music.
Tim Bergling was a great talent, who left us far too soon. His memory lives on through his music. But also through the efforts made within the framework of the foundation in his name."

It was great to get to work with and listen to @mindsverige @timberglingfoundation Kungliga musikaliska akademin, @carolinakluft @andersehansen @jasontmbk @annaduberg @bojwitz @staffanscheja and many other brilliant people. We discussed and learned how music and movement in every way, affect us all, and especially our children, and how it helps us all feel Better. A matter that is as important as ever, especially with Young people. It was an honor for me, as it is an essential and lifesaving matter to discuss in my own Life as well. Music has saved my Life more times than one. Victoria and Daniel had today a digital meeting with organization Junis, which receives support from the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation.
Junis is the children's organization where everyone up to the age of 15 can join. In Junis, everyone should feel welcome, be seen and be able to participate and decide. Junis is the sobriety movement IOGT-NTO movement's children's organization with about 180 associations around the country and 10,000 members.
In 2020, Junis Umeå was awarded support from the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation, and in 2021, Junis has been centrally granted support to develop the Junis Sport concept.
At the digital visit Victoria and Daniel and the Foundation (Foundation's managing director Elin Annwall and project developer Nahal Illerstig attended also the visit) gained in-depth knowledge about Junis's activities, the Junis Sport project and had conversations with some of the members from Junis Umeå, among them Karim Kashef, 12 years.

About Victoria and Daniel's digital meeting with Junis Association last week.
Mona Örjes, President of Junis Association, why Junis met the Crown Princess couple?
- In 2021, Junis Umeå received money from the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation, and the Junis Association will receive money to develop Junis' sport in Jämtland and Östergötland in 2022. Therefore, the Crown Princess couple were curious about what Junis is for organization, and wanted to know more about us.
Mona tells about the meeting that they started with a presentation round and watched a short film about Junis' activities. Then they told about what Junis is for organization, what they do and what they stand for, of course spiced with stories about what it is like to be a child and leader with Junis. Victoria and Daniel were curious and committed, and asked many questions, especially from Karim and Hanane. Mona says that of course it felt a little exciting to meet Victoria and Daniel but very fun to talk about something they are so incredibly proud of: what a big difference it makes for children to come to Junis.

Daniel has been the patron of the Swedish Basketball Federation since 2019.

Press release from the Swedish Basketball Federation today:
Major investment in leaders with Generation Pep
Generation Pep and the Swedish Basketball Federation start Projekt Assist, which will train 500 new leaders.
The waiting lists are growing throughout Sweden at basketball clubs that can not accept all young people who want to start playing. One problem is a lack of leaders and Projekt Assist and Generation Pep now want to remedy this together in a unique collaboration.
- Together, we will train 500 new leaders in socio-economically vulnerable areas so that children and young people can play basketball and become part of Sports Sweden, says the Swedish Basketball Association's general secretary Fredrik Joulamo.
Generation Pep is investing in getting more active
- We know that association life plays an important part in the lives of children and young people, not least leaders. Having a good and committed leader can be what makes children and young people choose to continue with a sport, which is why it is so incredibly important that we train more leaders so that more children have the opportunity to become active. We at Generation Pep are also concerned about the development where more and more children spend more time sitting still and one way to get more children moving is to increase the proportion of children and young people who are active in association life and we believe that this project can make a important contribution, says Carolina Klüft, operations manager Generation Pep.
A total of 500 leaders will be trained, mainly in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö - three cities where basketball grows the most.
Johannes Forbes is area manager for Fryshuset in Stockholm. The lack of leaders is great and Forbes estimates that many more children could be activated in the basketball club if there were only enough leaders.
- This project can really make a difference because with more leaders and more people getting the opportunity to play basketball, there are many more children and young people who will end up in a positive context and find a community.
The project starts in 2022 and runs for three years.

- For those of us who want to reverse the trend by creating a popular movement for more physical activity, better eating habits and a more equal health for children and young people, each contribution to us is an opportunity for us to work more intensively and better. We thank Einar Mattsson for the generous gift, says Generation Pep's operations manager Carolina Klüft.

On January 17, the prize for "Årets peppare" will be awarded at the Sports Gala. New for this year is that the winner will receive a new prize. Sculptor Thomas Karlsson has produced five figurines which in the coming years will be awarded to Årets peppare.
Tell me, what was important to you when you designed the prize?
It was a bit of a challenge as I primarily work with paper, but now it should be something more sustainable. I started by looking at other prizes and to find inspiration. For me, it has been important that the prize is seen on TV when it is received, and that it reflects a gala evening and the fact that it is awarded in a very solemn context.
What do you hope those who receive the award will feel when they look at the figurine?
Joy and pride, I want them to feel that I have earned this prize and it promotes the desire to continue the work.

In this year's Up and Jump campaign, is a recurring favorite, namely that we challenge the whole of Sweden to make Jumping Jacks in all its forms! Generation Pep has published its annual report 2021. Operations manager Carolina Klüft writes:
"In 2021, it was five years since the Crown Princess couple took the initiative for Generation Pep. Since we work to increase awareness, spread knowledge and create commitment to the issue around health of children and young people. We have under these five years noticed that interest in the issue is high, but we need more people to get involved in creating a society where all children and young people have the opportunity and desire to live an active and healthy life. Unfortunately, the trend is going in the wrong direction and the pandemic has struck unequally. We are convinced that is together with all our partners, our network, schools and preschools and all the zealots out there as we can reverse the trend and together make Sweden feel better."

At the report
"We are seen with the help of Founders and Ambassadors
The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel's commitment for children and young people's health is great and contributes to strengthen the visibility of Generation Peps work. During the summer, for example Prince Daniel took part in SVT's Sommarlov and spread both knowledge, joy and inspiration linked to children's movement.
During the year, our operations manager Carolina Klüft was appointed to honorary doctor at Sahlgrenska Academy. This award is an important part of making visible our work and is a receipt that the Generation Pep done so far is important, it is also one award that strengthens us as an organization going forward.
We also know that we need to reach beyond our own network to create visibility and therefore work we actively with ambassadors since 2019. The ambassadors who have been part of Generation Pep in 2021 were; Jiloan Hamad, Per Kasperi, Jessica Almenäs, Anders Hansen, Mårten Nylén, Sarah Sjöström, Mustafa Mohammed, Annika Sjöö, Fanny Ahlfors and Patrik Widell. We have worked with the ambassadors on various way, but above all by making features on our social media in the form of movement breaks. The ambassadors also lift us then themselves participates in media contexts."

Victoria and Daniel hosted on Thursday at Haga Palace a dinner for the partners of The Crown Princess Couple's Foundation.

Suicide Zero is one of the fourteen organizations/projects The Crown Princess Couple's Foundation awarded a grant in November 2021,
Suicide Zero posted to its social media with a photo of Victoria and Daniel:
"Our Secretary General Rickard Bracken was present, and during the evening he gave a speech that touched many. Rickard presented Suicide Zero as an organization, our suicide prevention work and what the situation looks like for children and young people today.
It is incredibly honored for us as an organization to be on site at Haga Palace together with the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation and all partners. We share their vision that all children and young people, regardless of circumstances, should grow up to be safe and strong individuals with a positive belief in the future and the ambition to counteract exclusion and promote good health for children and young people in Sweden.
As we have previously communicated, the Foundation partly finances the education "Dare to ask young" which Suicide Zero will launch in 2022. More information about this will be a little later.
Warm thanks to H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria and H.R.H. Prince Daniel, the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation and all partners for your support of our work and for a wonderful dinner at Haga Palace - Together we make a difference for our children and young people."

Elin Annwall, the managing director of The Crown Princess Couple's Foundation, spoke with Svensk Damtidning about the dinner at Haga Palace last Thursday:

From time to time, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel have unofficial dinners at Haga Palace, and among the guests who got to sit down at the beautifully set table in the dining room on Thursday night were the Foundation's partners and representatives of the organizations and activities supported.
At the dinner attended also Generation Pep's operations manager Carolina Klüft and Ahmed Abdirahman, the CEO of The Global Village Foundation.
- The purpose of the dinner was to give the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation's partners an update of the activities and of the projects and organizations that the Foundation supports to counteract exclusion and promote health for children and young people, says Elin Annwall.
She says that the meetings at are organized annually:
- Our hope is that they are nice and rewarding and give the participants new insights and perspectives.

Generation Pep launched its fourth Pep Report yesterday

Pep report 2022 - Clear connection between sedentary and mental illness
The Pep report is released today for the fourth year in a row and unique for this year is that children and young people have now also had to answer questions about mental illness. The report shows that mental illness seems to be more common for children who move less, have a more sedentary screen time, who eat less according to the dietary advice and are children and young people in families with lower socio-economic status.
Some of the main points of the report:
Children and adolescents who exercise regularly experience less mental illness, while children and adolescents who have a longer time sitting still in front of a screen experience more mental illness.
2 out of 10 children and young people reach the recommendation for physical activity. From the age of four, a difference can be seen between the sexes, where a larger proportion of the girls do not reach the recommendation compared with the boys.
On average, children and young people eat only half of the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables per day.
Only 4 % of children and young people both exercise according to the recommendation and eat according to the dietary advice linked to fruit and vegetables and fish.
Despite many reports, there has been a lack of good data in Sweden to assess the extent of children and young people's mental illness. Here, this year's Pep report adds new important data as the first broad measurement of mental health in children and adolescents.
- The results in the report are something that society must take seriously and gather strength around. We can not let the well-being of an entire generation deteriorate because we as an adult world do not act in time, says Carolina Klüft, operations manager at Generation Pep.
The Pep report is a survey of how much Swedish children and young people aged 4–17 move, what they eat and how factors around the children are related to living habits. Generation Pep is behind the survey and the Pep report 2022 is being implemented with the support of the Heart-Lung Foundation. The SOM Institute at the University of Gothenburg has conducted the survey.

Generation Pep has asked questions about the results of the Pep Report 2022 to Anders Hansen, doctor, psychiatrist and author who has written a number of books on how our physical health is related to our mental health. One of the questions is:
Prolonged screen time is a risk factor for mental illness - how does sedentary screen time affect our brain?
Hansen: It is not easy to answer as it is a new area but I think the most important impact of digitalisation on us is what we do not do when we spend so much time on the screen. Because when we spend four to five hours today on our phones, it nibbles on something else, the day has only 24 hours. We know today that young people, especially teenagers, sleep less, move less and meet less IRL. These factors, sleep, exercise and being seen for real, are protective factors that are increasingly eroded in our digital age.

Daniel speaks at Generation Pep's new campaign video:
Everything gets better when you live healthier
Generation Pep has long talked about the dangers of an unhealthy lifestyle, both in terms of increased sedentary and poor diet. Now we also want to talk more about the benefits of living a healthy life. For the benefits are many, both for adults and children.
In May 2022, we at Generation Pep launched a campaign called "Everything gets better when you live healthier". The purpose of the campaign is to highlight that there are significantly more benefits than reducing the risk of lifestyle-related diseases when we live a healthy life.
