Oh, I love that photo too. Sometimes you see photos of royals just shaking hands or waving at the adoring crowd from a distance, and I don't always like that. It's nice that Victoria can spend time hugging and engaging with the 'normal' people, even though she doesn't have to.

I recall Elena saying a few weeks ago on a greek tv show that she was looking forward to that event and felt really happy to be invited to sing for CP Victoria. She also said that she considers princess Madeleine as one of the most beautiful women she has ever seen.

Why do only Victoria and Silvia wear the traditional Swedish costume?

I know this question has been asked before, but there was no real answer.

One could say that only women wear it, but then again, why is Madeleine dressed differently?

I really would like to know that.

I don't think anyone really knows the answer, we would have to ask the royals themself in order to get an answer.

On Victoria's birthday they (Victoria & Silvia) wear the Öland costume, the Swedish national costume is worn on the National Day.

My theory on why only the two of them and not Madeleine wears the Öland costume on this day, is that it's because Victoria is the main character on her birthday, the celebrations are in her honour - and Silvia is the country's Queen/first lady, so she also wears it to distinct herself.

On the National Day, Princess Madeleine also wear the national costume, along with the Queen and Crown Princess.

No Chameleon, the Royal males never wear traditional costumes but Prince Carl philip did as a small boy.
