Following up on NaAnLi's post, does anyone know if all of these related European royals have a lingua franca? Does it depend on who is present? What do, say, Felipe and Victoria use when they speak? English or French, maybe?

I read that when several of the present queens get together (Margrethe, Silvia, Sonja, Anne-Marie and Sofia) they speak English. But that when the Scandinavian queens get together they speak Swedish, which both sound similar to Danish and Norwegian or at least have similar sounding words and meanings.

I don't know about the younger generations of royalty. But I presume that English is common since many of them have studied at English-language universities (Felipe, Pavlos, Victoria, Madeline, Frederik, Haakon).

HM the Queen of Denmark speaks fluent Swedish since her mother; the late Queen Ingrid learned her that. Queen Margrethe's speaks Swedish with an upper-class - old-fashioned dialect.

this summer she said that "as long as someone shows up to celebrate me I´ll be there"
So hopefully it will continue for many years!

She once said that she maybe will do the same birthday celebrations, att Solliden and in Borgholm, on her own childs birthdays, "aslong as they dont have their birthday in January, It´s OK"

The Victoria Day has been celebrated on Öland since the year 1978 when Victoria was 1 year old. Every year a schollarship is given to a selected swedish sportsman. Some of those are Ingemar Stenmark, Gunde Svan, Pernilla Wiberg and Magdalena Forsberg. You can see a complete list here: http://www.victoriadagen.nu/tidigare.asp
