Karlstad fick nytt prinsbesök när Daniel kom till stan _ Svensk Damtidning
Translation

Daniel gave an interview to Nwt-newspaper. He says that one of the reasons he started this program is that he has a background as an entrepreneur himself. He knows the feeling of realizing dreams and living on what one has passion within, it feels incredibly strong. And we need more jobs. If some of these young people can in the future create companies that employ a lot of people, we have gained much from it.
Daniel himself has a background as an entrepreneur in the fitness industry. It would be something similar if he were to start a business today.
- It would be in health. I'm quite concerned about children's health, and we are increasingly sedentary. It would probably be targeted at children and young people.

Daniel attends this evening at discussions on female leadership, entrepreneurship and enterprise at Swedbank in Stockholm. He was speaking and according to messages in social media he said that gender equality and standards begin in the classroom and that women don't always get the same chances than men.

Yes, I think so too.

From the court website:
Prince Daniel spoke at the seminar on the theme of gender equality as a driving force for sustainable development; Do men and women have the same opportunities to become entrepreneurs today?
Other speakers were Swedbank's CEO Michael Wolf, Mara Swan from ManpowerGroup, CEO of Swedfund Anna Ryott and Minister for Enterprise and Innovation Mikael Damberg. There was also a panel discussion.

Daniel said at an interview to Blekinge Läns Tidning, that his most important advice to young people who are planning to be entrepreneurs is that one must dare to start and not be afraid to fail. It is a natural consequence when one is brave and dares to invest that sometimes it doesn't go so well. It would be also good to find a person, some kind of mentor who could give advice. Daniel said that there is a need to change at the society, we need a society where people are couraging and praise those who are doing good things. Daniel says that he understands that it is more interesting to write about failures. Daniel said that if he could start a new company now, it would be at the health business. It is not only about to go to the gym and to be well-trained, but it is also a bigger issue socio-economically, many people are sufferering from a bad health.

Anna Omstedt Lindgren was one of the experts and had a round-table discussion with students from Af Chapmangymnasiet.
- It was extremely inspiring and fun to get issues which were so good. It's clear that entrepreneurship is something we talk much more about today than when I went to high school, she says.
She also thinks it's great that the prince chooses to engage and inspire young people to entrepreneurship.
- It is always tremendous fun to meet him. He is incredibly humble and very present. He listens and is really interested, she says.
During the discussion, Anna Omstedt Lindgren decided to take up her cell phone to capture the moment. The image of the photo currently doing success both on Facebook and Instagram.
- Hopefully these students take up this picture in ten years and say: I was at this lecture and it inspired me to become an entrepreneur, says Anna Omstedt Lindgren.

Sveriges Radio Blekinge's audio broadcast about the visit:
- I think it's great that he's going out to schools in Sweden and inspires young people, and that you get the chance to meet and talk with him, says Alicia Kristensson.
She was one of about 30 specially selected students who got to meet the prince and the other three of Sweden's most prominent entrepreneurs for some personal coaching. In third grade, she and her classmates will an UF company. The prince told how it was when he started his gym and he talked a lot about that you should not be afraid to fail.
- Yes, you've got the motivation to dare now, says the student Hampus Svensson.
And Prince Daniel seemed equally satisfied to meet students as they were to meet him.
- I love this type of visits, and to meet a lot of enthusiastic young hungry people, the next generation who will be involved and influence our society.

It is so great to see Prince Daniel engaging young people to dare to be entrepreneurial. All these visits must make a tremendous difference for lots of young people and who knows, perhaps out of these visits me may find the next Madam Curie or Bill Gates.

Svensk Damtidning's article has photos from yesterday evening at the Entrepreneurs Gala.
But the article tells what happened in Karlskrona when Daniel was there with Prince Daniel Fellowship and the reporter from Radio Sweden P4 Blekinge was going to interview him (Radio Sweden Bleking wrote about this earlier). The reporter asked if it was okay to say "du" to Daniel = to ask for instance "Daniel, what do you think about entrepreneurship". Daniel said that it was fine, he could do that. But the Marshal of the Court said that the court wants rather that you should try to keep the titles and say "prinsen" (prince) = to ask "What does the prince think about entrepreneurship".

Radio Sweden P4 Blekinge called to Margareta Thorgren to sort it all out.
Why does the court think that it is important to keep the titles?
- We have the custom at the court, we must of course also modernize us but many times the swedish people expect the royal family be styled that way.
It's a tradition, and it it still there. It is still a royal family and to stick to titles is not so strange, but if you ask the royal family, they do not react during the interviews if one says "du".
Do you think it will change, so that we just say "du"?
- The future may tell that.

I read something about that on twitter this morning... I think that Daniel, being a very easy-going guy, and coming from a not noble family was absolutely fine about the"du"... I also think that the court did right to intervene... after all, it maybe be a big strethc out to get that sort of closeness to a royal! Part of me think that if it had ben the King, or Victoria, the interview wouldn't even have dare to ask that question! :D

But the some reporters say every now and then during Victoria's and sometimes even the king's and queen's interviews (made in a hurry) "Du", and the royals don't interrupt the interview and say that "you must say "the crown princess"". And the swedish TV-reporters say "du" to the prime minister, so...

Ah I didn't know that! To me it sounds very odd!:whistling:

I've heard that formal addressing (saying "ni" instead of "du") is very uncommon in Sweden nowadays, and maybe that's why interviewers easily make mistakes.

Those who understand swedish, can listen to the interview here, Daniel starts to talk at 2.35. The reporter says "träffat både dig" "Varför tycker du att det ...", "hur viktigt tycker du ...", so the "order" the Marshal of the Court gave didn't work.

But the interview was good anyway. And I listened it three times before that and didn't notice that the reporter said "du". The main thing for me was what Daniel told.

The link between physical health and school performance as demonstrated in American studies was raised, as well as the wish that it would be equally obvious to exercise every day like brushing your teeth. The prince concluded by pointing out that we can make a difference, and we must do it together.
The prince also mentioned his involvement in preventive work in En Frisk Generation, the Heart-Lung Foundation and the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation.

Researcher Erik Melén at Karolinska Institutet received this year Prince Daniel's Grant for Particularly Promising Young Researchers of his BAMSE study which has since 2004 followed 4000 children to give answers to the causes of asthma and allergy. BAMSE (it is swedish) stands for Children, Allergy, Environment, Stockholm and Epidemiology. The study so far has shown that both genetics and environment play a role in the risk of developing asthma and allergies. Among other things, they found that children exposed to high levels of air pollution as infants have an increased risk of reduced lung function.
- It is a great honor for me to get Prince Daniel's grant in 2015. It gives us the opportunity to observe the children in the study longer and teach us more about how diseases like allergy, asthma and COPD develop from childhood to adulthood, says Erik Melén.

During the roundtable conversations students were encouraged by the Prince and the experts. They were given practical tips on how to develop their business ideas, but they were also able to ask their own questions.
Prince Daniel got to answer to a question: who is his role model.
- In the role I have now, my wife is my role model. When I ran the gym many of my customers were my role models in various ways, people who could do the business, told the prince.

Even SvD Näringsliv's reporter was there.
- A successful and prosperous entrepreneur does not help only himself but also creates jobs and ensures that people evolve. Yesterday I talked with a good contractor who had hired six skilled, competent and well-educated Syrians. There are also organizations that are not companies, but there are a lot of entrepreneurship and people who get involved and create conditions for people in distress, says Daniel to SvD Näringsliv.
And as for the Swedish industry to develop Daniel shares the vision that Niklas Zennström has.
- One can see that the traditional industry in Sweden is coming along. Global we have been a long time, and a large share of our GDP comes by strong exports. But you also see that the industry is becoming more digitized and robotized. It happens a lot, says Daniel.

SVT Uppsala interviewed Daniel and the experts.
How to avoid beginner mistakes as self-employed and what exactly is success? These were some of the things that Daniel talked about at Katedralskolan today.
- My tip is to get a mentor who has done some kind of entrepreneur trip earlier so that you can avoid some of the mistakes that one otherwise will do, says Daniel.
What is the best question you've received from students today?
- What is success, was a relevant question today. My answer was about that you should be happy and enjoy what you are doing.
The attitude to start a business has changed, says Sebastian Siemiatkowski.
- When we studied here the word entrepreneur was associated with some guy who was doing construction. Starting a business was not an idea in our world.
According to the students they got several valuable hints.
- That you should not be afraid to try, Johanna Örtenhed Velthoen.
- To never give up even if you have a setback, says Ahmed Mahmoud.
Daniel said also that there are a lot of good things in Uppsala: the university, he has attended at bandy finals and celebrated May Day Eve there, a long time ago.

For once there is a very good, matter-of-fact article and interview with Daniel at Svensk Damtidning. Margareta Gotthardsson was with Daniel in Uppsala a couple of weeks ago, when Daniel was there with Prince Daniel Fellowship program. Part of the article.

Daniel said that for him at the gym it was a success if he could help someone with a problem on the back, or someone who wanted to lose or get weight. Success for him is very much tied with happiness. The financial success is not as much worth of anything if one isn't happy in one's life.
Although Daniel is a prince, he is humble and seems very reasonable. He is genuinely interested when the students present their business ideas. He pushes forward a young man who doubts his ability to make a computer game. Another student who wants to create a website where people who seek jobs could put their anonymous cvs gets both praise and practical tips.
- An anonymous cv is a brilliant idea. I have participated in a leader education with gender perspective where I got to know how women are treated at a job interview compared with men. Discrimination at the job market must stop, says Daniel.
It's clear that he reaches the young people, speaks at the same level with them. He knows the hyped music producers and knows what computer games are popular. Something which surprises a young girl who wants to sell ecological body scrub to young people at actual shops.
- Don't young people buy their beauty products from the internet, like Bangerhead, Daniel asks.
- Oh, you even know Bangerhead, the girl answers astonished.
One can see that Daniel knows what he is speaking when he speaks about entrepreneurship, although he is very modest and says that he had "only" 100 employees. When he was young, he didn't think about starting a business.
- No one at our family had an own company. That I myself dared to invest depended on that I had a very secure childhood. I started the gym with some friends. If I should invest on everything I had I wanted to do it with someone I trusted totally. I started softly. I acquired experience and understanding about how an organization works. With a couple of friends we had many customers we had already trained, and we felt that we could train them in our own gym.
Why it is so important to have role models?
- I believe in the power of good example. Like now when students meet people who have gone to their school and succeeded, ordinary young people who they can identify themselves with. That way any thresholds and obstacles get lower.
Who was your role model when you were young and who is your role model now?
- When I was young I admired hockey player Peter Gradin from AIK. Later at the gym, many of my clients were my role models. And at my role now my wife is my biggest role model!
Do you tell about the meetings at home at the dinner table when you get home to Haga?
- Absolutely. We talk often about how the day has been, and I throw ideas to my wife and ask her what she thinks about them. We try always to support each other.
You talk a lot about daring to fail. How have you yourself dared to fail?
- By trying one dares to fail. I dared to try and of course I have failed in some things. For me as an entrepreneur some things took longer than I thought, and cost more money. And I think all the time that I do errors even in this role. I do more or less good meetings or find myself in situations where I feel "no, I was not good there" or "oh, why did I say so."
Are you trying to get your driving force to Princess Estelle?
- Both I and my wife have a very strong driving force and obviously we hope that Estelle gets some of it. But for her we mainly want that she will just be the world's most safe girl and gets a lot of hugs and love so that she becomes a confident person!

Daniel met today at the Royal Palace Johan Wendt, who has written a book "Curly Bracket: Den gömda koden". Wendt tells at his Facebook that Daniel really liked the book. The book is an exciting novel about the code, programming and data logical thinking. Johan Wendt is also the founder of Kodcentrum, which gets grant from the Crown Princess Couple's Foundation.

Daniel attends on 11th November at Slush entrepreneurs' event in Helsinki in Finland.
Slush is the focal point for entrepreneurs and tech talent to meet with top-tier international investors, executives and media. Slush is organized by a non-profit community to allow the next generation of great companies to have the ecosystem they deserve to succeed on a global level. To accomplish this, Slush brings the relevant investors and companies to the same place and makes sure that the right companies meet the right investors in one-on-one meetings.
