Thus he declared that only Royal Brides were possible for a Bernadotte if they were to stay in line to the throne to interconnect with the other dynasties and to prevent the Royal family to become related to the Swedish nobility, thus preventing family interests from the Swedish elite whenm it came to the throne.
The Swedish Succession order of 1810 doesn't say anything about that only royal brides were acceptable, just that a prince could not marry "enskild svensk mans dotter", which means that they could not marry a Swedish woman, but that would not mean that they could not marry a non-Swedish non-royal woman, it was just to prevent the royal family to be related to Swedish nobility.

You can find the 1810 Succession order here: Fältmarskalken: År 1810 års Successionsordning and the part about the marriages of princes are in §5.

The king highlighted in his speech that Victoria and whole royal family has a strong emotional bond with name Estelle.

Name Estelle brings positive and appreciative associations for all of them and is therefore understandable choice.
Name Estelle was also said to be Victoria's favourite since her childhood.

I go back to my original point. You don't have to like the name, you don't have to like anything. You do however, have to get over it and accept that this is what two people you don't know and will never know, have chosen to name their child. Like I said, I wasn't fond of the name Vincent for the first of Frederik and Mary's twins, but since I'm not Danish, and not related to them either through marriage or blood, nor do I even live there, what they named their child has no effect on me, whether I like the name or not.

In other words, I got over it moved on. He's not going to be King, that's his brother Christian's future responsibility, but he's still a Prince of Denmark and represents not just his family, but his country. Vincent doesn't sound particularly Danish, neither does Josephine or Isabella. However, that's what they named their children, and our opinion doesn't really matter.

Estelle is the name of the future Queen of Sweden. That's all there is to it.

And section 5 only said DAUGHTER, not common swedish mans SON.

Section 6 stated before the reform in 1974 that princesses couldnt marry without the knowledge and aproval of the king.

If King Karl XIV Johan's wife had been named Estelle that name would now be considered a very royal. Had the Crownprincess couple dared to name their daughter Desiree there would have been quite a discusson over how they could choose such a non-royal name. Isn't there a saying ...shoe on the other foot...?

Did not think of the Amethysts!!!!!!!!! You made my night!

:D:D:D

Happy to have done so. :) My Dad was a Nickel Miner for close to 30 years, Thank God nothing happened to him over that time, and he taught me an awful lot about Geology. That led into my interest in Gemstones and to my latest hobby of making jewelry/tiaras/circlets.

I wonder if one of the little one's gifts from either side of the Family will be a little necklace w/an Amethyst charm? I know in some Families that's a tradition for a baby girl, so just wondering. :flowers:

'Estelle to have normal childhood'-Expressen article (mostly speculative)

I always have to chuckle when I read such headlines - that heirs to the throne are to grow up "like normal people".

They dont and how could they? Their life, parents or environment are not "normal". Estelle will have bodyguards for the rest of her life.
Unlike other parents, Victoria & Daniel will not be able to hug their daughter and tell her "you can become whatever you like". Estelle's life is pre-destined, whether she likes it or not.
And the more "normality" she has, the harder it will become for her to cope with the "reality" of her life, her mother is no stranger to these feelings.

You're so right about this, but I guess that little Estelle should have as much contact to other people as possible...:flowers:

But that's the whole point of discussion! That's why we come here, to give our opinion, read different opinions and then have a bit of back and forth on it.

Of course we're not going to change Victoria and Daniel's decision. Doesn't mean we can't discuss it.

Its an interesting discussion, this - what really makes a contented and happy person as well as well-rounded one in such a situation. It could be argued that 'too much' so-called 'normality' is an ill-preparation for a royal life. In fact, it could be demonstrated that such an upbringing is the beginning of the end for a living monarchy. If children are not 'raised to the bar' - when it suddenly dawns on them that the reality of their obligations requires a very different life-style than what the've been shown - what will the person make of it all? They might retreat - they might be resentful - they might rebel. They might be very unhappy.

I doubt it takes them very long to discover their life is different from their friends in kindergarten. They will by then notice other children are not followed by photographers, other children are not saluted by soldiers, other childrenor their parents are not curtsied to, other children do not have their grandfathers face on the money and postage stamps. Until that time let them live with their illusions that they can grow up to be cowboys or policemen or whatever.

Every group of people, either different by race, socio-economic, ethnic or other differences have what is normal. It just changes from group to group. Normal in this case is most likely referring to having two parents involved in their up-bringing, going to public school, having chores at home and so on. Of course she will be different because she is born to be a regent at some point. But many children are born without any chance of picking their own destination. I am much more concerned about children being told that they are not good for anything, will never amount to anything, will not be able to move out of their birthplace because it is not for you... Most royal families are doing a great job of raising the crown prince/princess to embrace their destiny. To be born into such a destiny can also be a tremendous advantage if handled correctly by the parents and surrounding. Almost all european crownprinces/princesses have taken their future role to their heart and seem to relish in the role they have received by their birth.

I dont know how the royal families do but I think most of them bring up the regent very well and accept their destinity. eventhough they can not change their destinity to be queen or king they have theadvantage of money and power and this can compansate in a lot of other ways. Some kids they have talent for arts, sports etc..... but if the parents dont have the money to support them , doent matter the talent, they will nevr achieve their goal and they will not be who ever wants to be!

I agree whole-heartedly. As much as any heir to the throne would like to say they have had a normal life, as you look back over the years, normal is not the word that I would use. Full time body guards and all of our their movements being watched, by security and the public, not normal by definition.

I am remembering the days when royal children were tutored in the palace and were very much overprotected. Until she became Queen, Victoria of GB was very much under the thumb of her mother and not even allowed to walk down a flight of stairs unescorted. Those days and ideals have thankfully faded into the dust.

Today the younger generation of royals, even though surrounded by bodyguards and the perks of being royal, are much more in touch with the people around them. With the global society at their fingertips I think we are beginning to see royals that have the destiny to reign as being more in touch with what is not only affecting their own subjects but the state of mankind the world over.

They will never go without nor wonder where their next meal is coming from but they will be acutely aware of those that do and realize that they are in a position to do what they can to make a difference. This I think is reflected in Victoria and Daniel's request that in lieu of gifts, a donation to their charities would be preferred.

Am I remembering correctly that now Christian of Denmark is the only male heir of his generation?!?!?!?

 WOW - if that is the case, he will have some fun playing with his counterparts!!! < especially when he is a teenager !!!

:flowers:Congratulations to Crown Princess Victoria & Prince Daniel on the arrival of their first child; Princess Estelle.

There should be a thread on here relating to people having their dream royal like.
Your engagement ring
Your wedding dress
How you wear your hair on your wedding day
What name you would name your children
And
Everytime one of the royal ladies steps out, you post what you would have worn

The little cardigan the princess is wearing was knitted by great-grandmother Alice, perhaps for baby Victoria?

awww - she is so sweet. A beautiful little girl.

She has quite a big head for such a small body - normally this indicates intelligence....:flowers:

She is so cute! Congratulations for Victoria and Daniel! :flowers:
