Daniel looked smart and Victoria smiled so radiantly. I wonder what Daniel was chatting with Queen Silvia... :)

Queen Silvia is definitely very conscious of her image, and both her dressing down today and the fact that she made a point of showing a very approving attitude towards Daniel Westling are certainly no coincidence.
More opportunity to present a united family (including the King) comes tonight, at the representation gala. Swedish press reports from today continue to claim that it's the King (rather than the Queen) who remains sceptical about his daughter's union.

Queen Silvia 'bonding' with her future son-in-law during the ceremony:

it will be silvia's main task for the next years to walk behind this couple like a tank. the king is the king, he does as he likes and wont act, same as his counterparts over europe. it will be silvia's job to visibly and actively help to integrate the future consort into the family, same as her counterparts over europe. whether she truly likes him or not at this stage we will never know but it is likely that she will (have to) learn to like him because everything else would be a "shooting in the foot" scenario for the SRF.

:D
Great way of putting it. Just like she has been walking for the past 33 years behind her husband "like a tank." ;)

I was at the Royal Palace today, the first time i´ve seen the Crownprincess live, and it was really nice. It´s not such a big ceremony but it was fun to see it live. Victoria looked really beautiful and stopped infront of me to get some flowers from children - she was very sweet and talked a little with them in swedish, to the rest of us in the crowd she kept it in english (many tourists was there - i was surrounded by germans :)).
I took some pics with my phone:

BTW, are name days celebrated in other countries than Sweden and Finland? I believe its' origins lie in the past when catholicism was the main religion here and saints had their own feast days, correct me if I'm wrong. Of course, the list of names for each day of the year has since been updated many times to keep up with the names used today. I have three names, so I get to celebrate a lot during the year! :D Well, not really since we mainly celebrate the first name, not the other given names. Name day here in Finland is a small affair. You might get a post card and when I was small, I would get some kind of a small present.

Has anyone heard about the representation gala; when does it begin? I can't wait to see photos! And thank you all for those wonderful photos and sharing your stories! :flowers:

Pictures from the gala dinner can you find here:
Swedish Royal Wedding I think they are in the middle of the dessert right now.
Just uploaded pictures from Belga pic, but I´m out looking for more!

Can someone clarify why Victoria's name day is such a big event with 160 guests at the official dinner? I'm asking because my friends are asking me this.

One of the Finnish tabloids is trying to make something out of the fact that the King wasn't at the palace today with a headline saying "Why weren't you there, Carl Gustaf?" and stating that perhaps the king would have been there if Daniel wasn't... Well, in my opinion attending the meeting of the International Chamber of Commerce is a bit more important than attending your daughter's name day celebration, especially since His Majesty is attending the gala dinner. I think it was already in the calendar before the whole engagement was even on.

Victoria´s name day is NOT a big event, just the event at noon with flowers and cheer from the public. The Dinner tonight is a "Representationsmiddag" dinner with officials and other important guests that are held 2-3 times a year - this dinner has nothing to do with Victorias name day, it´s just a coinsident that they occour on the same day.

As you said the King had other things to do today, and if i remember correctly it´s not the norm that the king and other familymembers attend Victorias name day

This is my favorite picture from the day. It looks like the King is staring down Daniel and Daniel looks slightly scared. :D

Victoria looks so happy on all these pictures. It is really heart warming to watch such a happy couple like these two. Thank you all for posting all these picutes.

So right back from sweden it was so great to see here and she speaks with me german. thought she´s bigger at the photos as real but realy great pictures coming soon. rop81 you standing by my side heheh sorry but we have a lot of fun :)

Can somebody tell me what Crown Princess Victoria's Name Day is all about?

Victoria is in the habit of celebrating her birthday on Öland. Over the years this became a real "happening"

The people in Stockholm felt disadvantaged and also wanted a chance to celebrate and meet the crown princess.
So an event at her nameday got created.
A guard is giving flowers to her, music is getting played and Victoria is greeting her "fans"
