On Thursday, October 17, the Crown Princess attended Barndiabetesfonden's (the Child Diabetes Foundation) 30th anniversary in Linköping.
In connection with the anniversary, the fund organized a conference in Linköping where specially invited researchers lectured on childhood diabetes. The Crown Princess opened the conference with a speech:
"Through the foundation, I have had the opportunity to follow the scientific advances in diabetes research.
It has been fascinating - but also frustrating. So many children are falling ill with diabetes. But we still don't know why. Nor do we know why incidence is so high right here in Sweden and Finland."
Award ceremony
After the speech, the Crown Princess awarded two prizes to prominent pediatric diabetes researchers in the Nordic countries and Sweden. This year's winners were Araz Rawshani and Per-Ola Carlsson.
During the conference, the Crown Princess took part in several lectures on what is believed to cause type 1 diabetes, and what it is like to live with the disease.
The Crown Princess has been a patron of the Child Diabetes Foundation since 1993.

Victoria said at her speech also
Barndiabetesfonden, the Child Diabetes Foundation, was one of the first organizations for which I accepted patronage. This was in 1993 and I was 16 years old. A few years earlier, a close friend of mine had been diagnosed with diabetes type 1.(...)
At the beginning of this school year, the foundation’s chairman and founder, professor Johnny Ludvigsson did an interview on a national TV morning show.
You, Johnny, spoke of the fact that three out of four children with diabetes have no help at school to handle their disease.
All on their own, these children are expected take responsibility for an extremely complicated treatment of a life-threatening illness. I can only imagine the worry that their parents must feel.
Ladies and gentlemen. We don’t know when we will be able to cure diabetes, or who will make that great break-through.
But what we can do, today, all of us, is to work against prejudice and ignorance about diabetes.
Ladies and gentlemen: I am proud to be a patron of Barndiabetesfonden, and I look forward to following the progress of diabetes research in the years to come.

Victoria's personal words - about the chronic disease
Crown Princess Victoria made an emotional speech when she visited Linköping on Thursday.
In her speech, she revealed a detail about her personal relationship with type 1 diabetes.
- A close friend of mine was diagnosed, the Crown Princess told me when she opened the 30-year anniversary of the Child Diabetes Foundation.
- The Crown Princess has been the Foundation's patron since 1993, and in her speech, the Crown Princess highlighted the importance of research done in type 1 diabetes in order to prevent, cure or alleviate type 1 diabetes in children and young people, the court's information officer Ulrika Näsholm says in an email.

Carl Fredrik Graf started as the governor of Östergötland County in September 2018. He hosted Victoria's visit yesterday and published photos at his social media:
"Östergötland has been visited by Crown Princess Victoria. Swedish Plastic Recycling in Motala showed its plant which is at the forefront of its recycling work. The Child Diabetes Foundation conducted interesting seminars on the occasion of its 30th anniversary. It felt extra fun for me to get to know our dedicated and knowledgeable crown princess a bit more. Now we hope for a new visit and then gladly together with the Duchess of Östergötland Princess Estelle."

Thanks so much to H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria, who opened the Child Diabetes Foundation's 30th anniversary and scientific symposium yesterday (17/10) with her fine brand talk about the problems of living with type 1 diabetes for participants and visitors. In honor of the day, H.R.H. The Crown Princess also has a blue knot on her left arm.

The Child Diabetes Foundation celebrates its 30th anniversary and launches #BlueKnot as a symbol of the fight to defeat type 1 diabetes. 900 children and as many adults fall ill every year in Sweden and there is still no cure. The campaign is the start of a long-term effort to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes and the need for more research.

The royal court tells at its website at the article of the king and Victoria at the enthronement:
On Monday, the Crown Princess visited the staff at the Swedish embassy in Tokyo. There were also staff from Business Sweden and the Chamber of Commerce. The Crown Princess then went on a cultural-historical walk around the Imperial Palace. The palace has been the emperor's resident since 1868, before which Kyoto was the imperial capital for more than 1,000 years.

Victoria gives tomorrow a speech at "Har vi plats för plast i en hållbar framtid?" seminar at Finlandsinstitutet.

We humans get microplastics equivalent to one credit card a week, according to a research report by the World Nature Fund WWF. Researchers believe that in the near future we have more plastic than fish in our oceans.
In both Sweden and Finland, there are strategies to reduce the problems of plastic waste. Finland has developed a roadmap for a sustainable plastic economy, while the Swedish government states in the government declaration that the marine environment must be strengthened and the spread of microplastics is combated. A state investigation in Sweden last year presented a report with proposals for sustainable plastic use.
From Sweden Isabella Lövin, the Minister for Environment and Climate, and Deputy Prime Minister, speaks also at the seminar. And from Finland Krista Mikkonen, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, speaks at the seminar.

The Crown Princess at a sustainability seminar at the Finnish Institute
On Monday, December 2, the Crown Princess attended the seminar Do we have room for plastic in a sustainable future? at Finlandsinstitutet in Stockholm.
Upon arriving, the Crown Princess was received by Anders Eriksson, Director of the Institute and Tove Ahlström, CEO of Global Challenge.
Then the Crown Princess began with a speech in which she said:
“Maybe you are the one who will decide on a new treatment plant for many billions of swedish kronas. Maybe you should design a new packaging for your company's best-selling product. Or do you just decide what to do with the kids' old toys - sell, donate or recycle?
No matter what, you are a decision maker. Your choices - both the ones you make and the ones you refrain from making - they matter. Today and for a long time to come. "

Finlandsinstitutet at its Twitter
"H.R.H. The Crown Princess begins the seminar by quoting Tove Jansson as well as highlighting our neighboring countries' history, friendships and nature. "We Swedes and Finns understand each other by nature"."
https://twitter.com/Finlandsinst/sta...74103582056448

Finnish newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet:
Crown Princess Victoria became interested in plastic turmoil in Sweden and Finland
The Crown Princess felt that each of us is a decision-maker about her or his life with the plastic. The sustainability experts were not completely in agreement.
Otso Sillanaukee, a Aalto student, is passionate about rubbish. He has established himself as a champion for zero waste and shows on the big screen a small jam jar of glass with all the recyclable waste he had personally produced for a year.
"Most of it was plastic", he says of the garbage dominated by tablet packaging for medicine.
He shows his minimal number of gadgets in his bathroom. And the deodorant he himself mixes of coconut fat, baking powder, potato starch and a little salt.
- But I had never in my wildest dreams imagined that one day I would present my deodorant to the Crown Princess of Sweden! he laughs in front of a crowded banquet hall at the Finnish Institute at Birger Jarlsgatan in Stockholm.
Crown Princess Victoria sits on the front row. She was present on Monday at a seminar on plastic and environment in Finland and Sweden that the institute arranged. Also in place were both countries' environmental ministers, Krista Mikkonen from Finland and Isabella Lövin from Sweden, from each green party.
"Everyone is a decision maker"
However, everything about the plastic crisis in the world does not depend on the ministers who sat on the front row of her company, but on each of us, said the Crown Princess.
- Maybe you are the one who will decide on a new treatment plant for many billions of kronor. Maybe you should design a new packaging for your company's best-selling product. Or do you just decide what to do with the kids' old toys - sell, donate or recycle? No matter which one you are a decision maker, she said.
In her speech, Victoria saw the strongest link between Finland and Sweden in nature. The Swedes understand what Tove Jansson means when the Baltic Sea can glitter an early, very warm morning in July, and the Finns know how the shadows fall in Astrid Lindgren's robber forests, she formulated.
