Joint seminar and policy dialogue on climate action and the SDGs
Stockholm Environment Institute and the New Zealand Embassy in Sweden are proud to host a very special guest, Ms Helen Clark, on her visit to Sweden. Ms Clark was the Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1998 to 2008 and was the first woman to lead the United Nations Development Programme between 2009 and 2017.
On 1 April, Ms Helen Clark and Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation Peter Eriksson will participate in a joint seminar and policy dialogue on raising the level of ambition on climate action and how these efforts can go hand-in-hand with implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Crown Princess at a seminar for the climate
The climate is on the Crown Princess Victoria's schedule for Monday. She participates a meeting to discuss climate work with, among others, Helen Clark, New Zealand's former prime minister.
During the meeting of two and a half hours, the important issue of the future of the earth should be discussed. Among other things, it is about how to achieve the goal of the Paris Agreement with a maximum warming of 2 degrees. The question of how countries should support each other in the climate work will also be raised.
- The Crown Princess will be there and listen and gather information, says Margareta Thorgren.
The Crown Princess is often seen in contexts where the climate is on the agenda.
According to Margareta Thorgren, the environmental interest is something that the crown princess shares with her father, King Carl Gustaf.
- The king together with the Crown Princess has it in common. The King since the 70's and that is something that Crown Princess Victoria will pass on. She is also one of the UN's ambassadors for Agenda 2030, says Margareta Thorgren.

Baltic Sea research takes central place at Skansen
Skansen's new knowledge center on the Baltic Sea, the Baltic Sea Science Center (BSSC), has been opened. Today, April 11, Crown Princess Victoria inaugurated the new five-storey house, where researchers at Stockholm University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences have a central role in increasing the knowledge of the Baltic Sea's challenges - and arouse the desire to do something about them.
Crown Princess Victoria began her opening speech by reminding of the Skansen's creator Artur Hazelius motto: "Know yourself."
- This knowledge center is about the Baltic Sea, but basically it is also about ourselves - about our future and our responsibility for an environment that we are completely dependent on.
The Crown Princess has long had a great commitment to the Baltic Sea. During her own tour at the Center earlier on Thursday afternoon, she took an impression of how the BSSC exhibition combines the knowledge of the Baltic with explanations of what we can do to help the Baltic Sea recover.

The court about today's inauguration
On Thursday, April 11, the Crown Princess attended the inauguration of the Baltic Sea Science Center at Skansen in Stockholm.
The Crown Princess initiated the opening ceremony with a presentation of the Center. The Crown Princess was welcomed by Anna Björn, Head of Unit at Skansen's Zoological Department and head of the Baltic Sea Science Center, who began by showing the center's aquariums.
Then the Crown Princess visited the exhibition "Land och hav" which shows how man and the sea influence and are dependent on each other.
The opening ceremony was held on the center's terrace and began with John Brattmyr, ceo of Skansen, greeting everyone welcome. Then Björn Carlsson told about how he started the BalticSea2020 foundation and his commitment to the Baltic Sea.
In her opening speech, the Crown Princess said:
This knowledge center is about the Baltic Sea; about life under the surface of our unique inland sea. But basically, it is just as much about ourselves: about our history, our future and our responsibility for an environment that we are completely dependent on. Just as we are dependent on the Baltic Sea, the Baltic Sea is dependent on us.
The Crown Princess then opened the doors with Björn Carlsson.

Victoria attends on 2nd May at the seminar "Challenges and opportunities related to a new climate economy: driving innovation for sustainable development" in the Academy of Athens in Athens.

Johan Kuylenstierna, The vice chair of Swedish Climate Policy Council, and Adjunct Professor at Stockholm University and the former ceo of Stockholm Environment Institute, was interviewed in Expressen
Reporter: Another woman you have got help fom is the Crown Princess. In what way will she be helpful here in Athens in the future?
Kuylenstierna: We have invited the Crown Princess to attend a conference that we will be holding on May 2 in Greece. It is a collaboration Stockholm University has together with the Academy of Athens and a company called Temes which works a lot with tourism in Greece. There, we have intended to highlight how the transition in various ways can positively contribute to the development in the region. This is a region that has fantastic conditions for, for example, developing solar energy, but also wind, thus becoming part of this battery that Europe needs for conversion if we are to remove from coal and oil and so on, so we must have other energy sources. Southern Europe basically has a fantastic potential to contribute with this. We then invited the Crown Princess and we are incredibly honored that she has accepted to come along and join this conference where we will then have different actors from the region who will present a number of different perspectives on the transition.
Kuylenstierna: It has a great effect that the Crown Princess chooses to attend our climate meetings and she puts pressure on the other participants to deliver when she makes a lot of notes and asks questions.

Book on Friday 12th July for a day in Mörbylånga. The court has done that!
It is about the inauguration of the new water treatment plant in Mörbylånga.
- We are happy to announce that H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria has accepted to attend the opening ceremony of the water treatment plant, says Ann Willsund, City Director.
The water crisis has hit hard against Öland and Mörbylånga municipality.
The new water treatment plant in Mörbylånga should be able to desalinate water from Kalmarsund, but also clean water from the local industries.

Victoria's important day touched her on a personal level
Given that the royal family saw their grandmother suffer from Alzheimer's disease, it is guessed that the Brain Day is an important day for Victoria.
Each year, the Brain Foundation organizes the theme day Brain Day to draw attention to and spread knowledge about brain research. Since the Crown Princess is the patron of the Brain Foundation, she was obviously in place during the day.
One of the topics that was the focus of the Brain Day was various dementia diseases. Given that mother Silvia's heart issue is to promote the research on dementia diseases, the commitment has probably been passed on to Victoria. The royal family got close to seeing how the Queen's mother Alice Sommerlath suffered from Alzheimer's disease, and it made especially Silvia to get involved in the issue.

At court website
As an ambassador for the UN's global sustainable development goals, the Crown Princess has a great commitment to sustainable development. The President of Greece Prokopios Pavlopoulos held the opening speech and after that was discussed how countries can achieve economic development while addressing the risks that climate change brings.
The seminar was arranged by Stockholm University, the Academy of Athens and the Greek company Temes. For ten years, they have collaborated and exchanged knowledge at the research station "Navarino Environmental Observatory" located in the Kalamata area in Greece. There, researchers and students are investigating air, water and land changes in the Mediterranean's sensitive climate.
During the morning, the Crown Princess visited Agora to see how the water supply functioned in ancient Greece.

The court at its website about Victoria's trip to Bergen
On Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 15, the Crown Princess visited Bergen, Norway, and attended a meeting around SeaBOS.
The Crown Princess began the meeting in Bergen by saying:
"Ladies and gentlemen. The keystone actor model is breaking new ground. And the global seafood industry now has a unique opportunity, to become a role model for other sectors that want to make the shift to sustainability."
During the two days, representatives from the world's ten largest fish and shellfish companies and experts in the field participated.
SeaBOS aims to make the world's fishing more sustainable. The work meeting in Bergen discussed issues such as IUU Fishing (Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated), plastic in the seas, use of antibiotics and planning for coming Keystone Dialogues which takes place during the autumn.

Victoria's speech (in english) on Tuesday, in which she said among other things:
Today, King Harald of Norway – my godfather – reigns from Oslo. But looking out at the majestic North Sea, it is easy to understand why this was once the home of Norway’s kings. And why it is still the capital of Norway’s aquaculture and fishing industry – as well as a centre for the shipping, oil, and tourism industries.
Indeed, Bergen depends on the sea for its livelihood. But then again, don’t we all?
Ladies and gentlemen. It has been two and a half years since I had the pleasure to participate in the first Keystone Dialogue, in November 2016. In the Maldives, you made me very happy by demonstrating your willingness to take on the challenge of ocean stewardship.
Since then, we have met again in May 2017 and September of 2018 for continued dialogue and progress.
I have seen SeaBOS develop and mature, with increasing abilities and confidence to act. Increasing global recognition of SeaBOS is mirrored by growing expectations on all of you.
Ladies and gentlemen:
The Ocean needs you.
The world is watching.
It’s time to show results.
