This was an important event for Victoria and because of that special and she attended. Right now her calendar is empty until 29th April to the King's 70th birthday celebrations. Victoria probably attends at the Council of State meeting where the king tells the name of Carl Philip's baby, and at the Te Deum for the baby. She will probably have some work events before the summer holiday like she had when Estelle was a baby.

The Swedes update the calendar as they go along. Events will be added as time goes. Victoria will likely also be added to some of the events, depending on how she is feeling and how Oscar is. Like the WWF event, she isn't listed yet, but she often attends these with her father. Its understandable that they aren't committing too far in advance to her being at any event and then her having to withdraw.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon praised and thanked the royal family in his lecture:
"I am also grateful for the efforts of Sweden’s Royal Family. King Carl XVI Gustaf is a champion of climate action; Queen Silvia is an advocate of children’s rights; and I am especially pleased that Crown Princess Victoria has just agreed to be one of our Sustainable Development Goal Advocates -- and I welcome her enthusiastic engagement".
Ban Ki-moon thanked also Folke Bernadotte:
"Swedes continue to support UN efforts to prevent and resolve conflicts through mediation and other peaceful means, continuing the noble tradition of Folke Bernadotte, Gunnar Jarring, Olof Rydbeck and Olof Palme"
And he thanked Sweden for many things:
United Nations News Centre - Remarks at Dag Hammarskjöld lecture_ “Evolving Threats, Timeless Values_ The United Nations In A Changing Global Landscape”

Swedish Dag Hammarskjöld (1905-1961) was the Secretary-General of the UN. On the night of 17-18 September 1961, in the course of a UN mission to try to bring peace to the Congo, Hammarskjöld’s plane crashed near Ndola airport in the British protectorate of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). All the 16 passengers and crew died. At the end of the year, Dag Hammarskjöld was posthumously awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts "to create peace and goodwill among nations and men."
The Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture is given in memory of Dag Hammarskjöld, and in recognition of the values that inspired him personally and as Secretary-General – compassion, humanism and commitment to international solidarity and cooperation. The invited speaker should be an outstanding international personality who in significant and innovative ways contributes to a more just, peaceful and environmentally sustainable world through valuable achievements in politics or research.
The Annual Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture is co-organised by Uppsala University and the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation. The first lecture was held in 1998.

So wonderful pics. She looks a bit tired, if you ask me. But it must have been a very important event for her, that she decided to join.

It must have been very important for her to attend. Hope she can bond with her new baby now for a few more weeks. Those early weeks are a very special time you can never get back.

Swedish journalist Matilda Andersson at her column in Aftonbladet yesterday about Victoria at the lecture of Ban Ki-moon:

I want to see more dead tired princesses
Crown Princess Victoria made her first official mission last week - less than a month after giving birth. Most mothers are on maternity leave longer than that (but most of us have also another type of job).
Some newspapers chose to focus on the Crown Princess' golden coat while others angled a short video sequence where the Crown Princess sits in the audience and keeps on falling asleep. Aftonbladet belongs to the latter. A clip titled "Struggling - to stay awake" and three pictures of a very tired crown princess, however, got some readers very angry.
The comments on Facebook: "Poor style to show her like this," "What a mother is not tired during the day. Low". " Typically Aftonbladet, so damn low of you to publish this. Besides that she is royalty, she is human, treat her like that". The inserts got lots of like markers and reporter (read: yours truly) got the fewer.
For me the angle was clear - to show the beauty of that the Crown Princess is like any young mother: completely dead tired. That for once see something real and not just a signature hairstyle with gold-colored gown. For those of you who didn't know: it's not only really hard to be recently given birth mother while trying to glow - it's also quite unnatural.

Although royal media coverage is different from the rest - nobody is questioning the absurdity of spending hours on speculation about whether Princess Sofia will make a Kate Middleton and self showcace the newborn "absolutely brilliant fresh" - so is the idea of perfection around expectant princess mothers hand in hand with other media reporting related to pregnancy and childbirth.
Headings such as "so she lost her pregnancy kilos" and "The mother retains her six-pack, even though she is pregnant" easily win over the content that is about pelvic pain, severe mood swings, fatigue, hemorrhoids and brutal tiredness. No wonder that parts of the society believe that a pregnant woman is able to perform as usual for nine months until the D-day - and then quickly return to their usual themselves.
That was precisely why it was so liberating to see how the Crown Princess repeatedly failed to keep her eyes open. Not even she, despite the blue blood and diamonds in the ears escapes the sleep deficiency of the baby time - and that it is okay to show it.

I see her point and hope Victoria wasn't mortified by the photos because she made the attempt to be there even though dog tired! She really is a modern day princess.

Crown Princess Victoria, Current Events Part 10: October 2014 -

If she is mortified by the pictures she has no reason to be at all. The Swedes love and respect her tremendously and this will probably endear her to people even more. Firstly, falling asleep as soon as you don't have your baby in your arms is something every parent to a newborn can recognise and secondly it does prove that it's Victoria that's on baby watch at night and not a nanny.

I agree. I had to chuckle at her "caught" look. Let's be honest: she has just given birth, (less that motnth), psychological as well as physical changing are happening, she has a neborn who most likely will make her and Daniel sleepless, plus an energetic litle girl at home. Add to this a warm room with some quiet lecturing and napping comes so easily.

The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs published yesterday an article about Victoria's work as one of the Advocates to promote the Sustainable Development Goals.
The article has statements from Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Margot Wallström.

Global Commitment: Crown Princess Victoria
From the article:
Crisis and conflict management and international peace support operations, including in the UN, are some of the issues that particularly engage Crown Princess Victoria. She has, for instance, been a patron of the Church of Sweden’s international work for more than 15 years.
In her engagement she draws inspiration from figures including her relative Folke Bernadotte:
“Conflicts and wars inflict wounds. They engrave antagonisms into people’s memories and hearts, and those antagonisms persist down several generations.
Working for peace means acknowledging those wounds. Being aware of the history behind the conflict, but having the strength and the wisdom to rise above it for the sake of reconciliation and the future. Folke Bernadotte was the UN’s first mediator. He is one of our foremost role models in the Swedish tradition of working for peace.”
