I noticed there are many British royals and I found it quite fun to look at the name. I was thinking it would be cute to make a list of these names
Xan WindsorHubertus Michael, Hereditary Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha HH Princess Ragnhild yes I probably do have too much time on my hands, but that cause I should really be doing hw. ![]() |

Zenouska has to be about the worst. That's Mowatt for the uninformed. What were they thinking. How about Dweezil and Moon Unit as siblings.
Being Norwegian, Ragnhild isn't too bad to me. |

I agree, Zenouska is terrible. It's supposed to sound/look Russian, but it's not an authentic Russian name. By the way, how is Ragnhild pronounced?

I'm with you guys on Zenouska. It sounds like an unpleasant bean dish, not the grandaughter of a Princess.
Hubertus is a German name, nothing wrong with that. Xan is really...untraditional. I'd hoped the Ulsters would name him Henry instead. I must admit, there are no ROYAL names I dislike, since Xan and Zenouska aren't really royal.

Xan & Zenouska might be untraditional but so is Zara & Eugenie is just plain old fashioned.

I always thought Ragnhild was a pretty name, even if to my American ears it's very unusual! Zenouska on the other hand made me cringe. Marina was not naming some trendy hollow eyed supermodel she was naming a member of the extended Royal family of Britain! The name Alexandra is a beautiful and elegant name but I realize that Marina was estranged from her mother at the time, so that's why she didn't give her baby that name. But her own name..."Marina" is beautiful too! Anything better than ZENOUSKA! I don't like either of the names Friso and Mabel of the Netherlands chose for their daughters, particularly "Luana"....it doesn't sound noble or pretty at all in my opinion! Zaria is an odd name as well. I wish they'd called their daughters by their first names. Emma and Joanna are much prettier.
I like Beatrice and Eugenie. Whatever people may say about them being old-fashioned, they are historic names in the BRF. With a name like Fergie, you'd expect crazy names for the York girls, but they went traditional, and I like that. Similar with Louise and James, William and Henry and Peter (thought not Zara). I was delighted when I heard that Lord and Lady Nicholas Windsor named their son Albert. I like royals with traditional names. Ariane is a "new" name, but it as least SOUNDS royal, unlike Zaria.

I don't like the name Mabel. I'm not sure how the Dutch pronounce it but even written it looks plan, old-fashion, and unremarkable.

Which is interesting because she is the direct opposite of your, and perhaps others, definition. God Bless Mabel for she is never boring and always entertaing without her having to utter a single word! ![]() ![]() I don't mind the name Mabel, although I always think of the words table or fable or cable, when I hear her name, but I will say that I am not a fan of the name Lauartien (sp?) simply because it sounds like Carentan and if I miss pronounce it the name sounds like canteen.

I like the name Ragnhild. I have a friend from Norway who named Ragnhild. when she came to Russia my parents found it not easy to pronounce her name, so they called her Raisa ( there is this name in russian).
![]() I think Ragnhild has the next pronounciation: ['Ran-hil]

With the name Mabel I usually have to think of the kitchenhelp in the comedy 'You Rang M'Lord?'.
The most unfortunate name for the Dutch princesses must be Anita btw, in the Netherlands people use that name to refer to white female trash (in Flanders they use the name Marina for that btw).

Honestly, Sverre Magnus is one name I would nominate. The names separately aren't bad, and I love them - interesting, historical, royal, etc - but there's something about the combination that jars me as a Norwegian speaker. There should be a flow with double names, that I don't feel comes with this name.
I'm another one who likes the name Ragnhild. (For anyone interested in the pronunciation of the Norwegian royal names: http://norwegianne.net/543.aif) I found it fascinating that when she was living in the US during the war, the Americans couldn't pronounce her name, so she became Running Hill ![]()
