Default Do you have roots in aristocracy ?

So do I, but I do not know the exact track...

That would probably need some expensive genealogical study !

My grand mother's cousin used to do advanced genealogical studies and once told me we descend from the Duc de la Barre, France, and also from a beautiful aristocratic Spanish lady on the other side. But nothing clear

I am happy of these roots because I share the moral values of aristocracy

And you ?

Two of my grandparents are descendants of royalty. The first from England and the second from Hannover....

So far, I've traced my lines to the current Queen and to many others. There's a great resource in ancestry.com!

In my family are rumors of a relation to a regional baronial house. Now I am doing genealogy to prove or disprove the rumors. But my biggest wishes are that the rumors are true.

My grandparent was a count from a small region in Lugo, Spain. My grandparent gave up his title, to marry my gradmother and move to Cuba. Where my father was born. This was at the begining of the 20th Century around 1919 and 1922, thus there were still some hostility about marrying a commoner. I admire my grandfather, he gave up everything for love and the die toguether of old age.

yes, the same my grandfather, he was a count in denmark and even i can see with google earth the castle where they were living his parents and he gave up everything to marry my grandmother she was the governest of the house, today wouldn't be neccesary, they went first to england and after to argentina and my greatgranparents have 18 kids! can you imagine today with so many kids????i suppose it was a brave thing that he did,to decide to loose his title and his fortune but after they have to live with not much money, and i think it was a period that they live very poor...

I would hope so much that I was but I don't think there is and would have no idea how to find out.

But My great grandfather and his brother owned a "castle" but it is more like a large manor home in the village where I grew up. My grandfather was born and had servants etc but is father was a gambling man and eventually the estate was lost. But I am thankful because if he had grown up and not lost it then he would not have met by grandmother and would not have had my mother and eventually me. Strange how the world works

Honestly, I have no idea. My long lost descendants were probably warriors and thieves.

To be descended from royalty is nothing uncommon. Infact, it's very common so theres no doubt that a great many on this forum alone, would boast such ancestry and not even know.

My maternal grandmother was born into 'pedigree' so it's fortunate that her ancestry is already well documented.

My maternal grandfather was a serviceman who himself came from 'new money' and as for my paternal grandparents...probably carpenters and nurses, blacksmiths and flower ladies which is, in my eyes, just as fascinating.

So, for those who do have roots, have you done anything about it? Have you tried to contact anyone in the family to say I've discovered I'm related and would like to know more about my history.

Well, on my mother's side I'm descended from a von Otto and a von Puttkamer (and possible a von Mech). On my father's side I'm descended from a Brandenberg. I remember my paternal grandmother showing us a picture of the Crown Regalia of England and telling us we were related to it. I also found a Schloss Goetz for sale in Geermany (my paternal grandmother was born a Goetz/Gotz).
As for researching it, my maternal grandmother did alot of research but didn't get very far back into the tree. Not much was found about my maternal grandfather's side. My paternal grandmother never really talked about family geneology. In fact whenever my mom and grandfather got talking about it, my grandmother would leave the room at which point my grandfather would say something like "Be careful. You might not like what you find out." There are records at the old homestead, but they belong to a distant relative who wasn't very accomodating when requests were made to see the records in the past.

My grandmpother came from the Russian noble family- she died few years ago and untill the end she was a fantastic woman- with so high internal education- always sat as a balerine- with a streight back, always used special rules how to serve tea and so on- and people who met her understood immidiately that she has a noble blood. The story of the family is sad- she had to start work very early, (after the revolution of 1917 they lost home, lost money, lost everything..) I am so sorry that I didn't ask her so many things... now I only have old photos and don't know who are there...

I wish it could be that easy. How would you suggest getting in touch with a royal family member when they are off limits to the " commoners ". I would love to write a letter or e-mail someone but I dont see how. If you or anyone out there has an idea on how to do that, let me know, I would contact them immediately!

Um, I think it could be as simple as writing a well-penned letter to the palace. From what I've read in other threads, it's not difficult to find the appropriate address. I'm sure if you included some form of proof, you would not be turned away. Especially if you stress that you just want to learn more (ie not get a piece of the inheritance).

That is incredible! Pardon my ignorance, I just had no idea it would actually be possible. I have thought about it for years but got discouraged after being told it was a silly idea and a waste of time. I appreciate the information and I will try. Lets see what happens! Thank you, thank you.
