I'm curious about the relationships between Royals from different families meeting for the first time & how they get on. I'm not just meaning on official state visits but other functions too. So to give some examples: Princess Diana & Princess Caroline - I can remember there was a banquet (in France?) which both attended - was this their first meeting? Did they get along? Similarly, both Princess Madeleine & Princess Charlotte have spent time in England did/do they socialise with any British Royals. ( Has Charlotte met William or Harry yet?) When Royals holiday in each others countries are there examples of them getting in touch? I know for example Charles & Di spent time with King Carlos & Queen Sofia, but are there members of other families that spend time together? Also, are there some who don't hit it off? I seem to remember reading somewhere that Princess Margaret wasn't on best terms with everyone.

Mary & Frederik spent a weekend in Norway with Haakon & MM soon after Christian's birth (I think it was).
Maxima & WA spent some holiday time with one of the Spanish Infantas (and I'm sorry I should remember which one but at the moment I dont) - BUT there is a thread for it somewhere, also check out royals.web-log.nl for the odd picture or 2

Do Royals Sing Happy Birthday?

Or is this the official happy birthday song in Denmark?

Mukhtars Fødselsdag - Flash Mob - Bedre Bustur - YouTube

I just thought that it was a beautiful song. And I wanted to play it. However, I couldnt find the chords to it. Anybody here, that knows the name of it or could link the chords?

I will post a vid once I recorded the song. I dont know any danish. But thought I would learn the lyrics just for the heck of it.

Cheers!!

I thought they just whacked the birthday boy or girl with polo mallets.

No, no, we drink a lot of booze, then we try to remember who among us is having a birthday.

You can also play that game alone, but that requires more schnapps.

The handles are too long.

I see, is that a problem due to
a) Too big hands?
b) Lack of sufficient motor skills?
c) Unable to comprehend how to use a glass?
d) Because glasses are impractical when spending most of your life lying on the floor?
e) Because the bartender has always served your drinks in a trough?
f) Because you use your knuckles for support and thus is unable to use a glass?
g) Or?

(There is a possibillity this is banter).

Princess Patricia of Connaught's Coronet For Sale?

Apologies if this is out of place, but googling led me here.

My wife was looking online at estate sales in Los Angeles, and came across a coronet to be sold at an estate sale this weekend (4/4/2014). It looks like they're selling Princess Patricia of Connaught's coronet. Per <this thread>, her sister's (Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden) coronet is in a Swedish museum, and Patricia's is missing.

Images originally from <this estate sale>

I don't know anything about the authenticity of anything there, nor do I have any particular knowledge/interest in this topic, but the based on depth and breadth of the items sale (fine art, furnishings, etc) it seems someone definitely had some connection to the family. The address for the sale isn't released yet, but when done so, the owner could be looked up via public records.

I would have thought something like a coronet would be property of the state (and therefore not eligible for sale). Even if that's not the case, perhaps some representative from the UK should make a quick trip out to LA with cash in hand ;)

Amazing how people end up with treasures like this that rightfully belong to others. I find it appalling and in bad taste. So much history that someone else acquired and is now being sold at auction. Disgusting.

I'd write to the museum where Crown Princess Margaret's is and tell them what you've found.

i tweeted them, but no response. i only looked into this briefly, but, unlike her sister, patricia has no direct connection to the swedes, so maybe they aren't interested.

Hereditary Offices

I would like to ask the Forum members - if anybody knows about hereditary offices in current monarchies in Europe - outside United Kingdom (I know about "hereditary"-elected lords, 2 hereditary Great State Officers and a lot of different officers all around the Kingdom).
I wonder if there are such offices or functions outside UK?
Thank you very much in advance for any information.

Why Was Charles Brandon Loved by Henry?

What was it about Charles Brandon that made even Henry unable to either kill him or permanently banish him from court? Brandon wasn't banished from court only once, it was more then that Im told. And I'm also told that hes the "only" supposed friend that remained by Henry's side.

So what was it? were they brothers? I know they're both not legit brothers but like did henry consider him a brother?

For starters he was handsome, rakish, macho, women fell for him in a big way much like they did Henry as a young man. Henry saw himself in Brandon, and loved him like a brother and boon companion.

Henry's favorite sister Mary was also passionately in love with him. So even though Henry was furious that Brandon had in effect committed treason by marrying Mary Tudor behind Henry's back, Henry was unable to retaliate due to his affection for both of them.

Charles befriended Harry before Harry became the Heir. Second, Charles' father had fought for Henry VII at Bosworth and died, so in return Henry VII raised Charles as his ward at the royal court. They bonded early and Charles showed his loyalty was to Harry time and time again, no matter what he was asked to do.

I did a search for it on FaceBook, but nothing came up!

I apologoze. Back in June I had to change the privacy setting to Secret because we kept getting a lot of nutcase, idiots, anti Monarchist, Spammers, Ads, et,. So in September I decided to change it back to Close but Apparently after 250 members I can can change the setting from close to secret but i van not reverse it back to close!

It a stupid rule and I think it need to be changed. It still up but you need to know someone who in the group.

It was a combination of things. A previous poster mentioned that they were friends before Henry became heir... Since he was Henry's friend and not Arthur's, I'm sure that was important to him. He looked up to Brandon, as he was older, and then as Henry grew up Brandon used it to his advantage, letting Henry win but still being a good opponent. Charles Brandon knew how to be a courtier.

Children of the reigning Queens and Paternal families...

Specifically Did the Danish Sons have a close relationship with Henriks Family, Did the Dutch Princes with their fathers people and so on? I know Phillips mother lived at the Palace for a time and got on well with the children.

Royal Blog with White Flag

Hello. On the Royal Blog small flags are put near the headlines reflecting the country associated with the blog news. Today there is a modern German flag and a white flag with a black diagonal stripe. What country is associated with the white flag?

Thanks.

I think Prince Charles likes a deep aubergine, closely followed up by ....no, he'll stick with that.

May be asking for trouble getting into 'is it really their favorite' in another thread. Its a bit up in the air if any of this is true, for never sure anyone actually asked a royal, or making assumptions on what color they seem to like more often who knows but:

Elizabeth is said to love blue

Revealed: Why blue is the Queen's favourite colour... and why she doesn't like beige | Daily Mail Online

But like the comments on Diana, seem based on what color she wears most.

Princess Charlotte's (little surprise for a girl her age) has been confirmed pink.

Princess Charlotte's Favorite Color Is Pink | PEOPLE.com

Kate has said that she doesn't have a favorite color, but if she had to choose it would be white?

9. She wears lots of colors, but really likes white.
Kate claims she doesn't really have a favorite color — but if she had to decide, it would be white.

Things You Never Knew About Kate Middleton - Kate Middleton Facts

William seems to have revealed on a talk show some of his favorites

While on BBC Children's program he did say he preferred Blue, he gave his list of favorite things.

Favorite Food Banana Flan
Favorite Movie Italian Job
Favorite Novel Fledgling Jason Steed
Favorite TV show Top Gear
Favorite Color Blue
Favorite Soccer team Aston Villa

Harry is said to love orange. But considering the article claims it is because of his hair, taken with a cruise ship full of salt.

Crown Chronicles

Good morning from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA!

I have lived in this gloriously beautiful mountain ski resort near Yellowstone National Park for 15 years. Prior to moving here, I lived in Los Angeles and spent a good deal of time in London. How I loved London when it was perhaps the greatest walking city in the world: safe, manageable on foot, and overflowing with history and tradition -- to say nothing of having great shopping!

A history buff my whole life and the daughter of a history professor, my principal interests have been English and American history. Along with admittedly millions of others, I can trace my family genealogy back to Charlemagne and beyond, which has spurred a greater interest in French and Spanish history. I have successfully practiced interior design in Los Angeles and resort communities for a number of years.

I am interested in the opportunity to offer Crown Chronicles my historical interests and knowledge and excellent writing abilities on your behalf. Please let me know if you are interested in considering me.

Rudolph has posted the link to get in touch with Crown Chronicles if you're interested.

BTW: Anyone with any semblance of European ancestry probably can trace their ancestry back to Charlemagne. Its more unique to find out that you're *not* descended from him. :D
