- 12th March to 16th March, Australian Visit - Commonwealth Games - The Queen and Prince Philip will attend the opening on 15th March.
- 16th to 18th March - State Visit to Singapore, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
- 21st to 23rd March-Botswana President will pay a state visit to Sweden.
- Monaco, Rose Ball the whole royal family if possible
- 30th March to 1st April - Queen Beatrix will visit Argentina
- Norway - State visit to Switzerland

* April
- Celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday with a Reception for people from the UK who share the same birthday with Her Majesty, A Family Dinner on 21st April night, and a Special Thanksgiving Service at St George's Chapel on Sunday 23rd April.
- 30th, The Netherlands, The Queen's Day the whole royal family if possible
- 30th, Sweden King Carl XVI Gustaf birthday, an official celebration with flowers from the public, and a photo opportunity with the Royal Family. The king turns 60 maybe a big party with other royal houses invited.
- 12th April-Sovereign's Parade in Sandhurst - Prince Harry march in front of his grandmother and father as an Officer Cadet for the first time.

-24th to 26th May: Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik's State Visit to Greece.
- Chelsea Flower Show, members of the British Royal Family will attend

* June
- 12th and 13th June: Diamond Jubilee of the King of Thailand with Royals from other countries joining
- 15th June: National Thanksgiving Service for Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday at St Paul's Cathedral, followed by a Luncheon hosted by the Lord Mayor and the Coroperation of London at the Guildhall.
- 17th June: Trooping the Colour
- Royal Ascot again will held at Ascot, Berkshire.

It has been posted on the Scandanavia Royal Message Board that the Queen is planning to gather the "strange knights" that are European Monarchs for the Order of the Garter this June in celebrations of HM's 80th Birthday, it might be but still no confirmation yet.
I think the big gathering next would be for the King of Thailand's Diamond Jubilee in June with Royals go there included: the Emperor of Japan, the King and Queen of Sweden, Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima, Prince Henrik of Denmark, the Duke of York, Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands has a state visit to Turkey in January next year
I don't know whether any other state visits are taking place this year between reigning royal houses

- 11th: King Carl XVI Gustaf's Dinner for the Nobel Laureates, the whole Royal Family if possible
- 11th: The Nobel Prize Consert in Oslo Spektrum

- Christmas celebrations in Monaco, charity events including the whole Royal Family if possible
- Jordan Song Festival, King Abdullah and Queen Rania
- Christmas Service at Sandringham, the whole British Royal Family often attend
- Christmas Day - The Norwegian royals usually attend service in Holmenkollen kapell.

How do they decide where or who they are going to visit?

Events for the Norwegian Royals in 2008:

The Norwegian Royal Couple will visit Portugal in autumn.

They will recieve a State Visit from Irelnd.
(No Visit to or from another Royal Family).

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will visit Chile from January 23th to 26th.

King Harald and Queen Sonja will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary in August. (I cannot imagine they planned bigger celebrations for this)
