The dinner thing- why didn't it include the soverigns of Monaco or Liechtenstein? If she invited Henri of Luxembourg, who is not a king, but a grand duke, why did it not include the reigning princes of those Monaco and Liechtenstein?

Queen hosts Jubilee dinner for European royalty

The Queen has given a Golden Jubilee dinner party for European crowned heads.

Fifteen European Royals joined 15 British Royals at Windsor Castle for the Jubilee dinner.

With the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were the Prince of Wales, Duke of York, Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Royal and Commodore Timothy Laurence, Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Duke of Kent, Prince Michael of Kent and daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor, Princess Alexandra and Sir Angus Ogilvy.

European guests were Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, King Albert and Queen Paola of the Belgians, Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxembourg, and also the current Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.

There were no tiaras or royal insignia; the Queen wanted more of an informal occasion, although by any standards it was a special evening to mark her 50-year reign.

I think my favorite part of Her Majesty's Jubilee was a parade where a group of bikers rode by and saluted the Queen!! I thought that was priceless and so funny!

I really like this hat of Her Majesty but she ahs never worn it again just one time.

I read that the Gloucester ladies made a really bad fashion faux passe at the jubilee which didn't go down well with the Queen. Apparently all the Royal ladies had been instructed to wear either white/cream or the very palest of pastels and beige in order that the Queen (in bright jewel colours) would stand out from everyone else on her special day. I hadn't noticed this before but looking at the pictures the Gloucesters were indeed the only female members of the family who were in bright colours among the entire Royal Family in St. Paul's. It's even more noticeable in the balcony pictures where the only ladies shining like beacons are the Queen and the Duchess of Gloucester.

My guess is that the Duchess probably thought her suit was pale enough and Lady Rose in white jacket and hat may have underestimated the brightness of her red skirt. Lady Davina in bright Royal blue I can't account for.

Oh,i also did not notice that until you said,james.It's right that all the Royal Ladies: Princess Anne, Countess of Wessex, Zara Phillips, Princess Alexandra of Kent were all in cream or white outfits.Princess Michael and Princess Eugine were in blue, and Princess Beatrice in light pink,so that all of them in really light colour not bright at all, to "up" the colour of blue of The Queen at St Paul's Cathedral and the red/orange one on the Balcony.But The Duchess wore the colour green, it does not match with other Ladies and also seem like to be "up" like the colour of The Queen.

The Earl of Wessex received medals for attending the Silver and Golden Jubilees of his mother.

If you look carefully at pictures of William and Harry they too are wearing medals - the Golden Jubilee medal because they attended those celebrations.

Last year I attended church at the Queen's Chapel in London where some of the choir boys who featured in the Queen's Christmas Address sang and the older ones were also wearing that medal as they had sung at the service.

The Chapel is part of St James' Palace and is open to the public on most normal Sundays.

In order, the Honour and Awards being worn by HRH The Earl of Wessex in 2002 are: Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (suspended from the minature neck ribbon which you can just see), HM Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal 1977 (first from the left on the court mounted medal bar), HM Queen Elizabeth II Goldern Jubilee Medal 2002 and the New Zealand Commemorative Medal (commemoration 150 years in 1990, since the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi).
Jubilee medals are also awarded to people holding public offices, members of the public and emergency services, armed forces etc. Not all serving people recieve a Jubilee medal, and those that do, don't recieve them for just 'attending' (they're not sticky-taped to the order of service or anything).

In 2003, HRH The Earl of Wessex was promoted within the Royal Victorian Order from Commander, to Knight Commander (KCVO).

God Save the Queen

I had the privalege to be in London to watch the Jubilee celebrations and have many photographs of the Weekend including the state processions,

I also have an original order of service from St Paul's Cathedral which is very nice, it includes the ceremonial and the hymns, prayers etc.

I will try and put some of my Photographs on this Site but I am not sure if they will work, I will try later on this evening.

I don't think the 80th Bithday celebrations will be as large, they will be more on the scale of the 50th anniversary of the Coronation in 2003.

I remember the Jubilee well. I was still living at home and as our house was in a cul-de-sac, the neighbours all got together and put on a street party. We had a huge sound system and everyone was dancing with everybody else, we had tables with food and drink was flowing, we wheeled out the piano from our house and an old girl called Lily played the old songs on it and there were pictures of the Queen everywhere. Finally we had fireworks - just a fabulous time and a day I'll remember for a long time. It was real history in motion.

^Isn't it fun to revisit historical moments? It's the next best thing, I suppose, to hopping in a real time machine.
I think my favorite part of the golden jubilee was the party at the palace. Looking back on the photos now, it's funny to see Camilla there not as a member of the family, and the pics of her a couple of rows behind Charles remind me of the pics of Kate a few rows behind William at the concert for Diana. It's just funny to see how just a few years changes dynamics entirely.

BBC NEWS | Wales | Royal hat-trick as city celebrates

Sunday, 2 June 2002 ("Jubilee Sunday")
In advance of the main celebrations two days later, the Wales family attended a special service to mark the Jubilee @ the Church in St. Mary's Square in city centre of Swansea, Wales. Meanwhile, Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh attended the service at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, while services around the UK were held in HM's honor.

Her Majesty and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh rode in the Gold State Coach, while the rest of the principal members of the family rode in open carriages in following groups:
1) The Duke of York, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Princess Beatrice
2) The Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Eugenie
3) Peter and Zara Phillips

The Princess Royal rode on horseback in uniform as Colonel of the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals regiment.

The pictures in the following gallery don't show them, but I presume the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Kent also rode on horseback following the state coach, as colonels of their respective regiments.
