Queen Elizabeth II arrived in the former British colony of Singapore for a two-day state visit.
During her trip, the queen will meet President S.R. Nathan at the Istana palace -- Government House in colonial days -- and have lunch with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
She will stop at a war memorial, check out the national library and tour a public housing estate before winding up her visit on Saturday by awarding the winner's cup at the QEII horse race at the Singapore Turf Club.

The Queen has been so bright and cheerful on her recent state visits. I love it.

Queen Elizabeth inspects guard of honor at Singapore presidential palace
.................The queen was greeted by President S.R. Nathan, whose job is largely ceremonial. Military bands played both countries' national anthems as officers raised the blue flag of the Commonwealth, a loose confederation of countries once in the British empire. The queen wore a green jacket and dress, and a jade-green hat. A delegation of British and Singaporean officials attended the welcoming ceremony at the colonial-era building..................

Britain's Queen Elizabeth welcomed in Singapore library
.............At a library exhibition of photos by young people, she stopped to chat with student Alvina Tan, 18, who had taken one of the pictures on display. "I was surprised to find that the queen is actually a very friendly person," Tan said. "I felt very relaxed around her when she asked me about my picture. She feels just like a grandmother to me.".......................

The Queen Re-lives fond memories in Singapore
.................There Queen Elizabeth was greeted by Thomas Pung, who three decades ago had shown her around the one-bedroomed flat he shared with his mother in the housing estate. The excited 66-year-old pensioner called the meeting "the type of opportunity you cannot get", adding: "Even with money, you cannot buy this experience.".................
