Dare, kiss or promise? How Elizabeth II chose the last
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2006/04/15/do1502.xml A very good and thought-provoking article. An excerpt: "Can there ever have been anyone in public life with less desire to show off, bare her soul, win people's hearts or explain herself in any way?" I can't begin to describe how much I admire this lovely Queen.

That is really a very good article. A very truthful as well, imo.
Thanks for it.

I've posted this here as well as the Diana thread, because this BBC documentary to be screened tonight is about the queen leading up to her 80th birthday. However a big part of it discusses Diana and the lessons learned from her life as Princess.
Diana taught Royals 'a harsh lesson' THE Royal Family learnt a "very harsh lesson" following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, a former aide told a BBC documentary being screened tonight. ...The Queen At 80 looks back over the monarch's life, assessing both the impact of the Princess's death and 1992, the `Annus Horribilis'. The series followed the Queen on her daily duties, engagements and overseas tours over the past year in the run up to her 80th birthday, which she celebrates on Friday. http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/me...sh_lesson.html |

I do hope the press isn't going to use the Queen's 80th birthday as an excuse to just rabbit on about Diana. The Queen deserves better treatment from them than that.
