Queen gets in touch with her inner child

London - Harry Potter and Captain Hook will be hot on the trail of the queen's stolen handbag on Sunday at one of the most surreal garden parties ever staged at Buckingham Palace.

To celebrate her 80th birthday, Britain's Queen Elizabeth has invited 2 000 children to her London residence for a Mad Hatter's Tea Party with children's characters Winnie the Pooh and Paddington Bear joining forces with Thomas the Tank Engine.

That is a really nice picture of Sophie taking a picture (is it possible that boy is a nephew or realative).

I also like the one of the kid taking the picture of Prince Philip

and a few funny pics from the Garden Party. Winnie looks great. So does JKR :D

Ah to be a kid again.... or more specifically, a kid at the Queen's garden party this afternoon. :p It looks like so much fun!

It's too bad the Countess of Wessex didn't bring Lady Louise with her. I completely respect them for having her keep a low profile, but this would be such a cool event for a child her age.... maybe she'd meet a favourite character of hers.

The boy probably asked her to take a picture of him with ??? , they were all given disposable cameras. :)

QUEEN CELEBRATES WITH FAIRYTALE BIRTHDAY BASH

The Queen was surrounded by colourful characters on Sunday afternoon when she celebrated her 80th birthday with a huge garden party in Buckingham Palace. Her London home was transformed into a land of magic and fantasy as 2,000 lucky children from all around the UK were joined by a roll call of their favourite fictional characters.

Sophie looked like she had a blast! I'm guessing the little boy she was taking a picture of is a relative because it appears that she is using her own personal camera to do so. If you look at the camera she's using in post 481 and then the one she's using in 494 it looks like the same camera. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

The July issue of the Majesty magazine features the Queen at 80.

I have a copy of the Order of Service and The Ceremonial Programme from HM's 80th Birthday service in Saint Paul's Cathedral if anyone would like to see them just ask and I would be happy to scan and post them.

Good grief! That first photo in post 329 is just downright scary. What on earth is wrong with the Duchess? She doesn't look sane. I mean, it's an awful thing to say, but she just doesn't.

She has sacrificed her privacy to attend this momentous occassion. That is admirable.

I would really like to see it, RoyalProtocol. Please, scan it, if it's not difficult for you.

Thanks Purple for the additional pics. The younger generation is growing up fast! Lady Gabriella is gorgeous as always. Pss. Beatrice looks really pretty too (was Eugenie there?). Of course Wm and Harry are adorable (Wm gets more handsome with every picture, I think). Can anyone tell me if those were the Gloucester girls coming down the stairs? And was that Zenouska Moffat and her brother (both in black) lightly holding hands? I'm sorry but I must add that among all the outstanding looking royals there, Lady Sarah Chatto's unattractiveness was clearly noticeable. Poor thing.

They are indeed Lady Rose and Lady Davina with Lady Davina's husband. As for Zenouska Moffat - I believe you are referring to the Earl and Countess of Ulster? I have always found Lady Sarah Chatto to be a lady of poise and quiet dignity which I find immensely attractive.
Thanks for the beautiful photos.

Thanks a lot. Would be nice to know what her Majesty and her guest enjoyed! :D

Cruising through Britain

Queen Elizabeth II has chosen to celebrate her 80th birthday year not with a holiday in a far-flung corner of the globe or an exotic European palace, but on a relatively small cruise-ship sailing around the Scottish isles.
http://travel.iafrica.com/destin/europe/515980.htm

The Hebridean Princess isn't that small - I've been on it myself and it's a beautiful ship. I didn't find it small and I'm sure HM will have a great time.

I'm sure this is where she's really missing Britannia.

That was a horrid thing to do. To get rid of Britannia. The Princess is a lovely ship but it can't match the Britannia.
