Thanks everyone for the great pics. They were all great.
I loved the family pics, they all look so happy and relaxed. I especially like this picture.

I deeply admire the Queen for her poise and willpower - she's eighty, at an age where things become more and more difficult for people. And still she does her job, and she does it exceptionally well and with good grace. She deserves a wonderful birthday.

Prince William and Prince Harry really do resemble their grandfather, Prince Phillip and their cousin, Peter.

Some of them don't seem to me to be wearing seatbelts. I hope someone who can make the pictures bigger can tell me I'm wrong.

To mark the Queen's Birthday, the BBC invited readers to send in their personal photos of the Queen.

I thought this one of the young Princess Elizabeth was rather lovely:

Ernest Phillippe: "My late husband was a photographer in the Royal Navy. On the back of the picture is a stamp of the Royal Navy and the date 5 February 1946 HMS Excellent".

The rest of the pics can be found here.

You're welcome barber. :) I don't think many of us have seen this one before. Imagine the photos that regular people have taken of the Queen over the years that may be in someone's shoe box.

This one is really nice because it captures a young adult Elizabeth before she was married. I haven't seen many of those.

A very fitting tribute to the Queen's birthday, I think.

The thanksgiving service is beautiful. It's being broadcast live on BBC radio. No pictures yet but if you click on this link and go to BBC Radio 4, you'll be able to hear the service.

Thanks purple platinum. I posted the notice about Andrew and Edward receiving the order of the Garter in their own threads but didn't think to post it here.

The Queen is being quite generous on her birthday.
