I don't really follow the British royals but I really admire Her Majesty and she looked so lovely! The lime green hat is so nice :)

As an outsider looking in, I can understand both sides of the debate (Queen vs. an Australian Republic) but really...how can you not be exicted when a Queen shows up in your homeland :)
Its not Queen v's Australian Republic...It's not the Queen (personally) that many have issue with, its the system....they wont out...

Idiots of course

Dear Members,

At serious risk of being rude, impertinant and outright obnoxious, I wish you dear Aussies would just get over it. There was a referendum a few years back, as I recall, and guess what a majority-55% voted to retain the monarchy. So why do you keep on? You say it is an anachronism. Well we in the United States of America have an anachronism too. And it is called a republic. You have QEII and we have, horrors, GWB. We will have him for three more God awful years. Give me the Queen any day of the week. You could go to at least several dozen countries, where if the people were honest they would say the same thing. Count yourselves lucky, real lucky.

As for the system, well let's look. Has it really been so awful. Every single one of your monarchs since good Queen Victoria of blessed memory have at least been more or less decent. They haven't really mucked things up and have actually on more than one occassion helped things along nicely.

Can you say that about republics, I should say not. The American political system has turned out to be an honest to God horror, a combination of freak show and insane asylum. And the American people? Well I will not go there. As for that obscene political animal called the politician, I cannot say what I really think. I would be banned from this website for pornograhy-in the original meaning of the word.

So why don't you draw a long breath, play God Save the Queen, Advance Australia Fair (which it is) and Waltzing Matlida -You may play the latter any time you please, if you will just explain to me just what a Waltzing Matilda is. So relax and realize that you have one of the most successful and decent political systems in the world.
As we like to say in South Carolina in the Good (?) Ole US of A: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Cheers. Thomas Parkman

I saw the Queens plane land on sunrise. She looked so lovely and happy.

To Thomas Parkman
There's no such thing as a Waltzing Matilda. Waltzing Matilda is a poem writen by Banjo Paterson. Which is popular in Australia.

Hi Margrethe II

Well I dont consider myself an idiot because I'm a republican thank you very much! :)

Thomas Parkman:

Some Australians want an Australian as head of state. I'm sure you wouldn't want a non-American as your president that lives in another country far away right? But I'm not going to get into a republic v monarchy debate here because lets just concentrate on welcoming HM and wait after she has left the country to start debating...out of courtesy :)

Of course your not...

The comment was meant as friendly banter, Australian... don't get your republican underwear in a knot now :)

"MII"

P.S. that too was meant as harmless fun, just incase you thought otherwise.

Just please PM when you do.

The Queen looked great! I would love to be close to them just to hear what Prince Philip has to say.

HM the Queen & HRH the Duke of Edinburgh have attended a Parliamentary State dinner, held in Canberra.

The Honourable Prime Minister John Howard was host.

The royal entourage leaves for Melbourne tomorrow, mid morning.
