As I've heard the actual time of death of the Queen's father, George VI isn't actually known. He went to bed in the early evening of one day, and was found dead on the early morning of another. So on what day, hour or minute the Queen became Queen, isn't known exactly as well.

A doctor's advice is taken into account but I don't believe its one of the official positions.

I believe its the following or any three of the following. The wife or husband of the Sovereign, the Lord Chancellor, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Lord Chief justice of England, and the Master of the Rolls.

We know the date as he went to bed after midnight - so we know it was the 6th February. What we don't know exactly is the hour.

The point is that he didn't go to bed after midnight. He went to bed at about 9 PM.

He was seen by people around midnight.

If they had any doubts that he had been seen alive after midnight they wouldn't have been able to be so sure since 1952 that it was in the early hours of the 6th rather than the late evening of the 5th.

The CC clearly says 'the early hours of this morning' dated to the 6th February. Any decent doctor can tell within a short period of time when a person has died and that is how they pinpointed the time to around 1.30 - things like the state of rigour etc at the time that he was found.

I also had some friends, now sadly departed, who worked for the royals at the time and they have told me of speaking to staff who saw him after midnight - he was standing at the window and they were walking in the grounds (not my friends but other staff).

There has never been any doubt about the date - only the time - between midnight and 7.30 a.m. but the doctors have always gone with around the 1.00 - 2.00 a.m. given the state of the body at the time the doctors first saw it.

The Royal Mint has produced its first ever £50 coin which also has a face value for the same amount.

The fine silver coin has been launched to celebrate the year that the Queen became the nation's longest-reigning monarch.

The Royal Mint, whose history of producing British coinage goes back more than 1,000 years, said that this is the first time it has issued a £50 coin which also has a face value of £50.

The Queen's record-breaking reign has been voted the most inspirational news event of 2015.

The royal milestone polled ahead of the "Je suis Charlie" response to the terrorist attacks on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, and British astronaut Tim Peake's historic launch into space in a new survey.

Elizabeth II was also named most inspirational person of the year with 35% of the vote, ahead of athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill (13%), Peake (11%), Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn (8%) and Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon (6%).

The Queen became the country's longest serving monarch in history on September 9 when she passed Queen Victoria's record of 23,226 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes on the throne.
