The Queen and Prince Philip were greeted by quite a patriotic crowd.
Her Majesty looks really wonderful in that peach-coloured coat and floral dress.

I have not the slightest clue about greetings in Georgia, but I do know that people in the South of the US are known to be friendly. I agree, there shouldn't have to be a briefing about such intimacy when it comes to strangers, and I don't really know what in the heck the man was thinking.

Most of my family is from Georgia and, no, kissing strangers on the lips is most definitely not a typical greeting there. Even kissing friends/family members on the lips would be strange. In my experience, that sort of behavior is reserved for spouses/significant others only. I don't know what came over him!

From personal experience I know that people in the South of the US are very warm and welcoming. Glad to know they don't go around kissing random strangers on the lips though!
Today was the last day of HM and the DoE's jubilee tour of the UK. A wonderful effort from them both, and a great success given the size and excitement of the crowds all along the way.

No, this doesn't excuse it, but being from way further south than Georgia, I understand. She reminded him of his mother, he did it. I think the reaction was expected and deserved, I think it is funny. I am 46 years old my dad is 79 and my mom is 75, and have kissed both of my parents every time I see them since I moved out to college. Just do. Not uncommon.

Rumours surfaced this morning that Prince Philip had passed away, despite being alive and well in the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week.

Here are some pics of the Duke of Edinburgh's visit to the Isle of Wight on August 13:
He attended a Chamber of Commerce Lunch at the County Club, visited a mobile health unit and toured A J Wells and Sons in Newport:

I couldn't find a thread for portraits of Her Majesty, so I'm going to post the link here. Do feel free to move to an appropriate thread. Some of these portraits are pretty impressive:

Most of the portraits are quite nice, but I loath this one: the Queen looks like a man in a wig.
Similarly, this picture is rather unfortunate as well; there is something really wrong about the smile.

I have to agree with you Artemisia, those have to be the worst potraits. Not at all flattering. The others are pretty good.

These two are very creepy looking. Not at all becoming.

I just checked the royal.gov site for future engagements of the RF - month of September. I realize, much gets added the week prior, but there are no events scheduled yet for the Queen or Prince Phillip (or Charles and Camilla, as far as that goes) for September. Does anyone know how unusual this is - to be a week out from the month and to have nothing scheduled for them?
Princess Anne is booked heavily.

Its really not unusual at all as during August and September the Queen and the DoE are at Balmoral for their annual hiatus from the hectic schedule they keep for the rest of the year. Same with Charles and Camilla. During this time they may do a few engagements but for the most part its time to relax and regroup.

Not unusual for the Queen and Prince Philip to undertake few if any engagements while they are on their annual vacation in Scotland. Its sort of the point of being on vacation.

They're on holiday, The Queen is due to open the Paralympics next week then doesn't have anything planned until 9th October. Prince Charles' and Camilla's events sometimes get put on the Clarence House website, before the BRF one.
Princess Anne is not the only one who's doing engagements btw.

Good for QE2 & DoE. He can rest, and she can care for him and run around the estate in peace. She will comeback recharged.

Then it's not actually a vacation.

It is when you compare it to how busy they normally are.

The Queen has one engagement until the 9th October, she hasn't had one since the start of the Olympics. Prince Philip is supposed to attend the opening of the paralympic games, however I doubt he will.
