Oh! Lumutqueen, I love the photo. She looks just like a regular 'granny', wearing three sweaters to keep out the cold

To our eternal disappointment it's unlikely HM will be writing her review of the book for The Times Literary Supplement. If only...

I love how the article starts with the bishfires but ends with something we know the Queen adores - horse racing. For the non-Australian/New Zealanders out there the Melbourne Cup is the biggest horse race in Australia and it is always held on the first Tuesday in November (so usually the day before US elections due to the time difference). It is a public holiday in Melbourne and everywhere else the country stops to listen to or watch the cup.

More details on the Premier's visit - The Queen hosts John Brumby | Scotland | Victoria | bushfires

Mr Brumby gave Her Majesty a throw rug in Victorian State tartan with matching ties for Princes Charles, William and Harry. An appropriate gift for a visit in Balmoral.

Yeesh. I know where I'd throw that rug. Still, it's to the Queen's taste which is the main thing I suppose!

A truffle kerfuffle! Three years, £5,000 of planting and help from two top dogs, but Prince Philip's cash crop fails to bear fruit | Mail Online

They're both worth rather a lot and have been known to kick up a stink in public.

So you'd think that Prince Philip would have a special affinity with the truffle.

But the Duke of Edinburgh is instead struggling to make his one-acre 'truffiere' at Sandringham bear fungus.
