Elizabeth Cross to be given to families of Britain's war dead | Mail Online

The Queen is to honour the families of Britain's war dead with a new award in her name.

Those who have lost loved ones on the frontline or in terrorist attacks will be presented with the Elizabeth Cross.


In a radio message to the armed forces on the British Forces Broadcasting Service the Queen said: 'I greatly hope that the Elizabeth Cross will give further meaning to the nation's debt of gratitude to the families and loved ones of those who have died in the service of our country.'

I wrote about the new Elizabeth Cross on our forum blog, too: New British Military Medal Named for Queen Elizabeth.

It's a beautiful medal, and I think it's great that fallen military men and women will be recognized by an award named for HM.

Queen marks Scottish devolution anniversary

HM really is marvellous, she obviously wasn't feeling 100% but still looked so very nice, she's been so busy in June. Hopefully she can get some rest now. Although we love to see her so much, it's time for her to only be present at the special occasions that she particularly likes to attend.

700 Service men and women from units who recently returned
from Operation Herrick 9 in Afghanistan as they parade through
Exeter City centre on July 3, 2009 in Exeter, England. The parade
comes just days after Welsh Guard, Lt Colonel Rupert Thorneloe,
became the most senior Army officer to die in action since the
Falklands War and brings the number of British deaths in Afghanistan
since 2001 to 171.

It's not on the royal calender, but it has been speculated that she will attend the match. Fingers crossed he does win the Semi's against Andy Roddick.

It's interesting, Perez has been writing a lot about the Queen lately.

I'd suggest him to go back to his favourite celebrity-bashing and remember that the Queen of the United Kingdom is no celebrity and should not be placed alongside Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and the likes.

I guess Her Majesty will not attend the Wimbledon this year either; Murray just lost to Roddick in a thrilling and exiting match (4-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7).

Quite right Marsel. Perez is worse than most of the journalists in Britain and thats saying something.

I think the Elizabeth Award is a wonderful idea and hasn't come too late, as some may think.
