No, Bild and other German media referred to something they had heard from the British press "The Queen of England met Angela Merkel, Queen of Europe"! That's sounds, and is ridiculous. They also said that the most powerful woman in the world met the most famous woman in the world, which sounds more correct.

Her Majesty is Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 others countries, and head of the Commonwealth. She's an international icon and many see her as the Queen of the world.

I'm in Norway right now, and I saw a television program from last week, where a Norwegian band consisting of four 17 year-old boys were asked what their biggest dreams was?

They answered that one dream was to play for Queen Elisabeth, and they said she was a "beautiful Lady". That's not bad considering that she is almost 90, but I don't think their music is something the Queen would have liked.

The media coverage of this visit has been very big in Germany. This is yesterday's Bild front page.

The Queen is indeed known and respected throughout the world. This has been a very successful State visit, I think, both celebratory and moving (especially the visit to Belsen.) There was even a couple of minutes of awkwardness, (over the blue horse!) The Queen and Prince Philip must have been very tired at times but never showed it.

Yes indeed. I especially liked the yellow outfit. Yellow looks so good on Her Majesty.

We do realize that these two wonderful people are mortal and there will come a time when they are no longer with us and we will mourn their passing yet we will come to realize something. Spanning over 60 years as the monarch and her consort, I think the legacy that will be left behind will be the perfect examples of how to represent one's country that they love and serve. Queen Victoria may have been called the Grandmother of Europe but her descendant, Elizabeth II, will forever be known as The Queen. The German press definitely got that one right.

Well said!!!

How interesting that some of the German relatives, the Badens and Hesses, were invited. It is great that you have pictured them!

Yes, it's great that some of the German royals were invited to the garden party. I had been wondering if any of them would make an appearance at some point in the state visit. I remember that Prince Philip attended the funeral of Princess Margarita of Baden in 2013.

Thanks for sharing your experience and photos. It sounds like you had a memorable time! It was great that you got to see HM and Prince Philip and also the Badens at the same event.

Thank you so much for your blog on the visit to Frankfurt, Stefan. However, I'm greedy and want more, please! Was your impression that the Queen and Duke seemed to be enjoying everything? Apart from the long waits, what were your feelings on seeing the couple? Were the crowds huge, did you overhear any comments of interest from the people around you about the Queen. Where there a lot of British expats in the crowd?

I'm glad to see that the Queen and Duke were able to catch up with some of Prince Philip's relatives (descendants of his sisters etc during this trip. (They both seemed to really enjoy this visit to Germany.)

This speech has, unlike other such speeches not been uploaded on the British Monarchy Channel, which I find odd. It may have something to do with the Queen's words about Europe, which some thought was about the EU.
