Yesterday, May 21, the Duke of Edinburgh attended the Regimental Remembrance Service for the Grenadier Guards, of which he is Colonel, at Wellington Barracks:

DoE is really amazing for going on 96 - I think his posture is better than mine..lol

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have arrived at a Service to mark the Centenary of the Order of the British Empire, at St Paul's Cathedral.

Normally The Queen would appear in her Mantle of the Order and a Tiara but today she has worn a green suit and hat.

But what is very odd is the The Duke of Edinburgh has appeared in his Mantle as Grand Master of the Order.

I don't think The Queen is doing ceremonial dress this year due to the election. I guess Prince Philip can though.

Why would an election preclude ceremonial dress at a pre arranged event?

I wondered if they decided to keep it slightly more subdued due to the attack in Manchester?

No idea, but I don't believe it gas anything to do with the election or the events in Manchester.

IIRC, the election only impacts the formality of her dress at one event: the Opening of Parliament. I confess I don't really understand why the timing of the election changes what clothes she wears that day, but it's the custom for some reason.

I do hope someone will be able to decipher the difference in today's attire.

I think if it wasn't for the cut down on ceremonial dress this year, she would've worn her mantle and tiara. Especially for the centenary of the order. Perhaps it's down to her not wearing it, because Philip sure did arrive in his mantle and collar.

It turns out The Queen just decided to wear a day dress instead of the orders robe dress. Nothing to do with the election year or the Manchester bombing.

It has to mean a lot to the victims, their families, and the health care workers who are tirelessly caring for them to have QEII herself visit. Well done!

It's not quite "just a gesture". It's quite literally her job and why she is so popular and the Monarchy with her. She couldn't *NOT* be there and to her credit she really did want to be there.

I didn't say it was "just a gesture", I've used it as a positive, impressed compliment, maybe the word has a slightly different meaning in English and in German.

I've decided to take another break from my self-imposed ban here to make a post about Her Majesty's hospital visit yesterday.

The Queen's visit was the headline story from 16:00 to 24:00 on Sky News (I recorded it), and the headline story in the main news on Norwegian TV2.

I live permanently in Norway now (and the mediahhh app didn't work yesterday), so I did not have access to BBC News Channel. But I've heard that it was covered broadly there too.

The Queen almost stopped doing engagements like this in 2013, and as some commentaators said yesterday, she diden't have to do this. She is 91 years old, and she has already released a strong statement and did the one minute silence thing.

She could have sent Charles or William, but she wanted to meet some of the victims and give her thanks to some of the nursing staff, paediatric doctors and surgeons herself (just as she did in 2005, where she also gave a speech).

The Queen is also (as I have written before) become a bit more reserved/shy during the last 4 years, so that she chose to do this shows again how kind and caring this amazing lady is.

It's also nice to see how popular Her Majesty is. Her Ipsos MORI and YouGov approval ratings are at 80-90%, and she has since 2014 been polled the most admirred person/woman in the UK (also in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany in 2016).

Almost everyone I know in the UK likes her and almost all the comments on The Royal Family, the British Monarchist League and the British Monarchist Society & Foundation facebook pages are positive.

Even many of the ignorant and evil minded thugs in the DF comment section (the best rated comments) and on twitter likes her.

And seeing her yesterday brought tears to my eyes and made me dread the unthinkable moment when she finally leave this earth even more. I simply can't imagine a world without Elizabeth II, our beloved history-making monarch with her record breaking reign.

A playlist of the Queen's favourite songs released last year featured music by Vera Lynn and Fred Astaire - quite different from the tunes sung by the 23-year-old pop star.

Has the Queen been singing along to 'One Last Time' around Buckingham Palace?

We highly doubt it. Who knows if she was even aware of Ariana prior to Manchester's horrific events.

But the way she took time to talk to the teens about music they like shows her to be a thoroughly caring monarch.

Royal Norway, Thank you for posting your warm and heartfelt thoughts concerning Her Majesty. Indeed, it is very difficult to imagine a world without this amazing woman who has had a huge impact on the whole world. We are all better for having an example such as this Queen.
 
:previous: So many people are surprised that HM talked about the concert and music. She and her husband are the heads of a large multi-generational family and I guess she's suffered from it all.

More importantly, when she saw and was briefed she would have been told of the target audience, the age of her youngest grandchildren Vicount Severn andLady Louise, I have no doubt she checked out the sound. Unlike some, she does her homework and there is a small chance she already knew.

I never trust so-called sources, but the person described by Camilla Tominey sounds like the Queen I've heard so many nice things about, so I choose to believe this.
 
I hope they know The Queen does not have a new hair style. It's always good to see her out on engagements.
 
I was back to post somthing in the Norwegian 80th birthday thread, so I desided to make a post her too.

The Queen looks to be in great spirit (as usual) and looks amazingly well for 91. And even though she does not go on walkabouts anymore, many people were again out to see her.

The Queen will mark the 175th anniversary of the first train journey made by a British monarch.
On 13 June 1842, Queen Victoria made the trip from Slough to Paddington, writing in her journal afterwards that it was "delightful and so quick".
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will embark on the same journey on the day of the anniversary.

I hope she cancelled it. It is too rude and vulgar and doesn't deserve to be in the presence of HM.
