A great looking Queen Elizabeth visited Lister Community School in Plaistow today, March 3rd. The aim of the visit was to see how the Queen's Trust supports charities in schools.

Video: Queen meets children who will benefit from £22m windfall from her Jubilee fund - Telegraph

The Queen visits Lister Community School in Newham to discover more about how The Queen's Trust is supporting the work of charities in schools

When the Prince of Wales launched the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Appeal in 1977, no-one thought to put a time limit on how long the fund would continue.

After almost 40 years and two more jubilees, The Queen’s Trust, as it is now known, is still going strong, and still has £22 million in the bank.

Now, however, its trustees have decided the time has finally come to spend what is left, to ensure the funds are disbursed during the Queen’s reign and she can see how good causes have benefited.

Over the next three years, ten youth charities will receive a combined £22 million windfall, meaning the fund will have paid out more than £100 million during its lifetime.

Today the Queen was given a flavour of what the money will be used for when she met representatives of some of the ten charities chosen to benefit when she visited a school in east London.

Students at Lister Community School in Plaistow welcomed the Queen as she was given an update about the work of organisations that are benefiting from the Trust.

It's just under a month until the Queen reaches her 90th birthday and yet she seemed as sprightly as ever as she arrived at her engagement today.

The monarch looked regal in a purple ensemble paired with a matching hat and eye-catching red feathers as she attended the Queen's Trust Event at the Lister Community School in London.

She was greeted by veteran broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald, a trustee of the Queen's Trust, who arrived to speak about his involvement with the organisation.

The Queen visited Lister Community School today to discover more about how The Queen's Trust is supporting the work of various charities in schools. The Queen's Trust aims to make transformational grants to youth charities, enabling them to grow and develop, and so help more young people succeed. Its emphasis is on education and personal development in and out of school, in low-income communities in the UK.

It's very nice that this will occur just after the Queen's birthday. I'm sure she and Obama will enjoy meeting again. She has met every US President since Eisenhower, I believe.

Video: Lion licks its lips at thought of royal meal - Telegraph
Quote:
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh opened a new lion enclosure at London Zoo today, and at least one of the big cats appeared to think lunch had arrived early.

Behind the Queen's back, an Asiatic lioness licked her lips a few feet away from the royal guests as she looked at the VIP visitors.

And when the zoo's boss tried to make a speech, the Queen and the Duke were distracted by the sound of two young twin lions growling as they fought over a scrap of meat.

Wild animals are no respecter of persons, even Royal persons, as we know. However, I'm sure there would be meatier morsels around than the Queen and Prince Philip! It sounds like a lovely engagement, and it's great that these endangered lions have a new enclosure. I wonder whether the Queen indulged in a Bucks Fizz?

The Obamas have been received by our beloved Queen and her prince at Windsor.

Video:
US president Barack Obama has visited the Queen at Windsor Castle - the day after her 90th birthday. The outgoing American leader and the First Lady Michelle Obama touched down in the grounds of the monarch's Berkshire home in the Marine One presidential helicopter, landing on the golf course. The Obamas, who have a warm relationship with the Queen, are joining the sovereign and the Duke of Edinburgh for lunch in the castle's private dining room.
