I was watching Sky News while they awaited the appearance of Prince xxxxx of Cambridge and the reporter their said that Philip is actually at Sandringham and that The Queen will 'pick him up' on her way to Balmoral - I don't somehow get an image of The Queen driving the car to Sandringham, tooting the hoon and waiting for him to get into the car to continue driving north to Balmoral.

I did find it significant that they said that Philip will be going to Balmoral from Sandringham.

I noted that as well. This means that the Queen has not seen him for some time.

To be honest, none of this makes any sense to me. i just hope that he does go to Balmoral, that way we will know that he can travel. Otherwise, I will feel v concerned.

So Philip at Sandringham? I wonder if William called Philip after the birth. Hopefully he will get to see his first Great Grandson soon!

I have to admit that there is a little bit of me that worry a little bit that Philip won't get too meet his First great grandson, I am not saying he at death door or anything...

More than likely it's something as simple as Phillip likes/finds comfortable/most relaxed at Sandringham to recuperate from what is a fairly aggressive, invasive operation at his age. He had a few weeks to recover and that's what he liked. Why read too much into it?

I hope he will still be here when Zara gives birth...

What a sight that would be:

*The Queen, sitting behind the wheel of her Range Rover, taps horn*

HM- Where is he? I told him I'd pick him up at 11AM. Whatever is keeping him?

*Prince Philip finally appears, descends the steps & gets into the Rover*

HRH- I'm sorry to keep you waiting, I wanted to hear yesterday's cricket scores on the BBC.

HM [rolling her eyes] All right then, let's go on.

*Rover pulls out of Sandringham then on the way to Balmoral*

I don't think the fact that Philip is at Sandringham means anything too significant ad certainly nothing bad. It means he has been well enough to travel from London to Sandrinham in the first place and if he and his doctors though he wasn't progressing well they wouldn't let him treck to Sandringham and be away from major hospitals and the specialists who treated him after his op.
I think philip has probably gone to Sandringham as it means he can be away from lots of people who might fuss around him (and Philip hates fuss so I imagine being away from most people would be something he would like) and allow him to recover in quiet and in his own way without disturbing others.

I can totally see that.

Very good - I like this!
Maybe it's closer to the truth than we think!

Doesn't she go to Sandringham by train, and Balmoral by plane? Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

She goes by train to Sandringham at Christmas time but not necessarily at other times.

She goes to Balmoral by either plane or train - but if Philip can't fly yet then I can see them driving to a place to pick up the royal train and using it to go north.

Thank you! This gave me a much-needed laugh :D :ROFLMAO:.

I have to say- I am worried about him. This is a long recovery. I hope he's seen in public soon- even just walking to church at Balmoral so we know he's ok

I agree. As I said in my previous post (#361), if we dont see him at Balmoral, I will be v concerned.

I hope we see him soon too. It is getting a little worrying I think we are so used to seeing the Queen with Prince Phillip. It's been how long since we have seen him? By now I hope he has gotten back his stregnth and is feeling better. He is over 90 something we do need to remember.

I hope we see him soon also, I think that is why HM has looked so stressed and tired lately, worried about him. I don't know what she will do without her rock and best friend.

I also know they announced a month for him to recuperate, but I think it's been slightly longer than that, and I honestly didn't expect him to take the whole month. I thought he wouldn't work, but that he'd probably be seen at a more fun outing, like at the racetrack

They announced two months for him to recuperate and that isn't up yet. He went into hospital in early June and came out in mid-June - with a two month post discharge recovery I don't expect him to be back on duty until at least mid-August if not the end of August as August is summer holiday time where we rarely see them anyway.

Maybe first weekend in September at the Braemar Games he will be seen and I won't be worried unless we are told there is something more wrong until then.

Buckingham Palace said Philip was in good spirits as he left the clinic and was now expected to take two months to convalesce.

Discharge was 17th June - so two months is 17th August.

He has nothing scheduled for August but that isn't unusual as that is holiday time and even some things that we take for granted such as the Braemar Games don't necesssarily make it into the CC or FE.

The Queen also has nothing scheduled for August while Anne for instance as nothing after the 6th August in the FE page on the monarchy website.

About two weeks since she would have seen him if he is at Sandringham as reported as she was there as late as the 9th July when that accident happened with the man driving the lawn mower into the lake on the estate.

It is understood the Queen was at Sandringham on a private visit ...

The Queen was yesterday holding a private meeting in her garden at Sandringham with local members of the Welsh Corgi League.

Thank you iluvbertie- I misremembered the length of his convalescence. That makes me worry less.

I am not sure about the geography, but is it possible that Catherine and William went to the Middletons because it is closer to Sandringham and they are planning to take (or have already taken) the baby to see the DoE?

Sandringham is a 3 hour+ drive west from Bucklebury. If Prince Philip is to join The Queen in balmoral and she reportedly left yesterday, then he won't have seen his first great grandson.

I suspect that the Cambridge trio will all travel up to Balmoral at some point to allow all the family (including Philip) to meet the newest member of the family.

I thought Philip was at Windsor Castle...?

I thought Philip was at Windsor Castle...?

News channels reported on the day baby George came out of hospital that he was at Sandringham not Windsor. The Queen was going to pick him up on the way to Balmoral for summer. :flowers:

Ahhh, I see. I was sure I had read that he was staying at Windsor Castle but thanks for the information.

Bucklebury is in the wrong direction from London. Sandringham is north and Bucklebury is west.

That is a long time to recover from exploratory surgery. I hope he is well enough to travel to Balmoral soon. I'm sure he and the Queen miss each other. It will be good to see him again.

It would be in a younger man but at 92 2 months is about normal for any major surgery and even exploratory abdominal surgery is major surgery.

According to Peter Hunt's twitter, there is another engagement for Prince Philip on 12th August, presenting medals in Edinburgh.
