What a lovely article! It's so nice to read how close this family is, and that there's so much respect and reverence for Her Majesty and Prince Philip.

And, what a delightful Birthday gift for His Highness! I think he's happier than anyone about his release. I'm so glad that he's feeling better.

He didn't look all that well as he was leaving hospital. His colour was still awful. Now I know that the hospital would have been adivsing him to stay if he wasn't ready to go home, but I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't hospitalised again this year - sorry but it is just the way I feel about the way he looked on leaving the hospital. I do hope that he takes it easy and gets plenty of rest and stays strong as it was so clear how much The Queen leans on him when he wasn't there to give her support.

The itineray for the next month is still quite hectic from what I can see so I do hope The Queen puts her foot down - the only one who can - and tells him to stay at home sometimes.

Isn't there a scheduled visit to a town with HM, the Duke and William and Kate upcoming this week? I wonder if Philip will opt out of that so soon after his discharge from the hospital.

Yes they are going to Nottingham BBC News - Nottingham Jubilee visit: Queen's itinerary released but the article does imply that Philip won't be going. I do hope he does what the doctors tell him.

It had been planned for the Duke of Edinburgh to visit Nottingham as well, but he has been in hospital with a bladder infection.

I notice that it doesn't say one way or the other but I would be surprised to see him on Wednesday, particularly if he attends the Garden Party at Sandringham on Tuesday. Of course they make it a daytime decison based on weather as much as anything.

It's just flashed up on BBC News that the DoE won't accompany HM to the garden party at Sandringham tomorrow, so I would assume it's pretty unlikely that he'll be in Nottingham on Wednesday.

From 'MAJESTY Magazine' facebook page:

The Duke of Edinburgh will be continuing with his convalescence at home and therefore will not attend tomorrow’s Garden Party at Sandringham or accompany The Queen on her East Midlands Tour later this week.

The Duke of York will now accompany The Queen at tomorrow’s Garden Party.

Looks like His Highness will be resting for the near future.

It's rather serendipitous that the Cambridges had already planned to accompany HM to Nottingham.

I'm not surprised at this. Just because he was well enough to be released from the hospital that didn't mean he was cleared to resume his work load.

I'd like to know though if HRH is accepting of having to continue resting or if he is crazy with boredom already. If he isn't complaining about having to rest then I'd say he is sicker than I thought, he doesn't seem to be the kind of person to enjoy lying around doing nothing.

At any rate HRH should take however much time he needs to recover. After all he's got HM to support and she needs him to be 100% :)

I agree that Philip would probably be bored if well enough to attend but not able to do so, however, I don't think he looked all that well when he left hospital so I am not surprised at this decision. He still has a busy summer ahead with the Olympics and so needs to regain his strength.

I am also pleased to see Andrew accompanying his mother - he is about the only one who hasn't been seen with his mother on one of these trips so far this year - in fact it is rare to see Andrew doing duties, or even socialising, with his any member of his family (except the really big events).

Another reason he may not be attending things is that most likely he is still on antibiotics. One of the precautions with taking certain medications is to avoid direct sunlight.

Just a thought.

Being on strong antibiotics does have very unpleasant side effects if his overall bacterial count drops. As stated in a previous post, he will probable enter the hospital before the end of the year. I am sure that everything will be ok, as long as he enters the hospital. It is when he gets ill, and does not go to the hospital that it is time to worry.

Not to wish ill to him but does anyone else think that DoE is suddenly looking very much older? I don't know a lot about geriatric health, but it seems as this illness really wiped him out! Anyone knowledgable????

I also think the Duke doesn't look well and his color isn't good. The recovery time from illness is longer for anyone of his age and he might be overdoing it with Ascot. I really believe he should be cutting back on his engagements for some rest and recuperation, and a chance to regain his strength for the upcoming Olympic festivities.

I really hope he is feeling better, but this illness has definitely taken its toll on him.

I think that all of these posts about the DOE is an indication of how he and the Queen have endeared themselves to us royal watchers, to the point where we cannot imagine the BRF without him. I will personally be devastated when he passes, and I do hope he has several years left.

IA. He looks better than he did at Trooping the Color. But, this illness did take a toll on him. Hopefully, he is feeling better and isn't over-doing it.

This is very true. I cannot imagine the family without His Highness, and I think it'll be a very sad time when he does pass on. I've gotten used to seeing him at family events, and I do wish him many, many years of health and happiness. This couple has definitely endeared themselves to me over the time that I've been following the BRF.
