Prince Philip Hospitalised Due to Bladder Infection: June 4-9, 2012

Kataryn , I agree with you, they should have adopted a plan B !

Thinking of the Duke of Edinburgh today! Good thoughts for a speedy recovery, sir!

I wish Prince Philip a speedy and trouble free recovery. I'm glad he at least got to see the river pageant, much of which he seemed to truly enjoy, despite the weather! It's always worrisome to hear someone his age has been hospitalized for any reason, but at least in the hospital he'll have no choice but to rest and follow orders, so to speak, with no temptation to do more than he's able, as there might be if he recuperated at home.

That's a very bad news, I hope he will recover soon. But looking at how fragile he is at his age, I just admire his strength and decision to stay up on all the way on Thames River Pageants. He is too old to have resisted the bad weather conditions, it's a pity that he suffers because of it.

Fortunately bladder infection's symptoms are come by very quick and easily once the diagnosis is made. But I'm glad he is able to relax now in a warm bed after yesterday's Pageant, who while it surely was pure fun for his mind must have been a terrible ordeal for his body.

I personally don't understand why they didn't erect some sort of glass pavillon for the Royals in case of bad weather? It isn't as if it never rains in Braitain in summer and today's techniques make it possible to erect such a pavillon on a moment's notice, if need be, with all necessary equipment to air and heat it underneath the floor and out of sight. I guess it would have been much more comfortable for HM and the DoE to sit on their thrones in such a pavillon instead of standing in the foggy air on the river for hours on end.
You could see from the way Camilla carefully stepped down the steps at the end that she felt it in her bones how cold and wet the day had been.

Very insightful post. I completely agree with you. By the end of the pageant one could see that her HM was cold and feeling uncomfortable and therefore being glad when it was over.

I don't think the rain was the issue. The cold was the problem, and in fairness to the organisers, I don't think anyone expected it to be that cold in London in June. I mean, the week before we'd had weather of 28C, and yet yesterday it was down to 10-12C.

I kinda felt that they could've decided earlier in the week, when the weather forecast was what it was, to move the pageant to today. I know it might not have suited some of the participants, but surely a pageant of 800 boats, say, in decent weather would've been better than a pageant of 1,000 boats with everyone frozen and soaked.

Wouldn't it be nice if Prince Harry accompanied her since he is the single male in the procession? :flowers:

That would be nice too. Just thought before I left William off but letting Harry walk his Granny down the aisle at the survive would be nice.

Sorry to be thinking of the events and not the person. I too add to the many wishes of good luck to the Duke. Someone said and I agree he looked happy throughout the event. I hope he makes a full recovery and James Bond flies him in to the service right as the Queen arrives on Tuesday : ) !!!"

My guess is that Prince Charles will escort the Queen as the most senior male royal, and Prince Harry will walk with his stepmother.

I think you might be right - if anyone is to accompany The Queen then it would be her son and heir although if Queen Victoria is taken as a precedent she will walk down alone preceeded by Charles and Camilla and before them William and Catherine with Harry leading the way. To have Harry accompany her would be to promote him above his father and older brother.

I also wonder whether they will still have three carriages in the procession or reduce it to two.

Surely they will have someone in the carriage with The Queen - e.g. Charles and Camilla and then the second carriage with William, Kate and Harry. Here is a chance for the other three children to then be in the third carriage. The planning for a three carriage procession is quite immense with service personnel etc training so it would be horrible for those who were to accompany the third carriage to find that they were no longer needed so a three carriage procession I am sure will continue but who will be where - The Queen solo or accompanied and if accompanied by whom and what other changes might follow from that?

Forgot to add that I hope Philip gets well soon as she relies on his so much and there is still a lot to do this year - his 91st birthday on Sunday, Trooping the Colour and then in November their 65th Wedding Anniversary.

Sir - If you read this - please remember that as much as you want to be out and about and assisting your Queen and wife it is more important that she has you to be her sounding board and guide in the quiet times when she is preparing for events and when she is winding down afterwards.

Poor Prince Philip I wish him a speedy recovery. At least he was able to enjoy the flotilla!

My mom came into my room this morning to tell me. I was like this better be good cause I'm wiped from yesterday and she told me she was like Prince Philip is in the hospital! At first cause I was out of it I was like what happened are we back in December? But then when I really woke up and read everything I was relieved it wasn't too serious but then it hit me he wouldn't be around and I was really sad especially since this is a big celebration something that not many Kings/Queen's reach. I just hope all the best to him and may he get well soon and we see him on the balcony for Trooping the Colour next week.

What unfortunate timing!! Bad news I noticed in one pic he looked unwell, makes sense now:sad:,.... bladder infections are no fun! I do wish The Duke a speedy recovery!

I hope His Highness will get well soon. Sending positive thoughts to him and the rest of the family. Very sad that he'll be missing the rest of the Jubilee though .

It really does bring home the fact this isn't just the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Prince Philip has sacrificed for 60 years of his life to support the Queen. He should have been able to enjoy this weekend just as much as anyone else.

I agree, HRH should have been able to enjoy all of this as much as ANYONE. What a shame, Im sure he is so dissapointed to have to miss out on everything. But he is a very strong man and I hope he will be feeling better soon. He seemed so lively and obviously enjoyed the river pageant very much!

I wish Prince Philip a speedy recovery. It must be disappointing to both him and the Queen that he'll have to miss so much of the celebration.

I really hope Prince Phillip get's better quickly. Hopefully he has been able to watch the celebrations of tv. It is such a pity he has taken sick right now. The Queen really would want the man who has supported and loved her all these years by her side as he always is. I do think people overlook Prince Phillip's contribution to the family and what he does and means to the Queen at times.

This is exactly what my grandmother said when we were discussing Prince Philip's hospitalization (she was incensed that the poor man was out in the cold during the Pageant, and thought that more than likely he caught a chill, which manifested itself by causing some issues involving the kidneys [I'm not a doctor and neither is my gran, so I'm just giving you her thoughts on this scenario]). Anyway, she pointed out that she felt disappointed for Her Majesty, who cannot enjoy the remainder of her Jubilee with the man who has been her rock and support for the sixty-four and a half years.

I also wish a speedy recovery for the Duke! However as much
as I acknowledge and respect the deep sense of duty of HM and HRH I can't help thinking that they were pushing their luck during the Pageant! British or not, it must have been uncomfortable for them; the wet, cold and windy conditions on the Thames almost penetrated my TV screen! And by they way, the only 'thing' I didn't particulaly like at the otherwise wonderful pageant was the - ahem! - ostentatious way that river barge- the Spirit of Chartwell - had been decorated. IMO the royal party had deserved something more stylish and less garish!

I completely agree with you. I think even at one point, Sophie, Countess of Wessex told a reporter that she was freezing. I can only imagine how uncomfortable Her Majesty and Prince Philip were, since as people get older, their circulation gets worse and they feel chilled at temperatures that won't bother the younger folks. As for the barge, it did remind me of those chairs that they used in ancient Arab kingdoms to carry royalty; gaudy and over-the-top. You're right; in this case less would have been a lot more.

I hope and pray that The Duke of Edinburgh will recover soon. Stay strong, Your Royal Highness. We are always with you.

Sadly, it appears that there will be only two carriages, which I'm sure is a disappointment for the people you mentioned. Richard Palmer is reporting on twitter that The Queen will ride in the 1902 State Landau with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will ride together in another carriage.

The Queen will also sit next to Prince Charles in church- it was apparently planned that she and Prince Phillip should sit together ahead of the other royals, but now she'll share a row with the Prince and the Duchess.

It must such a lonely ride to the church, all by herself. Prince Philip seems to be ageless, but we musn't forget t no one is immortal, he and HM have been around for all my life, and my parents mind you, and almost my grandparents...I do wishim a speedy recovery

Someone said in another thread that a Lady-in-Waiting will be traveling with Her Majesty to St. Paul's.

HM walked down the aisle alone, will sit next to Charles for the service and was accompanied in the car by Lady Farnham.

This must be so painful for her to celebrate without Philip.

It so sad that he will miss the rest of the services but we are all hoping off a quick recovery. The princes health is in my prays!

I really felt for the Queen having to be there alone on this wonderful day. Best wishes to HRH for a speedy recovery from Australia :flowers:

The Earl of Wessex visited his father the Duke of Edinburgh at King Edward VII Hospital in London just minutes ago.
