Queen soon to have 2nd longest reign
On 12 May 2011 HM Queen Elizabeth II will become the second longest reigning British monarch, when her reign exceeds the length of the reign of George III.
There are threads and posts about the celebrations for her Diamond Jubilee next year and Prince Philip's 90th birthday.
Does anyone know if anything is planned for this landmark, or will it just slip quietly past?

I have not heard of anything yet- so quietly past I think.
When will QE2 become longest reigning monarch? Now there might be a celebration of that- not sure though.

I think we're going to have fireworks at our house. We are not in the dry zone - it should be okay.

She will become the longest reigning monarch on 10 September 2015, when she exceeds Queen Victoria's 63 year and 216 day reign.

Nothing is planned in the UK, it's no real special event.

Maybe the Queen will have a quiet drink but otherwise it won't be a reason for celebration (it wasn't when Queen Victoria became the longest reigning - probably because the Jubilee was so close in time).

I think the reflection would be on how well the time was spent, not the length of time.
