Can happen to anyone.
Almost happened to me once on a parade. Things had been delayed and I hadn't rocked enough on my feet, so red clouds in front of the eyes and tunnel-vision. Didn't faint though but it was close! - And finally our lieutenant began to order us to shift between standing to attention and at ease.

There's just nothing better than Trooping the Colour! Nothing any other monarchy does comes close to this IMO.

I'd much rather this over a fancy tiara-wearing gala dinner any day. Those sorts of things shut the public out, only the cream of the crop can take part. With something like this, the public very much plays a part and is invited along to enjoy it.

As they said on BBC, we should be proud to be British. I am very proud to be half-British when I see this, and proud to have the best head of state in the world.

I did. Thanks Lumutqueen.

Now the salute is fired. 2 X 21 shots. 21 for the Monarch and 21 to celebrate QEII herself.
The cannons are WWI era field pieces. - Such canons usually fired shrapnels and at a fairly close distance to the enemy, hence the armor plating.
A shrapnel is a type of grenade and if we should be correct not a fragment from a bomb or shell.
A shrapnel shell, contained hundreds of balls from lead and some distance from the canon the shell opened, releasing the balls that continued towards the enemy in the form of a widening cone of balls, wit terrible effect against masses of infantry - or in the colonies hordes of charging warriors.
Alternatively a shrapnel exploded in the air above the enemy sending the balls 360 degrees. But these were less effective and were usually fired by larger caliber artillery.

As the war progressed into trench warfare, such field pieces became less useful. The brisant, shrapnel and high-explosive shells they fired were simply too small to be effective on the battlefields of WWI.
One of the things the British army learned from the Battle of Somme, was that many of their artillery pieces were way to small to be effective and even worse around 10 % of the shells were duds, due to manufacturing errors.

The fly-over takes place now.

A commentator from the Guards Hussars here in DK, remarked that the air force is the youngest branch of the armed forces and here in DK, the army and the navy tease the air force by saying that where the army and navy have traditions, the air force only have habits.

Prince George is wearing the outfit his father wore to Henry's christening.

We just happened upon the CNN coverage of the family on the balcony. My husband merrily announced that the Queen is wearing Teletubby green.

Small adjustment made this year. The Queen didn't take the salute at Buckingham Palace like she usually do every year.

George and Charlotte and the other kids enjoyed being on the balcony. George covered one eye so he could a proper few of the shy. I used to do that. Still do in some cases, lol.

I love Her Majesty's rich, bright green clothes. George is a cutie and Charlotte reminds me very of her great-grandma.

The Queen always has an excellent choice of Her Majesty's dressing. I just love her colours; she is brave to wear them and long live Queen at 90 years old!

Who didn't want to eat Charlottes cute face up though? She looked like a little grown lady up there.

I'm glad The Queen wore a band aid over the soar on her leg. I didn't like seeing it open like before. It also have a better chance to heal.

It was very sweet to see all the royals in fine fettle, and the two youngest members too. George fascinated by the planes and squinting upwards, and giving the crowds a wave, Charlotte looking very composed in her mother's arms. There seemed to be quite a bit of joking among the family, and the Queen looked so happy and thoroughly enjoying herself today.

He's got her looks, thankfully.

The family rarely wave from the balcony.

Apparently QEII preference for vivid colors is so that she can be easily noticed in a crowd. A reporter claimed she could see QEII almost a kilometer away today, when she wore her neon-green.

As they said on BBC and Sky News: I've never seen crowds like that for Trooping the Colour before, and much bigger than they were for the Queen Mother's 80 and 100th birthdays.

And had they waited an hour, then the crowds had been as big as those of the Jubilees/Weddings - quite extraordinary if you ask me. Both my mother, stepfather and one of my brothers was there, and they were very moved by seing HM on the balcony.

And the UK media praised here as usual, and deservedly so.

Actually, that is the Duke of Kent. He doesn't ride with the others at the back of the Queen's carriage anymore due to health problems- he suffered a minor stroke awhile ago, but he is still on the reviewing stand with the Queen and DofE.

Lovely to see Louise with her hair in an updo! She's growing up and looking lovely.

Nice to see Charlotte looking less than impressed with the fly past - instead much more interested in her poor teething gums! She's cute as a button anyway! George looked cute.

Nice to see Lord Nicholas' son in a cute sailor suit!
