The Queen uses to smile and wave to the crowds when she sits in her carriage - she did it during the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees, and when she uses the Queenmobile.

But now you're going to see something odd, because she never wave to the crowds from her carriage during the Trooping the Colour. It can have something to do with that she used to ride herself or something millitary.

A funny little info from TV2 - The two colour-guards are identical twins.
There are of course many families for whom it's a tradition to serve, in this case, in the Coldstream Guards.

This parade has been honoring the British monarch since 1748, albeit with few breaks during WWI and WWII.

The rifles they use are Lee Enfield 85, 5.56, with the sights (that are more expensive than the rifles) covered up. The design with magazine behind the trigger, is called Bull-pup, and as such the rifle can be much shorter than those with the magazine in front of the trigger.
Even though that makes the triggering mechanism a little more complicated, the compact design makes the rifle very well suited for using inside an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) and also very well suited for airborne troops.
As a little curiosum, during the First Golf War, the Americans leaned that the British army had shipped hundred of thousands of condoms. And try as they might, the Americans couldn't spot any women in the desert! In turned out the condoms were used to pull over the barrel, preventing sand from getting into the barrel.

Wow, it's also being broadcasted several channels here in the US.

You can't miss The Queen in her beautiful bright lime green overcoat and hat!

I had no idea CNN would show it. They usually only show Royal funerals and Royal weddings. I guess many networks want to cover her 90th Birthday Celebrations.

From what regiment is the uniform Prince Andrew is wearing?

It's interesting to see the colonel of the Coldstream Guards being escorted by four swords from the Blues and Royals. Being curassiers the cavalrymen ride big horses! Bigger than the one the colonel is riding.

90th Birthday Celebrations of Queen Elizabeth: May and June 2016

CNN switched back to their regular programming at 6am Eastern time 😞

What other US channels are showing it? Is there a live stream?

The colour is now to be paraded in front of the regiment.

The colour-sergeant will hand the colour over to a lieutenant who will parade the colour. The colour will be escorted by a company.

The purpose of the whole thing is to ensure that every single soldier in the regiment know the colour, so that in the confusion and smoke of battle, where hardly anything can be heard and the nearest NCOs and officers may have fallen, the soldiers know where to rally or alternatively in what direction to move.

Notice the slow cadence of the march. Grenadiers evolved from soldiers issued grenades (bombs actually) to assault troops, to eventually heavy infantry of the line.

I really dont like BBC America. They pretty much show the same thing over and over again, and nothing like these royal events.
