To Inaki and Cristina, it must certainly feel like sitting on a bomb, one whose contents they know.......

I wonder what life is like for those four children, particularly if both parents will be named - I mean, holy cow. I suppose your childhood ends the day your dad is named a suspect in an internationally reported case, but how do you characterize it when your mother is about to be named as well, and your every reaction outside the four walls of your home is reported on (thinking of the oldest boy's photo taken in the car this summer)? I really do wonder if the children's return to Spain this year was really in their best interests at this point? Do the elder boys turn on their TV or internet and read about this case? Do their classmates stare at them? This would not be the case in the U.S - I can guarantee you my well-educated, well-heeled neighbors and peers know nothing of these people, and can barely tell you about Spain itself.

he will never disown his daughter, only her actions

Actually there is no point blaming Inaki while condoning her silence/inaction.
But then calling for the King to abdicate is totally absurd.

I think The King publicly dis-owning his daughter may cool the situation, but then it is really bad.
And in these tough times the general public and politicians will find some reason or other to blame the Royals..

One good thing is there is no "general public outrage"..No people gathering, protesting, shouting slogans, etc. Only in the media and some social networking people are posting their "protests", and that will pass off, I hope.
But then he is a "terrific" man, so damn gorgeous..I can excuse Christina for "succumbing" to him..lol

Not yet but if this case drags on and there are more revelations it could spell more negativity towards the royal family.

Cristina may follow him soon...
King of Spain's daughter may be named as a suspect in multimillion euro fraud case as her husband faces court quiz | Mail Online

Despite some calls for abdication, I don't see it at all. If it was for "health reasons", everyone would interpret it as an admission of guilt. I am not sure but I think in this case the King would lose his immunity and as soon as that is the case, I am sure some people in Spain will start REALLY digging deep

There were people protesting at the last court appearance of Inaki last year. I suppose the one saving grace, if you could call it that, for the SRF is that the Spanish have plenty of other institutions who are in an equally difficult place and are also attracting public protest. The ire is diluted somewhat, I suppose.

The BBC are continuing their policy of only being interested in other RFs when they're mired in scandal:

See, in that entire article, there was only one very very vague line that "senior politicians are calling for abdication". No one is named or quoted. This happens all the time. It is a very generalised sentance media use "to fill the space". At the most some Catalan hardliners are quoted, but they speak against monarchy all the time.
So we need not consider this as a threat to the King in any way.
He will not and should not and need not abdicate..

The Guardian reports that the head of the socialist party is calling for his abdication, and I forget if others were named specifically as well. Don't think that this is not a very serious situation for the king. It is.

Can we imagine what its like behind the closed doors of Zarzuela, the Queen must be broken hearted, though she'd never show an inkling of that in public. It must also be heaping unwanted stress on the King, who as we know is not in the best of health.

Politicians from the main parties will never dare to call for an abdication of the King, since they have their own corruption scandals, much bigger and difficult to hide. Asking the abdication of the King because of the Urdagarin scandal is what I would call hypocrisy at the highest level

Most of Spanish people, especially between the young, are in favour of an abdication. You should just care to do some research on social networks -if you aren´t able to have a walk at any Spanish city and listen the talks of the people- to realize that.

But hey, it seems that everybody here knows the opinion of the Spanish people more than ourselves

I have read that 84% of people in Spain polled want Cristina imputed.

The fact that Cristina isn´t even called to testify, while Torres´wife and Cristina´s secretary are, is considered quite offensive for the average Spaniards. She isn´t an popular woman right now

It doesn't matter who is calling for the king's abdication over this whole mess- the Royal House announced yesterday he will not abdicate.
