Right. And one has to wonder, knowing Sarah's way of--ahem--stretching the truth, if that was in fact Andrew's attitude.

I remember this story as well, but I can't remember the source. I think that it was in one of the books that came out after Diana's death, but I'm not sure.

No. Not at all.

Thank you. I did not know from where it came - only that someone I respect as being well-informed about all things royal told me the anecdote. That alone did not say it was 'true', of course, except as I have come to 'know' the personality over my reading of the last not-quite-a-year, it 'fits' the personality. It does not seem out-of-character for the person to have done.

I have read the story that the Princess made a point of scheduling a public appearance on the day the Duchess was making her first public appearance after her marriage. Clearly, the Princess did not act kindly towards Sarah - even though Sarah indicates that they were friends. She could not tolerate another 'star' on the red carpet beside her. That jealousy led her to sabotage Sarah, not just the once but twice - I believe the story.

It still remains, that no matter what is the reality about Sarah, she has never spoken ill about anyone, royal or not, even when they did her dirty. In that, one can see her good heartedness. She must exasperate her friends - those she has - though she does not reveal them, she must have them. I am impressed with Simon Cowell's words to her - he was being a friend.

That is very true. Sarah has never, ever spoken ill about anyone, Royal or otherwise. It's actually quite a good point and one worth noting. Even when Princess Margaret sent her that positively scathing letter after Sarah sent her flowers as a peace offering, a letter that was written by the poison pen of a true hypocrite, she never mentioned it. Prince Phillip, one of Sarah's biggest critics (though I suspect he also understands her far better than most of the other Royals) has never had a nasty word from Fergie publicly, nor Charles, Anne, Edward and of course Her Majesty.

Have there been any recent interviews? I know she is making appearances but I haven't seen anything beyond a stray quote in a bit.

Not that I'm aware of, she seems to be keeping a lower profile as of late...her spokesman did say in the last few days that her planned trip to Australia has been put off and that she hopes to return soon as she wants to forge ahead with her television career.

No interviews recently, as she is currently on holiday in Thailand at the Kamalaya spa again. As Lord Royal says, she was due to go to Australia afterwards, but will now it seems be heading back to the UK.
It's her birthday next Saturday, so perhaps she decided that she'd rather be at home for that.

Such a tiring life she leads, obviously one who works that hard really needs a relaxing spa holiday in Thailand. :-)

That really made me laugh, NGalitzine.

To be serious, whilst I begrudge no one a holiday, I really don't think these luxurious holidays abroad are helping Sarah if she really does want to be taken seriously as a person with a career. [And this is without even thinking where the money is coming from - these holidays all cost and I just hope we won't have Sarah bleating again anytime soon about how poor she is etc etc]

I don't have much respect for Simon Cowell normally, but he was spot-on with his suggestion above that Sarah needs to keep a super-low profile. And I am sorry, but holidays and spa trips do not accord with my idea of keeping a low profile. And I fear that members of the Royal Family - e.g. Prince Philip - won't be too amused to see where the 'penniless Fergie' has now berthed herself. And I further fear that ultimately - and however unfair it might seem - it' going to impact negatively on her daughers.

I am interested in Sarah's plans to relaunch a tv career. With respect, Sarah to me seems to be a 'one-trick pony' - without many qualifications, all she seems to be able to do is to trade - to a lesser or greater extent - on the fact that she was once married to a member of the royal family. incidentally, I've just followed the link given in FergieFan's signature, and the first thing I saw in that website was a signature in Sarah's handwriting which read 'Sarah the Duchess of York'. Sarah just does not 'get it' does she?

What can Sarah now do? IMHO, I think that the public must be getting a bit sick of Sarah's interviews and tv appearances. She seems to have been saying the same thing- in slightly different ways - for the last 20 years or so.

If Australia is not deemed to be receptive to Sarah at the moment, what about America? I was under the impression that Sarah was thought well-of in the United States, but I have been reading another link from above to an American tv website and even though I accept that it probably is not really a representative sample, I was struck by the number of negative, not to say quite cruel remarks about Sarah [several posters even going so far to say that it was a pity that Sarah rather than Diana did not die in Paris]. It hardly seems to suggest a basis for re-establishing a career there. Can someone help me with what part Oprah may still be having in Sarah's life and career plans?

Sarah seems to be a reasonably effective public speaker, and she has been a reasonably effective brand ambassador for WeightWatchers and the like, but the bottom line is that her effectiveness rests on her celebrity as an ex-royal. And now, even Andrew seems to be 'distancing himself' from his ex wife, just slightly. We see him with new dates etc. I just do not know where Sarah is going to go next, but so far as interviews and tv appearances are concerned, I don't think she has anything new to say.

Only my thoughts and not meant to offend,

Alex

I'm just one person. Sarah is not 'popular' here - nor 'unpopular'. She doesn't have a visible presence here at the moment - and public interest has the attention span of a gnat - which doesn't mean she can't create one, a visible presence. It ain't over 'til its over, as the saying goes. You can't count anyone out - not in the US. Most people care little about the past than about what is happening here and now - not about one 'failed' show and a few dicey interviews. If anything, she has some possibilities because of those 'failures'. If Sarah can rise any where as the phoenix from the ashes its the US - and it won't be about her being royal once or her royal connections - it'll be about what she can demonstrate she can do here and now. People like to see success after disaster. In the end its all been her life after all - 'connections' or not.

As for Oprah - who knows? If Sarah can 'sell' Oprah an idea - and Oprah sees its a workable business idea - she'll spring - maybe. Oprah is not stupid, though - she won't be throwing good money after bad. 'Controversial' in the entertainment industry is not a bad thing - polarizing is not a bad thing, either. 'Spectacle' comes to mind with some shows. If Oprah ponies up with an offer - you can bet she's weighed the odds and sees the risk odds-on.

Oprah's OWN network is experiencing a lot of problems so I doubt Oprah is going to jump into anything with Sarah anytime soon. The show wasn't a huge success and did little for Sarah or the network. The problem for Sarah is without her past she has nothing. The only reason she get's the jobs she has is because of her connections that can't be denied. I believe she has some books coming out but I doubt they will do much either. Sarah could be giving Oz a miss because of the interview she may be worried about the reception the press would give her and she wouldn't get the same softball interviews she has had. Another vacation must be needed after the last one she had! It isn't cheap either it makes you wonder where she is getting all her cash from. Her friends must get sick of paying for things for her. The show didn't pay her that much it must have been gone through by now so I expect some more I really need to work stories coming from Sarah soon as per usual. I'm wondering with next year being such a big one for The Queen if Sarah may get some work connected with that. I just can't imagine her getting an interview type show etc she doesn't have the pull or charisma for that. Unless of course the RF have asked her to be quiet in which case the States looks like a good option. With all these vacations she has had plenty of time to think and she should look very well rested.

I know I've stated earlier, Diarist, that here in the US and in the circles in which my professional life is conducted, there is very little if any awareness of who or what Sarah is (or was) amongst anyone basically under the age of 35. When "Finding Sarah" was on, I mentioned it for discussion when in our HQ offices, and was amused to discover that our rather brilliant set of analysts and managers (all with advanced degrees, all situationally aware and all very "plugged in,") thought that Sarah was dead, Sarah was Camilla, or Sarah was an ex-contestant on a show like Big Brother, the X Factor, or Celebrity Rehab.

Basically, Sarah's target audience is women aged 40-60: in other words, Oprah's OWN audience. If a six-part commercial for Brand Sarah on the best target network for Sarah's target audience isn't resulting in floods of offers and opportunities, I think that perhaps the U.S. isn't going to be the playing field for the required phoenix rising.

What about Australia?

This is probably supposition but perhaps there's been some bugs buzzing by Sarah's ears suggesting that holding off on being in Australia on or around the same time that HM is scheduled to visit is not quite a good idea and to leave it be so as not to detract from HM's visit or even in any way suggest any kind of "royal connection" still remains between herself and the BRF?

As far as any future possibilities in TV or just even in the public eye, I think Sarah's outlook most probably would look very bleak. As was stated, what people want is the "here and now" and if we are really honest, Sarah really is a has been.

Well there used to be a show called "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", perhaps they could revive a show like that for her. She would probably be quite good at it. That way even though she cannot afford to live the lifestyle herself she would at least be able to visit those who can (pretty much like she does now) and get paid for it.

This isn't a bad idea, actually. Sarah does have a plummy accent, which would be a real asset with something like that.

I kind of remember that show! Robin someone-or-other narrated/starred! I was in a restaurant in Camden Maine once when he came in and his very booming voice carried throughout this very small (12-table) restaurant. And he sounded exactly like he did on the show.

This is actually a terrific idea!
