PRINCESS ROYAL STEPS OUT FOR FESTIVAL OF TREES

3 DECEMBER 2003
Princess Anne has been getting into the festive spirit by joining other VIPs at the Festival Of Trees event in London. The annual fundraiser, staged in the capital's Natural History Museum, aims to raise money for the Save The Children Fund, of which the Princess is president.

The exhibition centres around specially designed "Christmas trees" donated by such luminaries as Tiffany, Julien Macdonald and celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie. Affluent Christmas shoppers are invited to bid for the unique "trees" in an effort to raise money.

And this year's collection includes contributions from the Jim Henson Company, which brought us The Muppets, and menswear specialists Thomas Pink, along with the other big names. The trees, which come adorned with gifts of luxury items, make for a luxurious Christmas surprise.

Since the Festival Of Trees began in 1989, it has raised over £2.5 million for the charity Save The Children. Last year's event brought in over £160,000, and organisers are hoping to top that figure this time around.

Actually the dress is not new! I can't locate the pictures at present but HRH has had that dress since the early 80s. I think its great that it still fits. I do think she could have got some lighter coloured shoes & gloves to wear with it and maybe a shorter string of pearls.

I'm going to post some old pics of Princess Anne before:

Anne's work with Save the Children UK and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers

Princess Anne's work with Save the Children and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers are probably most notable among her extensive charity work.
Her work, however, usually goes largely unnoticed.

I hope we can all find out more about Anne's work with these two patronages she is President of.

On February 11 The Princess Royal, President of Save the Children UK, will attend the Meetings and Incentive Travel Industry Awards 2008 at Novotel London West, One Shortlands, London W6.

That's odd! I went to the website for Save the Children and it's not there. I have always been very impressed with HRH The Princess Royale and her work with that organization. Several books on Royalty I have read in the 90's stated that she was the hardest working Royal in the UK at that time with an amazing amount of engagements. More than days in the year, at one time! I am wondering the reason why she doesn't get recognized more is she would probably tell the reporters to "naff off!" (Can I say that here? I know it doesn't really mean anything in the US.)

Naff Off is very tame here and perfectly acceptable in polite circles!

Thanks for the link, Sky! :flowers:
Wow! I knew that they helped children in other countries, like Africa, but I didn't know that they helped children in England as well!

Anne looked lovely at the Save the Children Festival of Trees. Why the black gloves, was she incorrectly briefed and thought she would be saving some trees.

Gloves are lovely. They keep one's hands clean and warm.

I thought HRH looked so Zara in Pic 1, Princess Magaret in 2, Queen Elizabeth I in 3, Queen Mary, Empress of India in 4 and Queen Mary's sisters-in-law in 5.

I like her dress--very Christmasey. And I think her pearls are lovely.

Thank you for the pictures, Anne looks great. The camera is rarely kind to Anne but in real life she is, IMO, a very attractive woman. :flowers:
