Yipee! This is great! I could be clairvoyant Kidding aside, I hope that Andre would get it. He's not only a legendary tennis player but also a humanitarian -- he would make a very good awardee. Also, if he wins, it would mean the return in Oviedo of a former Prince of Asturias awardee in his wife, Steffi Graff (1999). That would be very special

As for Pau Gasol... next year might be his turn. The Spanish team was amazing in the World Championship in Japan. Congratulations, Spain!

The selection of basketball gains Prince of Asturias of Sports
...
The failure of the jury indicates that “the important merit of the conquest of the Championship of the World in Japan, the page most shining of the history of the Spanish basketball, has supposed an overcoming example before the difficulties, of spirit of equipment, simplicity and commitment with the values of the sport”. It adds that “this extraordinary generation of players, led by Pau Gasol and under the technical manual of Jose Vicente “Pepu Hernandez”, it has transmitted to the world, and specially to the young people, one renewed illusion by the promotion and culture of the sport”.

Is this supposed to be an international sports award or does the winners has to have a connection to Spain? If it is an international award it is not very wise to choose their own two years in a row, it looks like the just is not objective. Cetainly there are many more outstanding sports careers to honor than the spanish basket ball team.

With me previously sensing a POA award for Agassi… I have to accept that the tiniest possibility of me being clairvoyant was just knocked off by a basketball

But kidding aside, I was thinking the same, Larzen. I was a little bit disappointed with the choice. Not that I don’t like the team because I watched their game on TV and they indeed played fantastic basketball in Japan. It’s just that I was thinking that for a change (especially from having Fernando Alonso last year), the jury might consider conferring it to someone who’s from outside of Spain – after all, the awards wants to reinforce its international image. Moreover, the other contenders had exhibited years and years of excellence in their respective sport, not just in one international tournament. I mean, it did not have to be Agassi as there were other great contenders too, but I’m afraid that the jury might have allowed themselves to get carried away with the excitement over the last few days.

Sariego will spend 42.000 Euros in improving its image before the visit of the Prince

Sariego will invert approximately 42.000 Euros in tidying the municipality with a view to the visit of the Prince of Asturias of next October 21 on the occasion of the delivery of the award to the Exemplary Village 2006. The mayor Javier Parajón counts on receiving some help of the regional Government for these reforms.

The Town hall has begun already to design the program of acts for this historical day, which will be determined to the observations that could raise the services of protocol of the Royal House.

The intention is to celebrate the institutional act in the Council, but the speeches declare and to discover the commemorative plate in the attached park. With posteriority, the procession will move to the field of municipal football, where the different associations of the council escenificarán traditions, trades craftsmen, dances or exhibitions of autochthonous sport. Later, an Asturian espicha will be celebrated, well in the polysport one or in a tent.

The program is completed by a visit of the Princes of Asturias by several nuclei of the council, though the itinerary is still for determining. It is, precisely, in the field of municipal football where a major economic investment is needed, as made clear yesterday the mayor.

It seems that the Prince has said that the girl is very little. She has been in Valencia and they have showed her often in Majorca and the girl was more young. So this there is no the one who understands it.

why would anyone want a 1 year old at a prize ceremony? She would most likely end up crying or upset in some way during the ceremony and would only be a distraction.
