Thanks for letting me know, Alexandria.. I know I will make sure to keep an eye on CBC..I share your sentiments, I am a bit surprised myself thatit is covered here in Canada considering that there is a higher percentage of Latin Americans in the US..but, hey I m not complaining.:)
BTW are you in Eastern Canada?'

i couldn't say about what american channel will cover the birth but in the case of princess mary nothing was said here and that pretty much is the same for all the other royal babies born. outside of prince charles & princess diana children we dont here about any other royals.

For whom was asking for the red carpet, I have just read that it seems that it is for the tent that the Royal Household is mounting for the press in the parking of the clinic.

I think the U.S. channels will only cover it when the baby is born...just like when Mary and Frederik's son was born.

Beate, I'm in Toronto -- or more accurately, Mississauga.

I'm not sure what the Canadian appeal is either in regards to these news stations carrying news of the birth. As far as I can remember no one from the Spanish royal family has visited Canada in the last couple of years, and neither Felipe and Letizia have since their engagement or their wedding to have developed a fan following of sorts.

I do think that aside from/without a personal connection (between Canada and Spain or the Prince and Princess of Asturias), there is a broader social and political connection that wasn't shared as much with the other royal countries who have experienced births lately (eg. Denmark and Belgium). Whether the Prince and Princess of Asturias have ever stepped foot on Canadian soil or not, they represent Spain and as a country and as a culture, I think that means a lot to Canadians.

Just my two cents to pass the time until the big moment! :p

The USA Spanish channel Univision has it as one of their headline stories for the nightly news.

I agree...I definitely think the reason that we here more (still only a tiny little bit) here in the U.S. about this birth and the wedding last year is because of the large Hispanic population in the U.S. I have heard how popular the Spanish Royal Family is among latinos, so I guess that's why.

I was thinking... this baby is going to be born on the eve of All Saints Day... Very appropriate, considering that the heir will be named "de Todos los Santos"...

It's now turning 5 hours, since they arrived at the clinic...

To change the succession law in Spain a chenge in the constitution is needed and that is a long and complex process. The goverment needs to be dissolved, the changs must go on a referedum to be approved by the people and only then the change is made. I think that the spanish goverment will made this at the time of the new general elections in Spain. In this way a dissolutions isnīt needed.
