Spain's Princess Letizia pregnant-palace

- Princess Letizia, the future Queen of Spain, is pregnant with her first child who will be born in November, the Royal Palace said on Sunday.

A glamorous former television presenter, Letizia Ortiz, 32, married Crown Prince Felipe, 37, on May 22 last year, and news of a pregnancy has been eagerly awaited in Spain.

"The Prince and Princess of Asturias are delighted to announce they are expecting the birth of their first child next November," the Palace said in a statement.

"Their Majesties the King and Queen wish to express their great happiness at this joyful announcement.

MADRID.- La Casa Real ha anunciado el embarazo de la Princesa de Asturias, que dará a luz en el mes de noviembre. El hijo de Felipe de Borbón y séptimo nieto de los Reyes de España será el futuro heredero de la Corona. El próximo día 22 la pareja, que ya ha expresado su 'gran alegría', celebra su primer aniversario de boda.

Casi un año después de su enlace, los Príncipes de Asturias anunciaron a través de un escrito su próxima paternidad. En la nota de la Casa Real, los Reyes, don Juan Carlos y doña Sofía, se sumaron a la felicidad de la pareja.

En las últimas semanas, los rumores de la maternidad de Letizia Ortiz habían cobrado cada vez más fuerza. Apenas unos meses después de contraer matrimonio el 22 de mayo de 2004, comenzaron a surgir las especulaciones sobre la posible gestación de Letizia Ortiz e incluso los Príncipe de Asturias tuvieron en alguna ocasión que desmentir personalmente la ansiada noticia.

Hoy, la Zarzuela ha puesto fin a estos rumores confirmando el embarazo de la Princesa de Asturias, que dará a luz "probablemente" en la misma clínica madrileña, el Rúber Internacional que la Infanta Elena, según un portavoz de la Casa del Rey. Letizia Ortiz tiene unos tres meses de embarazo, plazo que espera siempre la Casa Real para anunciar una gestación.

Este anuncio no va a alterar la agenda de los Príncipes de Asturias, que viajarán esta tarde desde Madrid a Palma de Mallorca para iniciar una visita oficial a Baleares hasta el viernes.

Los últimos actos públicos de los Príncipes de Asturias, antes del anuncio del embarazo de doña Letizia, tuvieron lugar el pasado viernes en Barcelona, donde, entre otras actividades, inauguraron el Salón del Automóvil.

En esta misma provincia se encuentra hoy, Don Juan Carlos que ha acudido al circuito de Montmeló, donde se disputa el GP de España de Fórmula 1. Desde allí ha hecho sus primeras declaraciones sobre este esperado embarazo en la Familia Real. El Rey se ha mostrado "muy contento" por este futuro nacimiento, una alegría que hace extensible a toda la familia. El primer hijo del Príncipe Felipe será segundo en la orden de sucesión. "Hay que tratarlo como uno más", señaló el monarca.

Niño o niña

El primer hijo de los Príncipes de Asturias recibirá nada más nacer el título de Infante o Infanta de España, según sea varón o mujer.

El primogénito de don Felipe y doña Letizia mantendrá, pues, esa condición mientras sus padres sean Príncipes de Asturias. Una vez se conviertan en Reyes la situación cambiará y heredará un título, el de XXXVI Príncipe o Princesa de Asturias, que va unido a la condición de heredero de la Corona española.

Pero con la actual redacción de la Constitución, esto último sólo se producirá en el caso de que el primer hijo de don Felipe y doña Letizia sea varón o, si es mujer, hasta que haya descendencia masculina. También ocurrirá así, si es hija única. En el supuesto de que sólo nacieran hijas, la mayor sería la heredera.

La Carta Magna subraya así la preferencia de ellos sobre ellas para la sucesión al Trono. Un precepto que el presidente del Gobierno, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero se ha comprometido a cambiar en la presente Legislatura, por lo que supone de discriminación hacia la mujer.

How exciting...i can't put it all in words but isn't it just fantastic that all the CP are expecting babies this year!!! It's really a baby boom year for the royal houses of Europe!!!

Now we can understand the tired look in her face lately - i had put it down to the stress and pressure frm the media, but it's just great to know that it was otherwise - or the special smile they hve for one another.

This is just too exciting...i'm sooooo happy for them!! I'm can't wait to see Mary and Letitiza as they progress into their pregancy and the choices of materity outfits they choose...then ofcourse the birth....ohhhhh...i'm going to cry!
