The Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbón, assured today that there will be more meetings with the new Portuguese president, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, after this first one, in the eve of swearing-in ceremony.

Don Felipe, who was received by Cavaco in the Palace of Queluz, after his arrival in Lisbon, said that 'as head of the Spanish delegation, he wanted to congratulate him for his electoral victory and to wish him much success as the leader of the Republic of Portugal'. After declaring that this was a private conversation of near 35 minutes, the Prince added that he also wanted 'to offer all the Spanish support as far as our bilateral relations, the work in the European Union and the international agendas are concerned. The Prince also added that previously he had paid a visit of courtesy to the salient president Jorge Sampaio, to ‘thank for his personally personal connection and his affection to the Royal Family’. With Sampaio, 'we talked about these years of Presidency and how Spain is contented for his efforts in tightening the bilateral relations’.

During these ten years of mandate, Sampaio maintained a very close relationshio with the Spanish monarch, who visited his personal residence in Lisbon and accepted the invitation to visit the archipelago of Açores, last Summer.

Sampaio accopanied the Prince of Asturias to the Pátio das Bicas of the Palace of Belém, where his car was parked and expressed his desire ton that he 'comes to Portugal more frequently’.

Portuguese diplomatic sources said to EFE that Spain will probably be the destiny of the first State Visit of the new president Cavaco Silva.

Tomorrow, the Princes of Asturias will represent Spain in the swearing-in ceremony in the Parliament.

Princes of Asturias attract mediatic interest in ceremony

The presence of Princes de Asturias in the taking of possession like president of Portugal de Aníbal Cavaco Silva, today monopolized good part of the Portuguese mediatic interest. The Princes, who will be transferred to the Palace of Queluz, to about 20 kilometers of Lisbon, to attend the banquet of State offered by Cavaco Silva to their guests, arrived half an hour at the seat of the Parliament before the ceremony.
When the princes acceded to the Palace of Sao Bento they separated to direct itself to the places anticipated by the protocol in the act of taking of possession of Cavaco Silva. The Prince did it in the tribune main of guests located to the left of the presidency of the Parliament, whereas Doña Letizia did it in the opposite side.

The Princess of Asturias, with suit of street of beige color and shoes to game, entered the chamber and occupied a place near ex- Portuguese president Mario Soares and his wife, Maria Barroso.

Anyway, Letizia was wearing a pink set of skirt and blouse and a beautiful pink over coat. She greated everybody in the tribune in a very warm and sympathetic way.:)

Before occupying his place in the tribune, the Prince chated with the ex-American president George Bush, who had received him a few years ago in the White House. According to diplomatic sources, the father of the US president congratulated the Prince for his marriage and recent paternity and asked him to express his best greetings to King Juan Carlos.

The Prince occupied a place next to Duke Henri of Luxembourg and near George Bush.
In the end of the ceremony, the Princes greeted Cavaco Silva, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Foreign Subjects, Alberto Navarro, and by the ambassador of Spain in Portugal, Enrique Panes.
