Though sure that there will be some critique because Spain is and certain politicians like that they cannot live without calling the attention, I believe that the speech of the Today Prince has been very good and very important. He has said what many people were hoping that he was saying, and what many people were hoping that the King had said. All the newscasters have emphasized the speech of the Prince, and I have read some articles of press that think the same thing. This one is the most important speech of the year for the Prince, and I believe that he has said what many Spanish in this moment were hoping that he was saying. I go many years seeing the ceremony and I believe that this year the Prince has taken to himself more plaudits that never, it shows of that the people agreed with his words.

Here's just an article (from Elmundo) echoing what Lula has stated:
http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2005/1...129916028.html The Prince of Asturias has defended the Constitution, during the prize-giving ceremony of the prizes that bear his name. These words arrive in the heat of debates on the approval of the Catalan Statute and the tricky fragment embroider of the same one in the Spanish Constitution. The applause of the audience has also interrupted the Prince, when he remembered that the "historical reconciliation" and the understanding between the Spaniards have only been possible thanks to "the use and the respect to the Constitution and the constitutional values". After the ceremony, the present authorities have warmly congratulated Felipe de Borbón for his words. |

I was shocked and also pleased to see that Antonio Damasio received this prize for his work in neurology -- I know him. This really brings the whole Awards ceremony very close to home!

He had a full agenda with personalities although Princess Letizia will not attend the ceremonies due to her pregnancy. The Prince inaugurated an outdoors sculpture exposition, walked the streets to be greeted by the people.

Oh Gosh... Tonight I was sleeping and all of a sudden I woke up. And do you know what was my dream about? I was dreaming about me, reading "El mundo" and "iHola!" in the internet and there it was written that the Princess has already given birth to a little GIRL! :) I couldn't fall asleep again and I wanted to check it, but at the moment my computer is in my parents's bedroom! So today I turned on computer and what? The baby (maybe girl, although I still think it is a boy) is still in his/her mummy's belly! |

Yesterday in the receipt that existed after the Prizes someone raised the rumor of which Letizia had been deposited again. For what they say the newspapers the people were looking for the father of the Princess to ask him until someone of the Royal House said that it was a lie .... so imagine how the journalists are. But everything is calm, enclosed according to the agenda the Royal House Letizia will come on Monday to a dinner in Madrid. |

As it happened last year, there was a great ovation at the mention to Doña Letizia, who was not at the theatre, but finally her thanks were listened by the words that the Prince pronounced in her name and from the bottom of her heart. After the first years in which the Kings accompanied their son, the Prince ended up assuming alone the prize-giving ceremony. There were years when Don Felipe was growing together with the importance of the awards. By Oviedo there have been personalities like Yasser Arafat, Arthur Miller, Miguel Delibes, Carlo Maria Martini, Hussein of Jordan, Woody Allen and many other; more than two hundred personalities and organizations that have clearly marked the social thought of the Prince. After the ceremony of the last year, the first one that Doña Letizia shared with Don Felipe, it was awkward to see yesterday again the Prince alone in the scene of the Campoamor. The Queen, as always, occupied one of the boxes of the theatre, specially moved with the arrival of the dancers Mayan Plisetskaya and Tamara Rojo, who agreed for the first time in a scene, and with the one of the Daughters of Charity. Outside, on the street, the Asturian people and visitors specially cheered the world champion of F1, Fernando Alonso, and a surrealist detail took place, when the people who were accompanied the pilot made it difficult to obtain photographs of the champion, at his arrival to the reception that the Prince offered in the morning. The reason was that Alonso, who, like the rest of the awarded personalities, was transported in Audi, has a contract with Renault that prevents him to use and to appear him in public with any vehicle of another label. Material subjects that contrasted with the intellectual and social commitment of Simone Veil, the inconformism of the Italian writer Giovanni Sartori, able to attack the very own Pope, and with the simplicity of the nuns of Vicente Paul, authentic champions in the distribution of breads, faith and hope, and whose humility even prevented them to take part in the family photo of the Prince with the awarded personalities. And it was the sisters who firstly moved Don Felipe, when commenting to him that they have prayed for Doña Letizia and the chil that is on the way, but mainly because they were the only ones, among all the awarded personalities, that destined the 50000 euros of the prize to solidarity causes. All the awarded ones had words in memory of Doña Letizia, and it could not lack a reference in Don Felipe’s speech, to the special moments that the couple in living. The words of the future father equally shared feeling, knowledge and reason, the three ingredients that, according to Prof. Antonio Damasio, another one of the awarded personalities, must be mixed in equal parts, in the cocktail of life. |
