The Princes of Asturias celebrated yesterday the Annual Meeting of the Patronage of the Prince of Asturias’ Foundation, on its XXV anniversary.

Princess Letizia, who already shines her pregnancy, was dressed in a cream suit with fuchsia shoes and her glowing appearance raised more than an expression of congratulations, from the assistants.

It is the second time that the princess attends this event, whose first appearance took place just one year ago. Once surpassed the normal annoyances of the first trimester, Doña Letizia still accompanies her husband to the acts he presides over, as the future sovereign, although she’s already entered in the fourth pregnancy month. She surely did not want to miss these prizes, since they are granted in Asturias, the Land where Doña Letizia was born, and whose affection to the Royal Family was already expressed in so many different occasions.

The Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer accepted the order to project the Museum and Cultural Centre of the Prizes Prince of Asturias.

Niemeyer, of 97 years old, is one of the most prominent figures of the modern architecture, and he considered the projec to be an honour, specially because it will be his first work in Spain.

The construction of the Museum and Cultural Centre of the Prizes Prince of Asturias is planned within the celebrations of the XXV anniversary of these awards, which are now among the most important in the world.
The General responsible for the commission in charge of the XXV Anniversary celebrations, Natalio Grueso, said to EFE that Niemeyer was chosen because of his world-wide importance and because he is one of the three architects who were awarded with the Prince of Asturias' award.

According to the general commissioner, the architects who work with Niemeyer will travel to Asturias during the next couple of weeks, to choose the place where the Museum and Cultural Centre shall be constructed.

Famous for the governmental palaces of Brasilia (the Brazilian capital), Niemeyer have made works in several parts of the world. In 1947, along with LeCorbusier, he formed part of the team that projected the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.

The commemorations of the XXV anniversary since the creation of the Prizes Prince of Asturias will extend throughout 2005, until October of the next year. Before the anniversary, UNESCO, which is supporting the commemorations, has already decided to recognize 'the exceptional contribution of the Prizes Prince of Asturias to the Cultural Patrimony of the Humankind'.

From La Nueva España:

Models of Paris

Twenty-one "meninas" created by the painter and Valencian escultor Manolo Valdés "walk" their bronze these days by the Garden du Palais Royal (Real Palace) of Paris. In October, that same exhibition of monumental figures will be in the stroll of the Poplars and the seat of the Escandalera, of the hand of Cajastur, that celebrates thus his 125.º anniversary and contributes, at the same time, to the commemorative acts of the 25 years of the Foundation Prince of Asturias. It is predicted that the sample of Oviedo inaugurates Princes de Asturias.

From La Nueva España:

Barenboim, Abdalá of Jordan, Lula, Lopez Cobos and Guiddens, between the guests

The pianista and conductor Daniel Barenboim and his orchestra of Jewish and Palestinian musicians; king Abdalá of Jordan; the president of Brazil, Luis Inazio gives Silva, "Lula"; Jesus Lopez Cobos and the Orfeón Donostiarra, and sociologist Anthony Guiddens - whom a debate on the future of the democracy will direct -: these will be the protagonists of some of the acts that will be developed in the next months in Asturias. In July, the Principality will present/display in the Universal Exhibition of Aichi (Japan) the exhibition that took to Fitur on the twenty-five years of history of the Foundation, a sample that will also travel to New York and Brazil. The act will be supported next to others by the cultural institution. The delivery of the awards, the next month of October, will agree with the inauguration of the exhibition on the history of the prizes, and before the year finalizes is celebrated a tribute to the great figures of century XX, represented by its descendants. Between the events anticipated for 2006, they emphasize the world-wide encounter of poets, that will agree with the celebration of the "world-wide Day of the poetry" declared by UNESCO; the exhibition of the artists awarded with the "Prince"; the congress of directors of Erasmus, and a concert of Rostropovich.

The Princes of Asturias will be present at Barenboim's concert in Oviedo

The Princes of Asturias will be in Oviedo next July 31 to be present at Daniel Barenboim's concert with his orchestra for the peace. The musician will celebrate this way 25 years of the Foundation Prince of Asturias, who him distinguished together with Edward Said with the Prize of the Concord. " It will be a very special occasion ", assured yesterday the Jewish director in Madrid, where he presented his tour along four Spanish cities. Barenboim remembered that the award that he shared with his deceased Palestinian friend was " a very deep recognition of the labor that had turned for him and for me in the most important work of our lives ".

Daniel Baremboim received the Prize Prince of Asturias of the Concord in the year 2002, together with him(, was rewarded his friend Edward Said who has died does little. This concert is an act of the Anniversary XXV of the Prizes, a Concert for the Peace and in Honoring to Said.
As for the assistance of the Princes it is not not official at all, it will be necessary to wait to know it definitively, because also it was said that probably they would come to the meeting with Woody Allen but finally they did not come.

It can be a bit early, but do you know, when the ceremony of the Prince of Asturias Awards will take place? The last time it was in late October, but I think that the pregnancy of the Princess will be very advanced, so it could be earlier, maybe in September. It will be 25. anniversary of the Prizes, so her appearance in it will be sertainly very importand.

Not, I do not believe that it changes of date, it will be I believe that on the 21st, and I imagine that the Príncesa will be if she is good, because by then she will be of 8 months. Though I imagine that only she will go to the delivery of prizes and not to the rest of acts.
Esimposible that is in other dates. Still they stay for giving some prizes, and the jurors get together in September. Besides in September they are the holidays of Oviedo and it cannot coincide. The weekend of October 14 is the Summit of Latin-American Chiefs of State. So they do not have many dates

According to a study ordered by the FPA, 85% of the Spaniards consider that these awards "are very important for the country" and that "they have obtained a great international recognition and prestige".

The conclusions of this study are revealed in the year when the Prince of Asturias Foundation celebrates the XXV anniversary of its awards, under the auspices of UNESCO.
