Great pictures everyone! I thought that Letizia looked wonderful at the awards. The black dress with the fitted pink(? -- or was it cream?) was simple and elegant.
Letizia really is the poster girl for simple elegance. No bows and yards of lace and satin for the Princess of Asturias. Rather something well cut, tailored and mutli-purpose. |

I love the pink jacket and black dress ensemble that Letizia wore. It's such a beautiful cut and fits Letizia wonderfully.
I agree with Alexandria, Letizia really is a poster-girl for minimalist yet elegant attires.

Jesus Ortiz, Princess Letizia's father, and his wife, Ana Togores, attended a conference given by the Prince of Asturias Foundation president, Graciano Garcia. The event took place on May 17th in the XXI Club of Madrid. It was a celebration for the 25 years of the Prince of Asturias Foundation, that was created in 1980 with the Spanish Royal Family Support.

The Brazilian writer Nélida Piñon, who "has been acclaimed by the critics as the most outstanding voice of today's Brazilian Literature", won the Prince of Asturias Award of Literature 2005. Piñon, who already counts with many literary prizes and university awards, was chosen among 31 candidacies, coming from Canada, the United States, Holland, Hungary, India, Israel, Kuwait, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, United Kingdom, Sweden and Spain. Her first literary consecration arrived in 1961, with the novel Guia Mapa de Gabriel Arcanjo, which was followed by works like Tempo das frutas (1966), Fundador (1969) or A Casa da Paixão (1972), among others. http://www.reuters.es/locales/c_news...toryID=8861247 http://www.fuerteventuradigital.com/...22&hora=125640 The Portuguese neurologist António Damásio won the Prize Prince of Asturias of Scientific and Technical Investigation. Damásio, of 61 years old, is one of the most well-known Portuguese investigators, specialized in the study of the neurology of emotions and cerebral cartography. His work has been centred in the investigation of decisive problems in the basic neuroscience, and also on diseases like Parkinson and Alzheimer. According to the jury, Damásio is recognized as one of the most important scientists, "whose contribution is essential for the knowledge of the mechanisms of the brain" and whose divulging work facilitates "the access of ample branches of society to one better understanding of the human conduct". All these ingredients make possible that the work of Damásio enjoys "an extraordinary prestige among the international scientific community", and the best-seller Décartes' Error is world-wide considered a fundamental text in this area of studies. This is the fifth award already announced to the fifth edition of the Prizes Prince of Asturias that will take place in October. Until now, there were announced the names of Simone Veil (International Cooperation), the great European cultural institutes (Communication and Humanities), Nélida Piñon (Letters), Giovanni Sartori (Social Sciences) and António Damásio (Scientific and Technical Investigation).
