Christening of Infanta Leonor: January 14, 2006

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I have a question about Leonor's baptism. Generally the Spanish baptisms are very family oriented gatherings. There isn't a parade of foreign royals like Pavlos and Marie Chantal had for all of their children. Elena and Cristina had their in laws present and their Greek cousins (mostly Alexia) and the Bulgarian royals occasionally.

Will the circumstances be different in Leonor's case because she might be queen one day? Who could we possibly expect if there will be foreign guests invited?

Denmark vs Spain??? ha ha ha

What I found very funny, is the synchronization between the Danish and Spanish CP couples.

They announced their wedding with 2 weeks difference (October 14th, November 1st)

They married with one week difference (May 14, May 22nd)

They announced pregnancy with 2 weeks difference (April 25th, May 8th)

They had a baby with 2 weeks difference (October 14th, October 31st)

Both couples had their baby, exactly 2 years after their engagement announcement

And now they Christen with 1 week difference (Jan 14th, Jan 21st) !!! At is the first time that Spain preceeds Denmark :D

All these evens are not simple coincidences??? or signes for a commun destiny:confused:

HAPPINESS to both of them

Just fifteen days left to the baptism of Infanta Doña Leonor at the Palace of La Zarzuela and the family of the Princess of Asturias has already ordered the outfits, so that everything gets ready with time.

A few days ago, Paloma Rocasolano and the maternal grandparents of Doña Letizia went to the store of Felipe Varela in Madrid, which means that (as it happened the day of the wedding of the Princes) Varela will once again be in charge of dressing the family of the Princess, who has become his main client, since most of the wardrobe she uses for official acts is signed by this designer. It’s still unknown, however if Doña Letizia will also pick Varela this time or if she will return to Lorenzo Caprile, who usually dresses her for celebrations.

Before opening this thread on Saturday, we really would like to take a moment and ask our dear members to refrain the "photo-posting frenzy" and check first if the pictures you're gonna post weren't already posted with less or no watermarks.

This will make our job easier and will avoid the clogging of the thread with repeated pictures, making it easier for navigation.

thanks a lot for your consideration regarding this matter,

The baptismal sink of Santo Domingo returns to The Zarzuela 38 years later

The historical relic already has been moved from the Monastery of Santo Domingo, placed in the street Claudio Coello of Madrid, to the residence of the Royal Family, where ultiman the preparations for the baptism of the Infanta Dona Leonor next Saturday

ALMUDENA MARTÍNEZ-FORNÉS

MADRID. The historical sink
in the one that was baptized in the year 1170 Guzmán's Santo Domingo has been moved at the beginning of this week to the Palace of The Zarzuela, where next Saturday it will be used in order that the first-born one of the Princes of Asturias, the Infanta Dona Leonor, receives the sacrament of the baptism.
Of this form, the sink has returned to the residence of the Royal Family 38 years after its last movement to The Zarzuela, on the occasion of the baptism of Don Felipe, who was celebrated on February 8, 1968, when the third son of Their Majesties the Kings was counting with nine days of life.
From that day the sink has not returned to be in use in any baptism, since its use is reserved to the Princes and Infantes of Spain. For it, the first six grandsons of the Kings - children of the Dukes of Lugo and the Dukes of Palm of Majorca - have received the baptismal waters in another sink, in make concrete, a piece of the XIXth century proceeding from the Royal Palace.
This one has been the fourth time that the sink of Santo Domingo has been taken to the Palace of the Zarzuela from the Monastery of Santo Domingo el Real, placed in the number 112 of the street Claudio Coello of Madrid , where the mothers Dominicans guard this valued relic, which - except these days, which one finds temporarily in Zarzuela - can be visited by the public.
In this sink there have received the baptismal waters almost all the Inheritors of the Wreath for four centuries. The tradition began in times of Felipe III, who in 1605 ordered to move the sink to Valladolid for the baptism of hisson Felipe IV. Till then, the piece had remained in the parochial church of Caleruega's villa (Burgos), where Domingo de Guzmán had been baptized, though when thirteen years after his death, in 1221 in Bologna, the Pope Gregorio IX declares him A Saint, the sink starts being venerated as relic.

Two days for the baptism of Leonor

Doña Leonor The one that someday will become Queen of Spain will be baptized to 12: 30 of Saturday in the dependencies of the Zarzuela before a reduced group of guests formed by the nearest relatives and high personalities of the State.
The access of mass media to the cover of the event by space problems has been restricted extraordinarily. It will not be in the chapel, but in the lobby qualified to the effect.
If there are no new features, will be Rouco Varela who administers the sacrament. The images and the photos of the event will distribute to the TVE and agency to them EFE.
Against the expectations, there will be no live broadcasting. The ceremony will be "sober and familiar".

We were already expecting that the ceremony would be kept as strictly familiar. Anyway, TVE International will surely have a special edition of "Corazon de Invierno" (at 14.30) and the newscast at 15h00.

Doña Leonor will be baptized tomorrow with the representatives of the high institutions of the State

Symbol of the importance of the ceremony is the fact the act is celebrated in the presence of the high institutions of the State, whose representatives have been invited to the baptism. Thus, except for unforeseen expenses, will tomorrow go to the Palace of the Zarzuela the presidents of the Congress, Manuel Marín; of the Senate, Red Javier; of the Constitutional Court, Maria Emilia Bahamonde Houses; of the Supreme Court, Francisco Jose Hernando, and of the Community of Madrid, Hope Aguirre.
Representatives of high institutions of State will add to guests habitual in baptisms of grandsons of Kings, between that they are the president of the Government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and his wife, Sonsoles Espinosa and the medical equipment to us that took care of Princess de Asturias during the pregnancy and the childbirth, headed by doctor Luis Ignacio Recaséns.

Infanta Leonor, the daughter of the Princes of Asturias and second in line to the succession to the Throne, will be baptized this Saturday in the Palace of La Zarzuela.
Unlike her father, who received the names of Felipe, Juan, Pablo and Alfonso de Todos los Santos, the Infanta will be named simply Leonor, because so have decided the Princes of Asturias. By now, the only doubt is if the infanta, fulfilling tradition, will also be named Leonor de Todos los Santos (i.e. of All Saints).

The baptism, which will be attended by the representatives of the highest institutions of the country, will take place privately in one of the halls of the residence of Their Majesties, due to the reduced dimensions of the Palace’s chapel, where the other six grandchildren of the Kings have been baptized.

The ceremony shall be attended by the president of the Government, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and the minister of Justice, along with the presidents of the Congress of Deputies, of the Senate, of the Constitutional Court, of the Supreme Court, of the Community of Madrid and the mayor of Madrid. All of them will be able to attend it with their respective spouses. Besides, the Royal House has sent invitations to the closest paternal and maternal relatives, as well as the medical team of the Ruber Clinic that took care of Doña Letizia Ortiz, during her pregnancy and childbirth.

In addition to the guests, a very reduced group of journalists will be present. The Royal House has authorized a photographer from EFE, who will distribute the photos to the rest of media, just like TVE will distribute the images to the rest of TV chainnels. With them, a select group of journalists will enter the Palace.

The religious ceremony will be concelebrated by the archbishop of Madrid, Antonio Maria Rouco Varela, and the military archbishop, Francisco Perez González. It is possible that they will be accompanied by the father in charge of the religious services in the Palace of Ls Zarzuela, Serafín Sedano Gutiérrez.

The flowers have been grouped in arrangements with 1.50 and 90 centimetres height, according to the requests expressed by the Royal House.

Leonor will be baptized in the sink of Guzmán's Santo Domingo

The Infanta Leonor will be baptized in the Palace of the Zarzuela, in a ceremony in which there will be in use the sink of the XIIth century of Guzmán's Santo Domingo, saved for princes and Infantes.

The sink, of white stone and adornments of silver and considered a jewel of the Romanesque one, was used by the first time in a royal baptism in the XVIIth century, with the son of Philip III, who would reign as Philip IV of the House of Austria, and, therefore, before the arrival to the Spanish Throne of Borbón's House.
The Inheritor of the Wreath, the Prince of Asturias, and his sisters, the Infantas Elenas and Cristina, also received the waters of the baptism in this sink with golden adornments that represent the royal weapon and the shields of the order of the Dominicans, and that guards in the Monastery of Santo Domingo the Royal, in Madrid.
...

Since it is a tradition in the Spanish Royal Family, on the head of the first-born one of the Princes of Asturias water of the river will spill Jordan, brought to Spain from Holy Land for so historical occasion.
Last October 17, the Franciscan friar Ovidio Dueñas delivered several packings with water of the Jordan to the Consul General of Spain in Jerusalem and in the Palestinian territories, Jose Maria Ferré, who them sent immediately to Spain, to the Royal House.

Not, I do not believe that there are photos of this food. What I have read, is that first a coctail will be served for all the guests, and later the most next family will come to a luncheon in house of the Princes.;)

I'm sure our members will be posting whatever pics and videos are available as soon as they are able to.

Please be patient. :)

thanks,
