The 2005 UN World Summit dinner is tonight. Around 175 world leaders will be in attendance. The summit starts tomorrow and is being called the biggest gathering of world leaders in history.
I guess that makes it THE place to be seen and heard.

A handful of Jewish day school students was among 20 area teens of varied faiths who met with Jordan's King Abdullah Tuesday.

The Mideast monarch brought a simple but challenging message, said Silver Spring's David Rubinstein, 16.

"If we improve the relationships between youth of different religious groups, then, as opposed to judging a religion by stereotypes, we'll be judging it by people we know," said Rubinstein, restating the king's argument.

The youth, the treasurer of student affairs at the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy, joined four other student leaders from the Rockville school at Tuesday's half-hour meeting. Also at the meeting were teens from the Saudi Academy of Alexandria, Francis L. Cardoza High School in the District and Benjamin Banneker High School, which hosted the gathering.

In unambiguous words that some Western religious leaders say are often sorely absent when Muslim leaders speak in public, Jordan's King Abdullah II this week told more than 350 people - some wearing kippot, others in turbans, and a good number with Catholic collars - that all religions, but particularly Islam, must promote moderation and tolerance.

"Moral leadership cannot be hijacked," the monarch said at the Catholic University of America at a Sept. 13 gathering sponsored by the school's Interdisciplinary Program in Law and Religion. "Today, traditional, moderate, orthodox Muslims are reclaiming our Islam - Islam as it has been taught and practiced for over a thousand years: a religion of tolerance, peace and charity

King Abdullah was on the Today Show this morning. They showed some photos from the visit with the Pope and also footage from KA and QR's meeting with students in Washington.
I've got some screen caps from the interview. Sorry about the grainy images, I wasn't getting the clearest reception on the NBC channel.
